Cinquecento My '93 1.4 16v Cinquecento

Introduction

Hi everyone,

After best part of ten years with various Italian cars, I'm now back where I started.... with a Cinq!!

I bough it already converted to 1242 16v power but it will be undergoing a lot of work to improve and tidy bits here and there.

Since buying it I've swapped the K&N for a CDA, I've re-fitted the orange front indicators and flushed the coolant and fitted a cleaner expansion tank. Alternator belt changed, that's fun with the engine mount being so close! Major service coming soon as well.

Please excuse the crappy pictures, my phone is rubbish!!

Rear window is tinted, that will be coming off:

Has a 1.6 16v Bravo TB, RR'd at 89bhp:

With my standard Seicento Sporting:

Lots of stuff on the to do list including fitting Spax kit (ordered), move the battery back in to the engine bay, moving ECU to other side of engine bay, polybush nearly everything I can buy a polybush for, put rear seats back in, upper and lower strut bar and fit Uno turbo calipers! Should keep me busy!

Lots more little jobs need doing, car has been keyed so that needs doing as well. I might upgrade to a 1.4 at some point but I won't get too carried away yet!

Overall though it's a cracking little car, so much fun and once I've sorted a few bits (mainly the brakes and the suspension!!) it should be fantastic.

It's worth a try although with a 1.4 in it might light up its tyres a bit too easily?

 hehe

The plan is to run on Yoko A048 tyres and ultimately go for a Quaife ATB so that should provide enough grip. At a guess, my Revos aren't ET45, something lower. Will trial fit this weekend and post some pics.

Hey Duncan,

Good to see you back in a Cinq. I remember going to Glasgow years ago in your old Imola Blue that Jamie86 bought, to do an exchange deal to bring back the Sei Turbo from Donna, which now resides with Chris(Blu). It was a busy 2 days.

We've still got one that's not been used in ages, but may have to resurrect it this year seeing as I got a new helmet for Christmas and need a reason to wear it, and getting the Cinq on track seems reason enough.

Hello Aaron, hope you are all ok mate? Still got the 'grale I hope!

It is nice to be back in a Cinq, sort of an early midlife crisis for me I think! Mine is now destined to slowly become more track focused and I intend to get to Bedford Autodrome at some point this year.

Our (her) new 100HP! Great car, really like it and really fun but it looks massive next to the Cinq! Can't believe people fit 15s on Centos they look huuuuge compared to my 13s!

Went to the Autosport show on Sunday and decided I need these in my life:

13x7 Team Dynamics ET23, Caterhams run them but TD will do them in 4x98. The pic doesn't show it but the spokes are quite concave and they look sweeeeet. Very light as well and caliper clearance should be good. Not had a chance to see if my Revolutions fit over 257mm brakes as I have done my back in, so no fiddling with the car for a while!

Doing it for cosmetic reason is pretty daft (mind you, you could say the same for 7J 13" wheels) :). But it's the only cost effective way of raising the gearing on a 1.4 16v or a turbo. Some of the Poles were doing it 10 years or so ago.

Wasn't saying it was good or bad, just that from the pic it looks like they would be way too big.

Looking good. Try the revos over the brakes mine seemed to just about fit iirc on an initial fit upworth a try

Had a go and...

Just about fits! The clearance over the wheel balancing weights is about 0.5mm! Span the wheel lots and didn't catch or scrape. If the caliper wasn't all rusty and cruddy it would clear a bit better. This is with a 5mm spacer btw.

Also tried the standard steelies, no way are they fitting!

Yes still have the integrale, and a fairly rare RenaultSport Megane DCi175 for my daily 90 mile commute to Birmingham Airport, they olny sold about 390 in a short production run at end of the MK2 Meganes lifecycle. So shares all parts with the petrol models of Brembo's, PerfoHub front suspension set up etc but has a Nissan 2L diesel with 173bhp and 267lb ft standard. For a diesel it goes well and likes to rev! Also have a 5door manual MK5 Golf R32 for Emma/family car duties plus of course the Cinquecento.

I did a track day at Bedford last year in Jamie's MX5. Was a good venue with plenty run off and lots of twists and turns that can be enjoyed with low power in the likes of a Cento or Jamie's old 1.6 100hp Mazda.

I see the subject of 15" wheels has come up again and it should be noted that the default 185/50/14 tyres that many run are only 5mm smaller (541 Vs 546) in diameter than a 165/50/15 that we run, and Bridgestone RE040's as fitted to Lotus Elise iirc are only about £50 each fitted. Plus you can get Toyo R888's in that size whereas the only 888's in 13 to fit a Cento are 175/60/13 which are 6mm smaller but being a 60 profile would need to be fitted to a narrow wheel of maybe 5" so in fact has a smaller contact patch than the 165/50/15. Next sizes are too big at 205/60/13, or 185/55/14 is possible but its 13mm bigger than a 165/50/15.

Plus I like how it looks (excuss the thread hijack, but been a while since I posted anything about our car)
