Stilo My 1.2 Stilo

Introduction

My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

Here's the life of my car so far in pictures, I just want to see how much I can repair/modify the car by myself before it dies.
And for as cheap as possible for some bits.

Here she is before I bought her

After a while I got a cat back exhaust made by powerflow

Then my intake melted so I got a K&N pod filter

Then I bought a set of alloys from a guy on here
20130303_151155.jpg

Then there was too much of a gap in the wheel arches so I got some lowering springs and shocks

Then the Mrs cleaned her and I fitted a debadged grille

The engine started to splutter, bet you cant guess which cylinder had the problem

Here's a little thing, wind deflectors. Their great when it rains

Then I changed out the old clocks for the one with the nice big screen

Next is a bit of a bigger project, the 1.2 Turbo Stilo

So I start cleaning it up a bit

Here I'm changing out the spring to try to get the wastegate to run at around 5 psi

And that's about as far as I got with the turbo other than getting everything sorted for the oil line. I got an adaptor for the oil pressure sensor to also feed oil to the turbo and got some steel braided cable for it.
For the outlet I still need to find a spot in the sump for the return. I still haven't decided weather or not to get a decompression plate yet for such little boost.

Then I got bored and put some brightness adjustable lights for the foot wells. The head unit is something I got a while ago, ordered it from china and I love it for the gps mainly but its also got a dvd player/freeview (rarely used), mp3 player from sd card, tyre pressure display, radio, bluetooth, I've also got a rear view camera connected to it

That's it so far. Any suggestions for what to do next would be great.
I love this car and cant leave it alone, next I'm thinking a matte black paint job :slayer:
Hey, it's looking nice, I like what you've done so far. Where'd you get the footwell lights? I want to put them in my punto and try to wire it to the door light.

Thanks mate, I got those lights from Maplin, they come with a plug for a cigarette lighter but I cut that off and wired it into one of the lights that comes on when the doors are open or when you switch on the interior lights

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

Thanks pal, its been about a year and a half I think. Never really had any major problems with it yet...

Ha ha you need to fit a MultiJet Turbo Diesel engine to it!!

Looks fantastic

Good to see another Stilo being looked after

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

Ha yeah I wouldnt mind a nice engine in it but thats going to have to wait till this engines bottom end explodes because its started to crack, its been welded though so should last a few more days at least. Ive just had a front bumper delivered from a 3 door stilo so im going to get it painted and see if I can get it on securely

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

I always liked the look of the front bumper from the 3 door stilo so I ordered one.
but it was blue so now was a good time to try the plasti dip

Here it is after the first coat (it was windy that's why it looks patchy (y))

And the final coat

I'm really happy with this stuff, gives a really smooth finish with hardly any prep work.

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

I haven't tried fitting it yet, I know they're a different shape but I seen someone (i think on here) had fit it on a 5 door from one of their pictures so I wanted to try.

If the weather isn't too bad tomorrow then thats when ill be giving it a go and I can see what needs to be changed so it fits

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

So I've finished having a mess about with the bumper today and I've got a few pictures for everyone

Well it went on perfectly, it didn't need any modifications at all and everything lines up just like the old one (y)

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

The lines just below the headlights don't line up...but why don't you just go for a complete 3-door front end change? The bonnets are shared between the two so it would only be the headlights and wings you'd need, that would really set the 5-door off ;)

How's your turbo conversion coming along? I'm looking into doing the same soon but using the Bravo Tjet engine as a starting point

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

I never thought about changing the panels around the bumper, that's something I'm going to have a look into. For the lights though I'd love a set of angel eyes so I'm undecided what I'm going to do there, already got a pair of HID's in.

As for the turbo the spring I put in the wastegate turned out to be just over 10psi so I'm going to have to get another one for around 5psi.

I'm still debating whether or not to make the exhaust manifold myself or go to powerflow again.

I plan on running the turbo on pretty much stock everything to start apart from uprated fuel injectors but I will be getting a positive pressure map sensor, wideband, boost gauge and a few other bits but its going to take a while due to cost, mainly for the manifold

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

There's a set of angel eyes available for the Stilo but are designed for right-hand drive so are illegal in the UK :( someone did modify a set to work legally here but it's a lot of work.

Sounds good on the turbo front, what do you expect HP wise in the end? Try a scrappy for a Tjet exhaust manifold, they are bolt-on with the NA engines :)

Do you think the gearbox will handle the torque? What I eventually plan to do is bump the front subframe off a Bravo Tjet and bolt it straight on in place of my Stilos subframe. That way the wishbones, suspension, brakes and driveshaft carriers can be swapped straight over from the Tjet Bravo as well, the Tjet gearbox can drop in and, from your perspective, can be bolted to your 1.2 along with a Tjet clutch and flywheel, and with Tjet hubs already in place, drive to the wheels is not an issue :)

the front end changes were all the rage with marea fronts onto bravos, about 7 years ago ( i use to run 2.0 20v marea estates) alot of the chaps with bravos were changing the wings and bumper from a marea, as the marea had the same front end as the bravo hgt, infact i sold a complete marea front of my silver wagon when the engine seized to a guy for his bravo....

the full 3 door front end on a 5 door would be awesome and not much work to be honest

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

Yeah I seen a guy on here who modified the punto angel eyes, I was thinking of doing the same.

You are awesome, I didn't realise the bravo manifold had the same stud pattern (thought it was only the punto mk2). I've just bought a bravo manifold off ebay for £20 so ill see what I can do to get the exhaust inlet flange on the turbo to line up with the bolts on the manifold.

Not sure what to expect for extra HP because the turbo is pretty small (but zero turbo lag :D) as for the gearbox, I'm not giving it the option to fail lol.

Nice idea and good luck with swapping everything over, I might steal some of your ideas as I was looking into a big brake conversion but if everything can be swapped out then why not.

Also does anyone know if coilovers for the punto or bravo fit the stilo, front shocks really need changing but I fancy some adjustable coilovers. Reason is the stilo coilovers are usually real expensive.

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

What turbo is you've got? Is it one off a Tjet like VL36 or VL37? These should bolt straight on to the manifold you have just bought. Stud patterns on the head were different on the mk1 punto 1.2 FIRE but later mk2 (which the Stilo 1.2 shares) had a different stud pattern, which the newer Tjet lumps are based on and have adopted. Go to the New Bravo section of the forum and download their eLearn, it's good info for Tjet especially considering you are turbo'ing a similar engine.

As for coilovers they are quite expensive (£400 up) but FK seem to sell the cheapest out there but not sure on quality. Perhaps second hand units if you can find them?

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

Its the vl20 I have and thanks for the info ill have a look at the bravo section see what I can find out there aswell
