Panda (Classic) Snatch Panda

Introduction

It's taken a while but I'm going to try uploading some photos..

Inspired by Snatch Land Rovers deployed to Gulf War I, Afghanistan and previously in Northern Ireland, I wondered how the Panda version might have turned out..

Dragonman gave me a useful kick early on and David, Aquamarine has been wonderfully helpful throughout -thank you both.

Things got a bit loose with the interpretation as I got carried away - so the mudflaps aren't necessary (but I like how rally cars look) and the bonnet lamps are because of a soft spot for the Matra Rancho. - Please be reassured that only a rusty bonnet was harmed in the making of this modification.

Similarly - all the changes can be undone fairly easily if Sisley prices continue to head for the stratosphere.. So I didn't paint the grill and I have kept a good unmodified bullbar to one side.

Hope you like it. Let me know what you think.
Does anyone else have this -

-One tiny and simple car needs a whole heap of keys to access and make it work?

And while we're on "Unlikely Top Trumps Categories That a Panda May Do Quite Well in Though Probably Wouldn't Win" - I discovered yesterday that Snatch can accelerate through 90 mph without changing gear.. Dear Norris, is this a record?

For Pandas.

Snatch can accelerate through 90 mph without changing gear..

I'm down to 1x oval key + fuel cap key on both cars, still can downgrade to just one key.

One day me think ' I don't need 16v' next day I see Mr.H pushing the limits and setting the bar at 90mph in one gear.

MADNESS

You can do 90 in 1st?!
.. or do you pull away in 4th or something?

I must try that - I think max in 1st is probably closer to 9 but it does accelerate cleanly in 5th from 12mph.

"MADNESS" as kolza says. - 16v torque means not needing to change gear very much, meaning longer life for the syncros. Who knew a daft engine would be kinder than the standard one, to your gearbox.

The ST has 3 keys which fit all locks so only have one on our main key ring. With the Sisley i believe Cameron bought a lock kit from Italy so have two blue keys and a red key similar to the late 90's fiat keys. All keys fit all locks.

I've actually yet to own a panda where more than one key is needed!

I've had FIVE keys needed on at least 2 cars, ignition, passenger and drivers door, boot and fuel cap.
I think it was LVJ and maybe the don's 4x4, though I remember changing some locks as it gets very annoying constantly trying to find the right key.
Oh do immobiliser keys count?

Four here - ignition, both doors, boot and fuel cap. Plus additional metal for showing off with. I did intend to paint that green as well but I like it as it is.

I have a weird compulsion/superstition where my keyring has to match the car specifically. Don't judge me! That's probably why the BX is broken, I haven't got round to that yet.

No judgement here, I've dabbled with the same weird compulsion:

No time left to fix the BX after all those key rings have been found and matched to their keys. Have you asked dragonman for help?

- Actually, when did this forum start going all chevroney?

He's a Johnny-come-lately, I was the original turncoat - although at this rate his will be on the road before mine! Determined fellow that lad. :worship:

The Mustang one is off one of my old Capri's so it's not quite right, that's probably why that doesn't work either...

I've just kept the all-in-one option, although it does look like and extra large lump in my trousers (not the usual case) it's less sh*t to stab you in the leg when bending over.

A bar of monographed soap, some house keys and a section of fuel pipe - my life is so boring in comparison.:worship:

This ones a year old. -Looks as though it's been eventful.

Swapped to try to eliminate a misfire but despite appearances these plugs were all still working fine.

Rust on the flats due to deep submersion in river water some time ago..(y)

How is the misfire? Still having HG concerns?..
I like the photo background by the way. Clearly there are subliminal messages here.

The subliminal message is there just in case the direct instruction fails - but it never has.
Decided to embark upon gasket change anyway because:
1. We know the valve stem seals are fairly knackered.
2. Thought it would be quicker than going into more and more sniff and compression tests (wrong).
3. Fun.
4. It's getting on a bit.

Got so far on removing the head then staled due to needing long reach Ribe bits. Ebay doing its thing as we speak.

Refurbing the head is a given. Question remaining is - will the bores be good enough to go again, or is this a good time to drop a 1.4 bottom end underneath..?

So there's good news and bad news -

Good news is that the bores look great, no scoring, no significant steps just a bit coked up.
Bad news is that the bores look great, no scoring, etc, - so no excuse for the 1.4 bottom end yet..

Good news on the head that I can't see any signs of leakage but it's off to the headmaster for a refresh and check over anyway.
Bad news is that I can't see any signs of leakage so haven't found the source of the misfire so maybe a set of injectors are next up.

Fix it again tomorrow.
