(Update

I got my head gasket done, woop woop. So I have a new timing belt, new water pump, new head gasket obviously, a steel one.
I also got an oil filter and air filter and fresh oil and coolant
. I put a new battery in too and have to give it a small clean.
I've only had it back a few hours and it's running better than ever before. So my little Punto seems to be perfect now.
I love it and it's driving really well now. Smoke gone and everything yay.

(News

Had some trouble with the first mechanic I chose, he overcharged, bi***ed about doing the rocker cover gasket and put oil and coolant in without asking me, he also put my oil cap back cross threaded and told me to drive it (I didn't realise he cross threaded the cap). So my engine bay got covered in oil and the car generally ran dry. I brought it straight back to try to get him to sort it as I started having more issues after that.

So he had it one night, and the next day tried to tell me the piston rings were gone and I needed a whole new engine , I said I was taking the car and did, turns out he fouled the spark plugs and gave it to me running on two cylinders. I don't see how he managed this as according to him he didn't even do compression testing, he "revved it and knew":bang:.

Since then I've said F**k it to that mechanic, won't let anyone go to him. I put wynnes in the car, (Like compression and smoke treatment for oil) and got it to another guy, he had it for a night and got it running nicer than ever for €10 :worship:. He hated Puntos apparently though and he did want me to get rid of it:confused:.

So since that again, after thinking I completely failed in buying my first car:(, I got a reliable mechanic friend to check it, the head gasket is gone now, barely, but it is gone. I'm getting it sorted as soon as I have the money so I'm doing the timing belt and water pump too for good measure, and an oil filter and air filter:).

Hoping its sorted soon cause I seem to be having bad luck haha. My bike chain snapped the same day I got the car back from that awful mechanic who fouled the plugs:yuck:. I don't think I should trust mechanics who aren't bl**dy covered in oil.

I fitted a great radio in the car and I've also found a new dent on it from someone in my carpark and been reversed into at a supermarket. Fingers crossed I get flooded with good luck soon.

I've polished the lights and got some scum off, and I'm really confident driving now, so I'll be applying to do my test as soon as the Head Gasket is fixed, hopefully in a week or two (y).

Thanks for checking out my car. (y)

Oh yeah, it gets good mileage too, 50ish mpg at around 60mph being consistent (National Roads),
and through town it gets between 36 and 40 ish mpg.

it's a stock Abarth bumpers and sporting side skirts.

Looks really nice buddy. Not to sure on the extra boot spoiler

Cheers, I was thinking they were from the Abarth. The Spoiler was on as is, I actually didn't like it in pictures, but when I went to view the car it looked much better, so yeah it's nicer in person haha.

Congrats on the first car. Looks nice I hope it treats you well :)

Thanks guys (y),

em @ Ziggy122, not much car history before me, was serviced, new plugs, new tyres, new timing belt, recent battery. Mileage around 84,000. I cleaned the engine bay on my second day of owning it .

I'm out polishing it several times a week haha, smells like new car. Washing it once a week :p.

Thanks for the info btw, I'll probably get that checked out. I'm getting a small oil and coolant leak fixed this week, should be cheap, rocker gasket and small coolant leak, they're both not serious, but getting sorted quick.
Liam91, I'm down the Sunny South East in Waterford :D.

Meath, cool, never actually been up that far. That's a nice Punto. Yeah, I've had some early issues already but I'm attached to my little car already haha. I love it to bits.:D

Also Any history of the cam belt?

Quick question for you Ziggy. It's about time to get mine done, or very soon at least. I don't think I have the technical ability to do this one myself.

Any idea what sort of price is fair at a garage for this job?

Cheers.

Timing belts cost about €25 here I think, labour on top could be a fair bit, maybe talking €200 but it's a bit rip offery here. Could even cost €300 for the whole job. I got mine done as the labour was already being done on the HG so I got the timing belt and water pump done too.

Right so, Gertrude is just after flying past her 90,000th mile and is looking great after 6000 miles of my ownership :D.

I've polished my lights and they're sooooo much clearer without the oxidation. The pictures do no justice to the difference haha :). I also got a new aerial, an extendable beesting one, and polished out some scuffs and paint transfers. Am thinking of adding some blue interior led(SMD) lighting. Footwells first, and I'll see how that goes.

Sorry for any poor pics, using a phone camera in a rush :p

Lovely looking car! I've never been a big fan of white cars but yours looks really awesome!

Although I've no idea how you're affording the insurance AND repairs on it... I've been driving nearly 6 years, no accidents, no claims, and they still charge me close to £600 a year for my 1.2 8v Punto Active Sport! :bang:

But that's a different story... :D

Looking really good mate, the headlights are awesome, lovely and crisp and clear.

I've heard the 16v engines are the more troublesome and more expensive to repair, but on the flip side, they're also more sporty and faster iirc. Take good care of her and she'll take care of you! (y)

Thats silly! I passed my test 4 months ago (22) and my insurance on my 1.2 16v punto cost me £716!

That's with multicar discount, no claims bonus and named driver bonus, and that's the cheapest I can get it! Really pee's me off, 6 years, no accidents or claims or anything!
