Introduction

Thought it was about time I introduced Gertie the Posh not Wrecked Panda properly :)

Shonky 'bay photo's on which basis the purchase was made

Vernon will be getting GerTie back on the road restoring him to his former glory :worship:

Keeping it simple and stylish, planning on a decent stereo (seeing as it is hidden in it's own little compartment) and a set of custom carpet mats (tastefully embroidered with the GTie legend) are the only mods planned at present. :)

Feel free to fill in a few more details Vernon (y)
Last page on Autosh!te have much details regards how to check crank and cam timing, and correct dizzy position.

Are the nuts holding the dizzy in sitiu still tight or not that tight? If there is a chance of them being loose the dizzy could rotate in same direction as the camshaft is (clockwise iirc). Re toothed belt, Tensioner was altered same as belt was so there is chance that it went one tooth out - such a things does happend.

Inspect dizzy mounting points, mark position and alter a small bit and test drive, repeat until problem solved. If problem still there set back to the original position.

Well I tried to start her up yesterday and nothing but a click from a relay somewhere.

I thought perhaps the battery had discharged it self but it was at full charge after 5 minutes and still no go.

Looks like I've got myself a very expensive driveway ornament - which is a bit unfortunate as I need to move the cars around and get one in the garage soon :bang:

I think I'm going to try and find an auto electrician to look Gertie over - it may be something daft like poor earths or more serious like one of the electronic boxes not doing it's job or even timing.
Hard to believe she ran so well for 300 miles then turned sour.
Just wanted to get the NEC done first - though the lovely colour will have to rough it on the drive until Gertie can be moved!
Not a good time to get chronic insomnia - no sleep last night at all and Lenny Henry's bed isn't as comfy as mine at home.
I'm thinking good thoughts about Panda's and Y10's and hopefully the urge to give Gertie a good thrashing John Cleese stylee will abate before I'm back!

Thats a shame it's not running. Can you check the resistance readings of the sensors to see if they are o.k.
My Strada has 2 sensors and Magnetti ecu and thats all.

That would be a good thing to do! I'm flying blind as I don't really know what I'm looking for, though I suspect the crank sensor is under the timing belt cover - in theory I have a replacement but as ebay bought I'll be suprized if it's the right one!

Just to be difficult the car has two ecu's one Magnetti (which has already been replaced before the difficulties) and one Bosh for the fuel injection as well as the mass airflow sensor gubbins too! Who knows maybe they've fallen out and won't talk to each other anymore (if they ever did)?

I've been given a couple of contact numbers for advice from the Lancia Motor Club so I'll be asking there for help and perhaps a page or two from a workshop manual if one exists!

I'm not giving up on this car, just had a lot on, when it ran it was great, I want to get this car going and then get the car properly sorted definately a keeper!(y)

Seem to remember that when I had my Gtie it had an electric fuel pump which buzzed and then clicked when fuel pressure was reached. ie it primed to pressure when you turned the key before it would start.
Hope it helps as they are magic little cars.
Go like sh..off a shovel.
My son ate the headrest on mine.

I think that's the one I saw at mitcar.

Don't know where the mona lisa steering wheel has gone though!

Would love to have a good look at it under the bonnet, carpets, underneath etc.

I'm sure it's been resprayed.

Hi John, just caught up on the last month of this thread.

A couple of suggestions worth following up in my view......

When I first went to the distributor it was loose, the clamp bolt was not tight. I tightened it after I had finished setting the timing but if there is a problem with the clamping bolt that makes it work loose it may be loose again causing the distributor to turn. As I mentioned to you when you picked Gertie up I felt there was an issue with the timing marks on the flywheel as I couldn't see any. According to the info I had the tdc mark should be visible through a hole in the clutch cover which made me wonder if the clutch had been replaced in the past, the new cover being fitted in the wrong place and covering up the timing marks.
When I fitted the new cambelt I set the engine by the camshaft timing mark then made sure nothing moved while the belts were swapped. When it came to ign. timing I could not use a strobe because of the lack of tdc marks so I did as Dragon man does and set it by ear.

If the distributor is still tight then the options are numerous and need to be checked by someone who understands them all. An auto electrician is a good idea as long as he has had experience of the systems fitted to Gertie, but I was thinking that the garage who supplied the windscreen might be a good choice?

Checked distributor and all is tight - I was hoping for an easy fix.

I need to get Y10 shifted to get the "Seven Grand Panda ;o" into the garage for winter.

I will contact walkers and see if they still have diagnostic/workshop manuals for GTIE.

All of my panda's start and run, trust the "posh one" to be different in a special kind of way.

Have you narrowed it down to fuel or ign? Is there a spark at the plugs?

If not my money is on the new s/h digiplex unit.

So hows Gerties progress? I don't know if it helps at all but I have just borrowed this for a couple of months. Gties are very spiffy.

I had to rearrange the cars and after months of refusing to start Gertie sprang into life and worked perfectly for about 10 miles then went into half power mode again.
I'm going to take it to my local garage for them to look it over next week.
I'd take it to Freddie's but doubt it would get there :(

The half an hour when it worked perfectly were great though!
