Panda (Classic) Project Fallout

Introduction

let me introduce to you, the free panda 4x4 which was first spotted >>Here<<.
First off however, here is the plan:

i will (some how) make the panda look "Post Apocalyptic" yet keep it in a road legal state (so no spikes, sharp rusty edges sadly). We have all seen mad max right? all wanted to replicate a mad max style car?
well let me be the first to attempt this with a fiat panda 4x4.

if anyone here has seen the TV program "Defiance", you surely have seen the epic Doge Charger that looks post apocalyptic. i will be trying to aim for the same theme. with such things as an external roll cadge, external metal mesh / grills covering the windows, custom bull bar, reinforced rear bumper made from tubular metal, custom twin output exhaust, and many many more.

this project is going to be undertaken as cheaply as possible (excluding parts necessary for a safe road going vehicle). reusing as many things as i can find (in scrap yards, freebees), true to a real post apocalyptic constructed vehicle. i will also be taking the "rough is best look" (please note, i say Rough not Rat!) the panda its self of course will undergo all the rust prevention Talon went under when i got him.

anyway, i will leave you a few seconds to build up a mental picture of how a panda 4x4 could look in a post apocalyptic landscape while browsing some of these Pictures.......

ok.. that should do.

First off. i need to get the panda all well and good.
a few things are broken... the exhaust, the front suspension on the passenger side, both rear dampeners are rusted out, the doors are shot but i will try to fix them, the gear stick is really loose and all the roller bearings have dropped out, the wiring is a mess (mice attack!), there are no brakes.. and i mean no brakes, and lets not forget the underside rust.

so today i started by stripping out everything inside the car to get a good look at the floor pan and clean it all out (Dragon Man style!) i found the usual rust: the boot floor is a mess, but easy fixable, a seam has gone just behind the drivers seat anything forward of that seems to be OK, and the back of the sills are just gone so i will need to rebuild that.

the engine runs.. the vac advance line has split so its a bit rough on tickover but it seems good. the fuel tank seems good.. all the 4x4 stuff seems good.

i have go a few pictures took free by a professional photographer! (or should i say someone with an epic camera :p)

Here are a few picture, but please check out >This Album<

like i say, check out the photo album.

i will be keeping >Online video logs< of this, so keep a look out on Youtube too.
here are some videos, both are long but the second one is longer!

keep watching guys.. the jet wash will be coming out later today!

Edit:

This is how it looks now: :eek::eek: :slayer::slayer::slayer:

:tempt:
you know that if you give me those seats, you will get hold of another panda... that really needs some nice seats.. :D

i can wait till some one has a set spare..

No you're welcome to them if you want them John. They really are just cluttering up the back of the lockup - I have bumpers and things that could live there if there was space ;)

No more Panda's......... :bang:

The white 45CL (Casper) is heading down to Vernon to sell on, so that will leave me with 2 mk1's, which is plenty.

The Sisley is all the 4x4 I need - but maybe a scraggy one eventually - NO, I said NO more Panda's........ :bang:

Then there's Panto! which will be the modded one, and the Super which is lovely but not used at all - should really sell that......... :bang:

Repeat after me, NO MORE ******* PANDA'S :bang: :bang:

Edit: Maybe a nice mk1 4x4.......... :tempt:

if you want them moved that bad i'll have them as a spare set :p

its quite funny really, i have been offered 3 sets of seats but all 3 seats are in really good condition... why is no one swapping out rough seats for ones in good condition? :D

They're not doing any major harm John, but you genuinely are welcome to them if that helps.

No rush just say if you want them. Might even be able to take up to the NEC in Nov (probably a bad idea as I don't know where they would go once we got there!) as that should be easy from Derby? (y)

They may be rough by now if the meeces have got them...........

If any of these match Hal (which I think are the same as Fallout...), I'll be more than happy to take (at least) the driver's seat off them...! :D
VmanC -- what happened to Betty's seats...?

i am not sure :/

just been running new front brake lines, and a bit of a disaster... had the flexy on the drivers side snap off in the caliper... anyone got a spare caliper?

next time i get payed from youtube i need to get some more brake pipe! i have ran out... sadly that will be about 5 months time if its anything like the last payment :(

need to get more hits on my videos... hmmm

Hi John,

Just caught up on a months worth of posts on this thread as I hardly ever have time to keep up with everything any more.
You really need to get yourself down to see me soon as I have most of what you need. I'm having a major clear out of old stuff as I desperately need the space. Don't worry about payment at this stage coz you'll probably be taking stuff I'm throwing away, just cover your fuel costs.

Homeward,
You gave the old seats from Betty to Kev so that he could have some spare fabric for his Bianca, but if John can get down to me he could pick up Gavin's seats on the way.

Do we have a plan? :D

That's what I thought...! (y)

John: if you're heading down to Gavin's and then Vernon's, don't forget I have a parcel shelf for you. Could always meet you at Cherwell Valley Services, or somewhere, on the M40...!

this sounds good.. i have a trailer i can bring with me too if needed....?

if you can get stuff in a pile, throw some tarpaulin over it to keep the rain off i can pick it up when i have the cash for fuel. just a thought..
i dont really want to put loads of things in the back of talon as i dont want to damage anything in him.

i should start doing a panda related waste recycling service.
i'd be saying "any old panda related scrap iron" as i go about with the trailer.. haha

thanks guys, thanks for all the help!

oooooOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo

does that mean...

you will be pinching all the stuff i could have >_<

well today.

man is that thread stuck in that caliper hard. tried drilling it out and using one of those (not so) easy-outs.

ended up snapping the not so easy-out :/

gonna see if i can make a mess of it tomorrow and try to weld down the hole a nut onto the top of it. maybe while it is still glowing hot it will brake the magic bond the thread seems to be in.. time will tell!
