Panda (Classic) Red CLX - Decisions...

Introduction

Well when I say red, it will be red, but is currently orange still in places....

Needs a couple of jobs (noisy wheel bearing/driveshaft, engine man light on, bits of TLC) but well worth looking after.

Bought this off the Forum (thanks Christine - couldn't have been more helpful) with the intention of a 16V project. Having no joy finding an engine in time (impending baby arrival means there's a deadline!).

So the decision to be made is.... stick with 16V plan or keep original (it's done 33K). Must admit the the more I work on it, the more I'm thinking about originality, but then I always do that...

I'd say original too, which might sound strange considering Vernon is butchering a CLX for me. That one was off the road for years & never likely to be resurrected though, so was a way of saving it. I like original generally speaking, the Panda Project being the exception to prove the rule! (y)

If already fairly mint and original I'd keep it as it is, but if its been mullered over the years then finish the job properly and 16v it :)

Neat summary from MEP there of my own conclusions based on responses so far (thanks all). Unless I stumble upon an irresistible 16v engine soon, I think original will be the way to go. Car is sound and unmullered (aside from speakers in rear shelf).

Butchering! Honed and crafted surely. :p

You can probably guess my opinion. ;)

I think if you're going to double the power of a car you really need to start with the best one possible. I know you can repair and restore a wreck but they never feel quite as good as one that has had little use. It is important to preserve ultra rare models, but as has been said, we can spare a clx.

Having said all that, preparing for a new baby is probably a better use of your time. :)
