Panda (Classic) Charmanda(er) The Panda

Introduction

Name Change! Previously known as Charmania for anyone not in the know, she's had a slight rename, keeping the Char but sticking my favourite childhood Pokemon name in there, Charmander, mainly because the first time I ever encountered a Panda I was about 8 years old and Pokemon was my favourite thing in the whole world.

Some details,
1992 Fiat Panda 750 Mania
769cc FIRE engine.
Lowered 40mm.
Seicento Sporting Front Seats
Side Stripes for faster acceleration
Fiat 127 'Palio' Alloys.
Veglia Rev counter, so I can count my revs.

I washed her, wanted to take her somewhere nice for pictures but it hasn't been sunny for long enough to do that, so I'll get nicer pictures at some point....
Here she is now, Charmanda.

Sorry for the terrible lighting. Can't do much about the sun.
Have you got a phone charger or equivalent that you could plug in, to check...?
I found two, plugged them both in (consecutively), nothing :(

Aha!

See here for the key...!
Ugh more diagrams that I'll have to somehow make ends worth of

EDIT: Forgive my incompetence, but I'm looking for a red/green wire? As a permanent live?

There should be a permanent live for a radio in the original loom somewhere, I'm pretty sure it runs on the same circuit/fuse as the cigarette light anyway.

Correct :)

I think so, too.... :D

[Sound of Pandanut rifling through his online images....]

Aha!

See here for the key...!

mk1 or mk2 diagram  :p

It's dead, Jim....

Firstly, it is not "incompetence", by any means -- it's just part of the learning process we all continue to go through... (as fun as that can be, sometimes...). :)

Secondly: yes... -- the R/V (red/green (rosso/verde?)) wire should be permanently live; and should split to go to both the radio (59010) and the fag lighter (59000). (y)

As I remember, in mine, there's a socket that the fag lighter plugs straight into (with red/green and black wires -- which is what had become disconnected when I manfully forced the radio into its slot...). All I needed to provide was a feed so that the lighter glowed when the side- and headlights were switched on... -- but it sounds like you've got that working already....

Any help...?

mk1 or mk2 diagram  :p

Mk2. (I hope... -- as it's what I used on Pippin! It also matched the wiring that was there...!) :D

EDIT: This is from my original posting, in the other thread... :p

This is from my Haynes (1981 to 1991); but the Porter (1981 to 1994) diagram is identical...! (Phew.) (y)

So possibly both Mk1 and Mk2...! :D

I found a red/green wire, followed it, it seemed to come down from the clock and eventually end up at the cigarette lighter. I eventually found a spade connector already on the wire, so plugged it into my current radio. Hey presto, constant live! Thanks homeward and VmanC

Also bought Charmanda a present.

Alright so I stuck it on a bit wonky.... Looks alright to me anyway (y)

This might seem a little obsessive but at the beginning of the month, every month, I used to check over everything on my Punto, tyre pressures, oil, coolant etc. I did this check for the first time on Charmanda today.
Started with checking the oil...... I spent about 5 minutes looking for the dipstick, because I'm an imbecile. :bang: I've only worked on 'new' cars that have really long dipsticks right at the top of the engine with a bright yellow handle.
Moving on checked coolant, couldn't actually see the level through the reservoir, its more yellow than clear.

Gave her a wash because every other Monday is car cleaning day for me.
(I'm quite OCD...)

Whilst cleaning the car and being utterly bored I was wiping some dirt off the exhaust tip and remembered a video I had seen quite some time ago of someone filling their exhaust tip with soap suds and then blowing bubbles by revving the engine.

So, the excited 8 year old I am I scooped loads of bubbles up from my wash and wax, filled the exhaust tip. Set my phone on record and started her up.
The image in my head was big perfect bubbles flying out of the exhaust.

Reality.

Just covered my phone in bubbles really....

:ROFLMAO:

You div didge :p

No No No, you're doing it all wrong! If you want big bubbles jack the back of the car up about 50cm and pour 5 litres of washing up liquid (mixed 50/50 with water) down the exhaust pipe. Then make sure it's not in gear and fire up the engine. Bubble city :p

I want video proof you've done this and are not just encouraging Didge to ruin his exhaust :p:D

Don't worry, Didge will film it and then you'll see what it does to his exhaust  maybe I should have suggested jacking it up 1 mitre, then it would have probably made it into the head :D
Yeah I'd rather not rust my entire exhaust thanks. Hence why I just filled the chrome tip...

I finally fitted my new radio, well when I say 'I' I meant my friend, I really am useless with electronics.

Everything seems to work properly and the car rattles SOOOO much less now, I assumed before just about everything was rattling but it turned out to be mostly my old radio and nothing else. New radio is actually attached to a cage and is infinitely less noisy when I hit pot holes/speed bumps/small children.
