Panda (Classic) 1989 Fiat Panda 1000S New Zealand

Introduction

Hi all,

Got told to up load my pics to here,

So here we go.

Got this last weekend as a fuel saver run about car.

Bought it because my first car was a Fiat Uno 60s, I wanted another but none were available then I saw this!

Paint code for those that may want to know...

Balls just spent all day looking for one. It is a Sunday so a lot of places weren't open.

Found one mechanical the sameish type but it was too round and it wouldn't fit.

Kept looking then found another larger one bought it as I was running out of day then when I get home I try and bang it into shape.

It breaks. :S

That sucks!! Why are there no good car part places in NZ!

Will have to try my luck monday...

I saw an auto electrician today about getting a light flasher off him after the fiat mechanics told me they couldn't help.

He told me he didn't have what I needed but to just join the two pins (battery and light) then if I blow another fuse it means I have a wire problem somewhere.

So I did.

The indicators finally worked but obviously didn't flash/blink. I left it like this for the drive to work but blew a fuse on the way over. So I've definitely got wiring problems.

Back to square one.

Good news and bad news,

I found the grounding issue.. well at least I think I have. No blown Fuses for 24 hours! So now I just need to wire in a relay as none of the shop ones fit. Should be able to do this tonight.

Bad news is my fan for my heater is very intermittent. Also my headlight dip when it goes off. So maybe another short??

Weirdest thing is. I push the clutch pedal in, and back on the heater comes! Then off again if I don't hold my tongue the right way.

:D

There's nothing -- for example -- piggybacked onto the brake pedal switch (like my switched radio live...), is there, that's getting tangled up in the footwell...? Or is that too obvious...?

Pretty sure there isn't. I have time to look at it tonight so hopefully I don't break more things.

The last grounding issue was from an old horn that was still mounted under the front bumper . It was half unplugged and I think that was the problem.

It's amazing what you can find, isn't it...? I've still got an 'extra' earth lead -- thankfully not causing any issues -- under the bonnet of the 750 that I can't, for the life of me, work out what it could have been connected to....

Good luck...! (y)

Yeah! I have a random grounding wire from the negative terminal on the battery going all the way across to the front window wiper motor mount.

I'm not moving it but not sure it's necessary . :D

Weird italians.

Blew the fuse again. This time while the hazzard lights were on and I was playing with some wires that connect to the drivers side headlamp.

So I pulled out the lamp and got a suprise. after pulling out the other as well..

The big bulb was on the drivers side.. the side I caused the fuse to blow.

Which bulb is the right one?

:S

Which bulb is the right one?

I think they both might be...! But I have the thinner type....

They should be H4, with I think the P43t fitting: like these I've just installed in Pippin, on the recommendation of Most Easterly Pandas. (y)

See also this linky.

Sorry that they're both UK web pages....

They both are. The left is OEM 40/45watt, and the right is a later uprated 55/60watt bulb. Got the earlier ones in our Panda at the moment as its a weekend car which doesn't go out much after dark, and I've about 10 of the bulbs floating about, so need to burn through them (not difficult when your headlights are on all the time like ours :))

Finally have a little update.

Bought some H4 P45t to P43t Base adaptors.

And some bright white 55/60w H4 bulbs.

and here are the before and afters...

Before

Left is the new bulb:

And after

Also I started making replacement door cards. As mine were looking worse for wear..

Sketched ready for cut out.

Will cut them out in a couple of days when I get time after work.

:)

Thanks to Most Easterly Pandas, I upgraded the bulbs on Pippin, too... -- they make a heckuva difference, don't they...? (y)

Was thinking of putting spotlights on Betty: but now don't think they're needed -- even on our dark country lanes....

hmm i have P45t bulbs in Talon.. no adapter plates but they are wobbly as hell.. they move a lot and if you go over a bump sometimes you have to stop and adjust the bulb position again.

what is the difference between P45t and R2 bulb fittings? they look the same from google picture searches.
