Panda (Classic) White Mk1 Panda 45CL

Introduction

This is the white mk1 45CL I rescued recently. He's been in storage for a few years since the elderly owner died, but now back up and running. Showing a heady 12000 miles, and with all the old MOT's, he had to be saved!

Future uncertain in terms of where he will end up, but it has to be a good home if/when he moves on........

These pictures were taken in between snow showers today (yep that's snow falling in pics 4 & 5!). Having washed the car, the paint was disappointingly dull, with deep black ingrained dirt, and black streaks everywhere. It looked better dirty.......

Today I did stage one and two of the Meguiars three stage polishes (followed by a quick flash over with Meguairs Quikwax), and wow what a difference - paint has come to life, gone white, and shines - lots of work needed as this was a quick attempt at making semi presentable for a show, but some potential there I think......... (y) Don't worry it's nowhere near as perfect as it may look in the photos, but very good for a mk1.

Come on Gavin.....it looks great. Think it may have less rust scabs than the VIP.

We will have to compare...:) 12,000mls has to be a huge bonus...(y)

With the MGM reg it's crying out for a film star name...

Thanks - you'll see it has its issues but at least all the work today was worthwhile. It really does look like a different car and I have only used the paint cleaner Meguiars (too quickly really) not any cutting compounds. Vernon will make it look way better when he gets hold of it.

Yes you're right with MGM - he's unnamed so far, so answers on a postcard.

Not been used for 7 years and not much before that, so Coleford a big test. I have faith though (and a nice orange breakdown card ;) ).

Orange ay, I have a yellow one :D

On those mk's if anything is wrong it is probably the dizzy or the carb. Engines just go go go! :slayer: No timing belts to worry over, just a rattly timing chains

In fact I'd say if it's got a good new dizzy cap and points on then you're probably safe. I have had problems with the carb before but the mk1 4x4 came with a posh twin choke carb with auto choke and everything. Jets kept blocking on it though (seems to have only been a problem with my first panda though  the white 4x4 has not had this in over 10,000miles!).

Anyway basically I am trying to give you my vote of confidence! :D

Thanks. Err well I reset the points but they looked poor, the cap was dodgy looking, and I haven't had time to get new HT leads (it seems ok when it warms through!) - hey it's an adventure - how difficult can it be??!! :D

C reg... MGM.... C for Clark Gable??

I have already got Charlie for the VIP...or could have been Charlie Chaplin. Still can be..

Good idea, but maybe a bit highbrow for me! Didn't MGM do Tom & Jerry, and the Pink Panther films? There you've got my level now - how about "C" for Clouseau or maybe Cato?? :D

Cracking car!

If it were mine I'd call it Hepburn, after Katherine or Audrey. It's even good as a male name. :)

But not as good as Bogey ;)

Ok well it's not going to be Bogey on my watch - not now the paint's gone whiter anyway!! :D

Keep the ideas coming - it can go to a vote, then there are a couple of other no-name Panda's to name. The blue Mk1 isn't named yet either :(

Well Casper as the white 45CL eventually became, is off to Uncle Vern's at the end of the week.

He will be fettled & tidied (Casper that is), ready to be sold on.

I can't justify keeping him locked away without use, and someone will hopefully get a lot of enjoyment from him if he moves on to a new home. This one is more than solid (possibly more solid than Jasper the blue one), and only has 12000 miles on the clock (and all the old MOT's to back it up).

Some of you will have seen Casper at shows, so will know just how good this car will be after Vernon's finished. Below is him at the Chiltern Hills and Coleford (cold, snowy, and miserable!).

If anyone on here is looking for a really good mk1, now's the time to put your head above the parapet. (y)

I'd like a Mk1 panda more than many other things :yum:
If you'd like to swop a few of my pandas for it or want some really nice carpentry work done in your house than maybe we could come to a deal (y) ;) :slayer: :D
