Panda (Classic) My new (old) panda 4x4 sisley project

Introduction

oh well is never to late to be a new owner of an old panda 4x4:D
picked car up today that i won last week on ebay auction and i already love it
is a big project and does look rough but floorpan and sills are incredibily solid considering the car is from 1989!!
included in the sale were a lot of spare parts and im very pleased with it:slayer:
interior is complete but needs a good clean:yuck:
there are some pics for you all panda fan and hopefully this sisley will be back on road for summer;)
One of the first batch....sorry i have to agree with the others...you will kick yourself in a couple of years time when you realise what you have done and see what people will pay for a unique car. I bet hardly any of the original 500 are left..they are different.

Well i did not realise that this was such unique car...
What is the actual difference between the 88 model and the 89 model?
I know that the sisley was supposed to be a limited version but then fiat change that and made it permanent
So what my 88 model would be worth fully restored?

Origional was limited to only 500, and had fake leather interior etc :)

Vern and Freddy have one both are being saved...the inside is a different colour. A few other bits like the bonnet vent, plain seat belts differ. Little things here and there....fully sorted £2,500 plus

Didn't the original 500 have the beige interior, different writing on the speedo etc etc? Look up VmanC's cars. He has an original grey metallic one and its up for sale on his website. (y)

As far as I can tell the first ones came in Bordeaux Red, Tropical Green or Quartz Grey. Interior was trimmed in beige 'Mistral' fine pile cloth. They didn't have a bonnet vent as standard, this came with the later ones along with a few other changes.
Quartz Grey was dropped after the first year and Agadir Blue was introduced, also the beige interior changed to grey.

I noticed the difference on the interior colour
Im gonna have a proper look at it and try to save it now! I dont think the guy that sold me it knew either how special this 88 sisley is
Thanks for info and will keep you posted!:D

What a lucky find!

Sooo are you going to resto two now?

In which case you will need another parts car :p

I dont know to be honest as some parts are hard to find and i dont think i have enough bits for both...i have members of family in italy that are also looking for various sisley bits:p
I be lucky if i can restore one of them because im also fighting an unknow liver infection since november and a the moment im jugling my life around various hospital visits:(
Hopefully this wont force me to sell both unrestored

Sorry to hear about you're not well, hope you get restored to full health soon.

Throw a cover over the sisley's, they're patient panda's and will wait for a bit.

Mind you I find a bit of messing about with Fizzle is always good to take my mind off my troubles :)

Productive day as i managed to start and drive the 89 sisley today
4x4 system works and all gears select :D
We had a look in more detail at the 88 sisley and is not good news as far too much rust everywhere really...specially chassis and floor:( so as much i would love to save it i dont think i can:(

Hey there this project looks alot of fun, great to hear that you've had her running :slayer:

I too run a 4x4 (mines used daily on the raod) and also have a scrapper 4x4, I had to come to terms with the fact that the scrap one was just gonna cost too much to save but she lives on in my road going one!

Give us a shout if you are stuck with anything (y)

I don't unfortunately but have you checked if they are still available to buy new?

I have been looking at the OS maps for your area around the North Yorkshire coastline there are alot of fantastic green lanes and byways!

I understand what you're saying as yes they are on the expensive side, but atleast getting one you would know that it would be working.

Have you checked that the vacuum advance is working correctly? This could sometimes cause bad or not running.

No is definitely the distributor itself
Had no spark on the 89 sisley, changed ignition coil, dizzy cap, dizzy module and still no spark
I swapped the distributor with the 88 sisley and fired up straight away:rolleyes:

Ah yes that seals it then - I will keep a look out for you :D

Are you hoping to keep both cars 'whole' or are you still thinking about breaking, I mean can you not use the other distributor permanently?

Thanks a lot
Im not 100% sure what to do at the moment
Ill be working on the 89 sisley and hopefully find all the parts that are missing from the net without savaging the 88 sisley
I really dont want to break the 88 sisley, what i really need is another 87/88 sisley so out of three cars i can make 2 good ones! Sounds complicated:D
