head gaskets and rust problems plague both cars so they are well suited.

What are the specific issues that make it everyday unfriendly?
Old landrovers are not exactly the most reliable/economic/water tight/warm/comfortable cars in the world to own, hence why its always a good idea to have a reserve
Though I suspect you've gotten confused and thought I meant the punto ?

No, the land rover. The punto is a peach for everyday use, so far.....
I have stuck by and been incredibly loyal to the land rover. Just need a break
