Grande Punto iPunto90's Grande Punto 1.4 T-jet Sporting, Black!

Introduction

Hi everyone! :D

Here's my member motor thread on my Sporting, i'd been looking for a AGP (Abarth Grande Punto for you newbies) and having looked i couldnt find a nice example with reasonable mileage for less than £9000+ at the time so as cool as Abarth's are it was steep so i decided to get a Tjet and make it my own!! So basically heres the story and update!

I bought the car from TJ Vickers from Telford in June 2012 for £5000 with 37,000 miles on the clock! It's so much better than my previous Grande Punto (1.3 dynamic), It looks so much better and was the best looking Sporting i saw whilst looking around, the customer service at TJ Vickers was fantastic, having to travel 2.5 hours from blackpool to get there the salesman put sold signs on the car because of the travel and reserved the car for me! (plug over with).

It's so much better than my old car, insurance hasnt really gone up, it looks alot better being a Series2 with the dark headlights, the silver dashboard, carbon dash surround, new silver dials, the thicker steering wheel and gearstick and of course THE SEATS! It obviously sounds ALOT better than my diesel and the performance is AMAZING from a little 1.4, i've had the car 8 months now problem free and even today the performance amazes me and my friends!

Got BIG plans for it but for now.. Here how it was when i picked it up! (y)

Fancy having a look under your car for me??? :D I will be eternally in your debt :)

Can do yeah, but....what am I looking for? I know sod all about exhausts except they make a noise and are attached under the car haha don't think I could tell the difference lol, whilst we're on a bit of a hijack, does anyone know what silvertec bulbs I need for my indicators in the lights? Want to de-tango everything but can't find them anywhere and I guess they have to be for S2 lights? 08 onwards sort of thing

I got mine from halfords, simple to do have to go in through the wheel arch liners.

I say simple, a pain if you have massive hands and no space for them.....

Theyre the same as s1 bulbs, csnt remember the code but the pins on them are ofset, not opposite :) hellfrauds for about £8 with a trade card :) and the but I'm interested in is the mid box, like a silencer box thing halfway down the car :) I wanna know if theres one there or not :) sorry for the hijack dude!

I have some brand new unused ones if you want to buy them? :)

cheers for the offer buddy but i'll probably just pop round to halfrauds as it's just down the road :) have you de-dangoed your lights?

I'm going to get it out of it's little house for a clean in a minute so i'll have a look underneath mate, if I cant tell i'll just take a picture haha :p

New thread name that now includes my name so its easier to find/see!
Thanks to Andy Monty and the mod's! :D

Also should be getting something for my car within the week but its a surprise so you'll have to wait and see what it is.. (y)

Bit of an update!

1st of all i was GIVEN a tuning box from my friend Natalie's boyfriend for my car as he had a spare one lying around so i've fitted that and having done a few little 0-60's..

  • Standard 0-60 = 8.9 Seconds
  • Now 0-60 = 8.2 Seconds (Same figures as a Abarth Grande Punto but with 2 People in the car for the purpose of a stopwatch)
It's now so much faster and noticeable, it pulls so much more.. you hit 3000rpm and your off! So without the funds for a rolling road day out ive estimating im running about 155-160BHP With my Abarth backbox, induction kit and my FREE tuning box also put my induction kit back on as it sounds loads better and is same performance as the BMC panel filter i had in originally!

Alsooo i was having a gander on the Abarth forum as i had a strange popping whenever i revved the engine and have resolved the issue with a brilliant little mod for anyone with a T-JET.. http://www.abarthforum.co.uk/gp-abarth-tuning/blow-off-mod-how-to-incs-sizes-and-whats-needed/ you have the sound of a Dump Valve for a fraction of the cost and Its REALLY Dumps LOUD! :D a nice cheap little mod! :) Here's a sneak peak under the bonnet as ive never really shown it!

Im going away for a few days to my Auntie's near south wales till mid next week so wont be on as much but will be interesting to see the journey figures (MPG, Average speed) with my new tuning box, spent this afternoon cleaning, washing and doing my pre-flight checks ready for a early start for the long journey! I'll take my camera but for now, Enjoy.. :D

Apologies for the camera quality there off my mobile! (n)

Car looks really great dude :) not trying to knock the car but the standard turbo wouldnt make 160bhp let a lone 155bhp, I had mine mapped on the original turbo and only made 141bhp but felt a lot more powerful.

I believe they say you would only feel the difference if you gained 10% more power than what was there originally. So any gain over 12 bhp on a standard t-jet would feel like a huge gain but like JackFi says your probably hitting between 132 - 140 bhp (at an educated guess) none the less you know how much I like this car and that engine cover looks well smart (until all them horses make it dirty :D)

Jordan.

Nice looking car this mate how you keeping a black car so clean :)

I know this will annoy alot of people who spend fortunes and days on end with fancy clays and other such things but i got this from Halfords and some microfibre clothes.. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/...01&langId=-1&productId=556681&catalogId=10151

It's 5.99 and will do the car about 4-5 times! All i/you do is wash the car with a bucket and sponge, hot water.. let it get to the stage where its fairly dry and then spray on and wipe dry and it makes your car look brand new and stays like that in dry weather for about a week.. its a great, cheap and super quick way of making your car look tip-top! (y)

With regards to the power im producing, i did say it was a rough estimate as i havent got the money to get it on a rolling road, but its an approximate guess with it having the same, if not a fraction of a second faster than the Abarth Grande Punto (155bhp) 0-60 time of 8.2s! :) I know a few places on the internet that quote a remap on the tjet turbo can get 150-160bhp but then theres some lesser places ive seen where they can only make it do 130-140bhp so i guess it depends where you get it done, im not knocking anyone who's got that power but i will try and get it RR'd sometime soon to confirm what its producing! Even if its only producing within the region of 140bhp im pretty happy that i can keep up and even in some cases possibley edge it against the big boys! (y)

Whilst away i took some pictures of the punto in some different surroundings so here's a few pick of the bunch! (y)

A couple of a new game called.. "Spot The Punto!" :D

Just a few general pictures from the woodlands known as 'Symonds Yat' in the Forest of Dean, im quite suprised at how clean it stayed despite the long motorway drive and the country lanes i obviously was thinking i was Colin McRae (RIP).. :slayer:

Thanks for all the nice words and comments from the fans of my car like Jordan and SJB! means alot.. :D

Nice pics :) in regards to your reply, I know places say they can get 150-160 but its not true at all. When I got my car originally mapped by tony (ex red dot) it made 141bhp, I asked him how come people at red dot were getting higher figures, he said its about how much transition losses they account for because the reading is taken from the flywheel also where in inlet temperature is taken from because that can cause a higher reading, so basically red dot over compensate for losses.

Bit of a update.. first of all im no longer unemployed i'm due to start work soon at Arnold Clark at Vauxhall here in Blackpool, as a Sales Exceutive it's a great job, Basic 16k with realistic earnings of 25k+ with commission AND company car so very soon you should start to see some mega massive changes to the sporting now i've some decent money coming in! :D

Anyways more down to earth updates, my best friend Kelly kaci1991 has now joined the Punto family with her 1.4 16v Starjet Sporting! So to celebrate we went for a bit of a photoshoot the other night and here are the best pictures of the night.. :)

I also found my badgeless grille off my old car so that got sprayed and put back on, i personally think it looks loads better.. and meaner!!
