Punto (Mk1) Punto 60SX :)

Introduction

Hi everyone!

I've created this thread seeing as I've posted the old one in the wrong section! :bang: Sorry guys!

This is my first car, a MK1 Punto 60SX from 1999, also known as Jimi :slayer:

It's not perfect but it wouldn't be fun if it was!

Here's how I got it:

So, after some deep thinking, my first personal touch was a new Fiat gear knob and a white leather gaiter (I know it's too short, I'm gonna get round to it eventually!) :p :

After that my stock tweeters melted and my radio broke, so I got myself a Pioneer head unit and a pair of Alpine E-Type 4" Speakers for the front doors:

Front 4'' Speakers.jpg

And some Alpine E-Type 6"x9" on the parcel shelf for good measure; I know what most of you will say but I have to use my boot quite often, and the sub will come... eventually ;) :

So I went further, I bought a Twin Pipe Exhaust which came with a 3 step reducer:

And this is how it looks on the Punto now:

For Christmas I got these lovelies seeing as my old ones were a complete mess! :

The other day I decided I'm gonna give my car some colour.
Step one was to get the old side moulding (to others may be known as "the plastic bits on the sides") off, get all the old tape and gunk off the car (which was a BIG, MASSIVE pain!), paint them and stick them back on.

Gave it a bit more thought and decided to do the front and the rear of the car too. Here's how it went:

When I came to do the back I had a bit of trouble:

Here are my new lovely alloys! 14"s of a Bravo, bought on eBay for £70 (including tyres and fitting that hour!) Bit of a bargain really! (y)

I must admit they're not in pristine condition but that just gives me something useful to do! I think I'm gonna refurb them and paint them white

My plan would be:
  • Refurb the alloys and paint them white
  • CC the wing mirrors and door handles (that would in green, not silver) Thoughts?!
  • Tint the rear windows to about 65%
  • Stick some decals on the quarter panels :p
  • Cut down the gear stick!
  • Get some new air vents (which look decent)

Any thoughts, comments and suggestion are more than welcome!! :D

Thanks for keeping up everyone! :peace:

I agree regarding your proposed mods... the green is a bit naff and I'm sure you'll get bored of it soon. Standard black always looks better against silver, also against red, yellow, orange etc IMO.

White wheels will look awful... best in silver or maybe anthracite, again to match the silver. The Brava wheels are nice, though obviously you really need lower profile tyres for the Punto (175/60 x 14 or 185/55 x 14)

If you want to smarten it up then as stated above, try to find bits from a proper Sporting model (gearstick, steering wheel, etc).

You have a nice example of an older car that is quite rare now, and it would be a shame to spoil it (though you seem to be doing stuff that's easily reversible). However it is a 5-door Punto 60, so it's never going to be a street beast, best just to enhance it and spend effort and money on keeping it running nice (unexpected bills will always arrive!).

Hope you enjoy it, and don't do anything you'll regret...

Nice one! That is some rare Punto mate! Hang onto it!! (y) That is a while looking for a car!

Oh no! :( What happened to it?

They were rare then, absolute hens teeth now even the more common ones are a rarity.
It Hydrolocked on its own petrol, knackered the piston rings ended up shooting unleaded out the dipstick...I sold it on cos I'd just bought the swift it had an engine rebuild carried on for a few years but I believe its been taken off the road or scrapped now.

That's sad man :( Beautiful cars just scrapped! Not cool!
Will have a look through your thread for sure :)
On the other hand, good luck with your swift! (y) and thanks for the interest mate :)

Green stripes....

Gear stick...

Rear number plate... :yuck:

All the rest... (y)

Sorry didn't get back to you earlier mate, ma bad! :)
The green stripes is only a temp thing at the moment, when I get a bit more money the car is going to be white :slayer:
I agree with the whole street beast thing, I wasn't planning on putting turbo and nitrous in anyway :yum: haha x) but I just want a car that people will turn to and go 'Wow, that's a nice ride!' :p
I like the gear stick! :D don't even go there! ;)
But thanks for the input, any is appreciated :)
P.S. As for the number plate, yeah I know! I'm gonna have to change it for its MOT anyhows! :)

Hello everyone!

I'm sorry I didn't have a chance to update, started a new job, etc etc.
But I'm going down the local scrappy on Saturday to get a few bits (timing belt cover, pipes and stuff like that), and also just to have a look at what they got down there.

Most likely thing to be next on my agenda is to work on the interior; change the seats and the centre console along with a change of colour :yum:.
Either that, or exterior, I'm looking for a colour change from standard silver to white but... HOLY COW THE PRICES ARE BBBBBIG. So, it's either a DIY job (and make a crap job :p) or go to a bodyshop and get it done professionally and be out of the pocket for God knows how long.
After that, I'm looking into getting non-standard Fiat alloys (15"s, by the way, if anyone knows any good places, online or store, where to get good alloys at a cheap price, don't hesitate to share the info!! (y)) and obviously lowering, found some German site that does a VOGTLAND Suspension Kit for (brand-new) for £250ish? So yeah. Good times. Bad times. :p
And little bits n' pieces like clear side repeaters, angel eyes, tint my rear lights at some point (DON'T EVEN START), and create a connection between the car wiring and my 6x9's so that it's a matter of "plug and play".
But my pride and joy is my TOP SECRET project I'm working on at the minute, more than likely will be done at some point in the summer ;)

As always comments, opinions and suggestions are more than welcome!! :)

Okay, so started the new job and the money started to flow.
Got myself a new number plate! :) Eventually!!
Serviced the car myself, changed the air filter, oil filter, engine oil but it came to do the fuel filter didn't have the right tool to remove it :( So gonna do it next weekend!
As for next weekend the plan is to put in:
the new centre console
fit brembo front brake pads and rear drums (AND clean & paint the calipers)
K&N induction kit (and somehow manage to fit it along with the original filter
attach Hawk Alarm and Remote Control System
a duct hose (seeing as my old one is RIPPED (R.I.P.) to shreds)

Plans for the near future:
Fit new seats
Get rid of rear wiper
Underseal the body of the whole car
Tint rear windows and screen
Have a haircut
Get 2 spacers (13cm) for the front speakers, so I can open my windows fully!! (y)
Fit a Suspension Kit

I think that's about it, from the top of my head, anyway.

Ah yes. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY AT SOME POINT RESPRAY THE CAR. :D

All opinions, suggestions and comments are always welcome :)

keep posting pictures mate (y)
I will do! Some more will be coming tonight!
Got me Caliper Cleaning Kit and Paint, Brembo Stickers (you know... to make it official ;)), Brembo Front Brake Pads and Honda Civic 13cm Speaker Spacers :D Pics will be up tonight but completed work will be up most likely on Sunday!

Thanks for keeping up man! (y)

Hey Hey everyone!

Long time since I've been able to do anything to the car, but here I go at it again :)

Got some stuff to put on during the weekend or early next week!
Here we go!

First off got Brake Caliper Cleaning Kit + Paint (yes red, yes I know its chav  but just wait)
Caliper Cleaning Kit + Paint.jpg

Got some Brembo Stickers to go on the Calipers, seeing as branded Brembo's are NOT cheap:
Brembo Stickers.jpg

But that's not the only Brembo bit I got ;) Here's the front pads (drums are on their way too):
Brembo Front Pads.jpg

And last but not least, got these Honda Civic 130mm Speaker Spacers (so I can wind down my front windows all the way :yum:), just needs some mesh or cloth now, but here they are:
Front Speakers' Spacers.jpg
The pic doesn't do it's duty because the camera on BBs is terrible (n)

So far, that's it. The car is going into the garage to get looked at, my thermostat is having a heart attack while I drive, but mainly in traffic; also it's keeps jerking on start (cold engine) and 2.5-3.5rpm, that's all after the head's been replaced on the damn thing as well :bang:

But for the next few weeks going to be focusing on the engine and performance; MASSIVE decision has also been made that I'm going to keep the car SILVER (because I'm not prepared to pay ridiculous amounts of money for it to be done and the whole DVLA bull is just gonna whoosh up my insurance. So... As SO MANY of you previously said, the car is going to remain Silver and Red (instead of Green) and Black but that's for little bits n' pieces.

But for now it's a bye-bye.

All comments, opinions and suggestions are more than welcome!! :)

Don't remove the rear wiper and don't tint the windows... All tacky, pointless, predictable "mods".

I even think lowering is unnecessary as you will probably find that fresh "standard" gas KYB or Schs / Boge shocks will improve ride and handling.

Just keep making repairs and genuine enhancements, you will have a tidy little car while you get driving and ownership experience and lower your insurance bills.

I understand that at your age you guys don't quite get the concept of "less is more", but it seems you're basically on the right track...

The rear wiper isn't working and I can't be bothered to trace the wire where the it died (n)

In all honesty, the stock/current Suspension is utter sh*$@, bits peeling off and it creaks; so while I thought I might as well get something that I'm not going to replace a year later when I want to lower it, so yeah :)

My main target is to fix the engine and all other 'main' parts completely, so there will be no cracks, creaks, ratling, etc.

Haha! I sort of know what you're saying by 'less is more' ;)

But thanks for keeping up and input mate :)

Hello again!

Here's another quick update! :)

Just received the Centre Console from the awesome Mr "J.R Racing", originally from a Punto MK1 GT, here's the pics:

And here is the pic of the new Alloy Duct Hose (the old one is LITERALLY in pieces, the pics will be up on the weekend):

As always, all comments, suggestions and opinions are more than welcome! :)

Will the brembo stickers actually fit on a standard mk 1 caliper or is to be brem brakes?
Tbf might be an idea to just sort the stock suspension, I fitted four new shocks to mine, along with new bushes and radius arms at the back and it sorted it right out. Although think the garage got the wrong bits as it seemed to have an accidental 15mm drop..
