Can anyone help please? I have read several threads on here about engine cutting out when braking and have followed advice.
My '95 Barchetta was stood for about 4 weeks and then started cutting out when braking (dangerous and scary). My garage have had the computer on it and showed no faults so he then cleaned the idle return valve as suggested on here. Total cost 102 Euros. Poor Betty is still the same! Also, the temp gauge isn't going much above cold even after an hours drive. Tickover is fine and engine starts 1st time every time.

Please help, otherwise a much loved car will be going to another owner. Any suggestions are welcomed.

Hi B/F, welcome to the forum.

A question, does the cutting out only happen when cold or does it continue once the engine has run for a while? I appreciate that you have a sluggish temperature gauge, (ours is the same, rarely getting to half-way even during the hottest trips), but after about 10 kms it should be up to running temp. Does the injector light stay on for a few seconds after starting or does it go out straight away?

There are a lot of knowledgable people here and I'm sure you'll be sorted soon.

As an aside, yet another 'B' in France, where are you, we are in the Midi Pyrenees along with another couple of ex-pat 'B's and at least one near Beziers.

Thanks for your reply.:bang:
Since this started happening i haven't done more than a 30k trip and yes it happened then, going through a sleepy French villagewith tight bends, 2nd gear 20mph, car behind me and cut out. Warm, cold no difference. The ignition light goes off immediately after starting. The temp guage raises slightly but doesn't ever get 1/2 way.
I'm getting to the point of being afraid of using it.
BTW, I'm in Haute Vienne...long way from you but I do know Beziers, I drove down there 3 years ago. There is another B owner about 10 mins away from me, don't know them but will probably try and find out the owner and compare notes.

C'mon new idle controle valve only costs €35 and is replaced within 10minutes.
Cleaning didn't do the trick with me, only replacing(and I did it twice in 2 years now)
2nd time on warranty as they give 2years warranty on those :D
Love atp autoteile on ebay

Btw. For fixing the low temp replace your thermostat. It's dead allready.
instal a 88° thermostat of a good brand. they often fail. Replaced mine 2 times in 3 years :(

Have you fixed the engine cutting out?
