Introduction

Meet Bumble bee
replacing my beloved but now scrapped Mk2 Blue punto

Needs some bits doing to it - but i never leave cars alone anyway :)

So here he is
2004 on a 53 plate
58K
Yellow Active Sport (8v engine)
Alloys - nice grey interior and generally nice tidy motor that needs a little more tlc to make him better :)

So what has been done so far? Well its got a fairly new backbox - but middle pipe went, replaced under its warrenty

Given him a darn good clean and wash, but lasts all of 5 mins been yellow :(

Pulled all the roof gutter seals out and cleaned the rubbish out from there
Also had the windows screen trim rubber and cleaned all around there :)

what i wanna do is get everything cleaned up, tidy alot up
add a few features i want back in :)

But here we go :)

So i did the roof gutters - they were really really ready.... which means all the cack runs down the rear lights.....

So out they come

Well upon refitting i must have shocked one of the light units

its made the entire element pop off, so it didnt work :(

However - 1 hella good excuse to get 2x new bulbs :)

Hello Orsam Nightbreaker Plus :)

Can you tell which fog light has the new bulb and which is standard?
Yes my DRL's are off for this :)

Dusk fog.jpg
Night Fog.jpg

For £13 delivered its worth it

Brighter - little bit whiter - much better vision with it = :D
Something tells me i want to replace my current headlight bulbs, since i have no idea what they are.....

Ziggy

the problem with the mk2b foglights is they tend to just scatter the light on the ground immediately in front of the car, great in poor conditions if you're struggling to see the edges of the road but naff all use for anything else.

Well whats happened since my last update 4 weeks ago?

Nothing, cars running sweet as a Nut, but now college is coming to an end
Time to get cracking on with bits and bobs

so today was MOT day :(

However - Good news!! :slayer:
Passed
Needed a replacement Numberplate bulb = Free as i had a spare

1 advisory tho
001 - Steering System has slight free play detected at steering wheel [2.2.A.1b]

So see my thread here to see how i get on with that!

Ziggy

Well i was bored today, the front wheels were looking truly disgusting from road grime and brake dust

So today my wheels are soo clean you can eat your dinner off them :)

I really do love this stuff
CarPro Iron X :)

20130624_095741.jpg
20130624_095747.jpg

Some Cheap Simoniz tyre shine products for that ""wet"" look

A recent update that looks okay, CC Bumper bolts, some reason i cant get them up so bear with on that update

Well today has been ""ish"" successful :)

I've had the manifold off - No problems, manifold nuts came off no Studs! SCORE!
Managed to get the old nuts holding scraps of old heat shield off :) Score x2
Managed to remove and clean the threads on both lambda's :)
Give a good clean up to the ""small"" crack, till i looked closer

it's bigger then i thought - goes from about the 3 o'clock position to the 10 o'clock position

Before B.jpg
Before C.jpg
Before D.jpg
Before E.jpg

Anyway - i used a good old knotted wire wheel on an angle grinder - cleaned it up and off to the near local welders

Waited 5mins while he did it, he went all the way around again to seal the cat up :)
Cost a nice and cheerful £20, compared to my last guy who ripped me off...

After A.jpg
After B.jpg

I've stuck some bog standard paint on for now... i know it'll burn off but it'll be fine for a few days only till i can get some VHT paint sorted to Redo the whole manifold :)

Went to check the rest of the stuff in engine way disaster struck (snapping noise)

20130722_141605.jpg

So no bonnet catch for me :( the cable holder snapped)

Ziggy

my cable snapped too :(

Noo my cable is fine, the holder snapped on mine
its a totally bizzare failure, normally the cables do snap

But where the cable clips into place mine has let go
So to open my bonnet i'll need 2x pliers
One to hold, one to pull

Dont see why ebay pullers are soooo expensive when they are about £2 down at my local scrappies - if he had a punto that is :(

Ziggy

Well some good news :)

I found a 2nd hand bonnet catch in the scrap yard for a Massive sum of just £1!

Score! Its fitted and its nice not having a cable to get tangled up with

Anyway

I decided to tackle the underbelly a little bit, doing it in sections as i was low on product, i was cold and wet and i managed to get it in my hair

Only treated the belly, need some cavity wax still todo alot but here the underside that aint treated vs the side that is treated :)

Underside - Not treated.jpg

vs

Underside - Middle treated.jpg

Underside - Near tank.jpg

It looks very neat for me, and clean :)

Should help with this winter :)

Ziggy

what have you used waxol?

Erm yea - its a hammerite version

Some protection is better then NO protection :) plus there is no way i can afford the dintrinol stuff to underseal, but will use there cavity wax tho

Very nice! Would love to do the same to my car....

How did you fixed the rusty spots under the car before you applied the coating? And how many layers of coat did you apply?

Luckily where i started today (basically just the floor on the passenger side) was in good health, no rust, hence why i started there

Washed it with a brush, Went for a ragg around local dual carriageway to blow dry and left it bake in the sun for an hour
Then So far its just had the 1 coat

The centre part where the exhaust is needs a few surface rust treatments
Same for the spare wheel as well
They'll be wire wheels back clean
Rust treatment, Primer + colour then waxyoiled up

The driver side needs more prep work due to fuel lines, needs to drop them down and mask them up
Same with the exhaust section

Ziggy, how do you treat the rust? Using a grinder, sandpaper, or a chemical rust converter? Or maybe both? Just curious since i have no clue how to fix rust on a car.... (or rust in common)

How long do you think the Waxoyl / Hammerite combo is going to last under the car?

Well another busy day

The Backside has been hit with some elbow grease

Rear bumper off
Backbox off
Rear backbox heatshield off - well that weren't attached all to well

And onto scrubbing!!
And one soggy floor = 1 soggy me
Floor.jpg

But underside been cleaned
Underside cleaning.jpg

After using a wire wheel on the little rusty bits
Rust killer
Primer x1
paint x1
+ 1 undercoat = this :)

Underside A.jpg
Underside B.jpg
Underside C.jpg

Spot the missed patch....

Removed the exhaust to get better access, plus modified it to stop it banging everywhere

removed the hanger because that was trapping some undershield that had attacked the chassis rail there and started to rust

So wire wheeled the mount too and and waxy'd that too!

2 bits of waxy stuck together should repel water easily :)

missed that 1 bolt to clean it up - oh well

Had a play without a backbox, the noise is fab!

Anyway to be legal i put it back on :(
