Punto (Mk2/2b) Meet Bumble-Bee

Introduction

Meet Bumble bee
replacing my beloved but now scrapped Mk2 Blue punto

Needs some bits doing to it - but i never leave cars alone anyway :)

So here he is
2004 on a 53 plate
58K
Yellow Active Sport (8v engine)
Alloys - nice grey interior and generally nice tidy motor that needs a little more tlc to make him better :)

Dealer 4 (no plate).jpg

So what has been done so far? Well its got a fairly new backbox - but middle pipe went, replaced under its warrenty

Given him a darn good clean and wash, but lasts all of 5 mins been yellow :(

Pulled all the roof gutter seals out and cleaned the rubbish out from there
Also had the windows screen trim rubber and cleaned all around there :)

what i wanna do is get everything cleaned up, tidy alot up
add a few features i want back in :)

But here we go :)

So i did the roof gutters - they were really really ready.... which means all the cack runs down the rear lights.....

So out they come

1hr later they are all cleaned - dried and waxed to prevent it getting bad anytime soon

problem with these later cars is muck comes through the back sections where the reflectors are as soon as its been on the road a few days,i took mine out and gave them silicone hell to stop this but its still doing it grrrrrrr
oh and who keeps nicking these reflecters anyway as they arent chep at a £10 a go they cant fall out as they are held in with a speed clip so its got to be someone going round the country with a blunt instrument

Not much has happened to be honest

But a little update
I've start doing some basic maintance but that quickly ended and starting a challenging myself with Rusty Stuck on Manifold Cover Bolts - which did come out :O
Only 1 slightly damaged nothing a good blast of heat didnt fix :)

So

Behind the front Grill, was expecting a heap of mud a cack
Not too bad tbh
Before
Behind Grill Before.jpg

Removed after 5mins with no major problems :) And cleaned up
Much better
Behind Grill After.jpg

the bonnet catch, was cacked, and i wanted to see if the bonnet cable was ready for replacing
Luckily - it looks spot on! dirty but good
Bonnet catchs before
Bonnet Catch behind before.jpg
Bonnet catch infront before.jpg

With it cleaned and refitted with Nice Clean Nuts too!
Bonnet Catch Cleaned.jpg

When i did the manifold bolts (cleaned of rust - treated and painted) the Bonnet catch and brake fluid tank nuts also got the same treatment :)

Brake fluid tank nuts.jpg
and yes - copper grease is everywhere, when it comes off - it goes back on with some grease, as you never know when its gonna need to come off

Ordered some new stereo speaker adaptors, my speakers to go back in
Boot light mod is potentially under way soon too! with a nice neat adaptor :)

Well it didnt come with it actually.... Shame i know
it was always meant for the mk2, but i never got to fitting it
So Mk2b got it instead
Fitted but NOT wired up :(

Funds dont allow at this moment in life
Eitherway - its out my room now and isn't been knocked about

so whats with the sub?
i got it too for about 3-4 months:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
and it still is in my room xaxaxaxa
how will you wire it up?
:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

well a few small updates

My Auto door locks have started working -- made me jump at first

But i like it :)

Next
The Front door speakers were replaced with some Alpine E-type speakers dead cheap from scrappies
Work a treat

i'll put a link to the topic later

But major updates is the front brakes are sparkling new :)
Just i feel the pedal has gone quiet soft for my liking.....

Anyway
Pictures later

But next is subwoofer possibly been wired up
Boot light mod
and a replacement of brake fluid
New picks will be up shortly..

I knew when i brought the car the pads did look low - not long left
it had very rusty disc's too

the pads cleaning the disc's up finished the pads off - oh well
So with an afternoon to work on it

I swapped the pads and Disc's and started again for safety Reasons :)

Looks like a typical case of a sliding caliper wearing harder on the leading pad (piston side)

Slowly i'll be cleaning up the car and hopefully making it look better then he already does :)

So Next up - Horn Mounting bracket - meant to be a nice zinc plated look - but eaten away by the road :(
Before
2012-09-02 18.29.11.jpg2012-09-02 18.29.20.jpg
And Afters
2012-09-02 21.15.13.jpg2012-09-02 21.15.27.jpg

Also Noticed my volt's were a little low at times when running
This could be me constantly using the get me home lights....
so i decided to check and clean the earths up and battery terminals

Full of cack - and old grease
Brake cleaner works a treat here :)

After
2012-08-31 17.09.10.jpg 2012-08-31 17.09.24.jpg

Typically - as i undid the gearbox earthing mount - the last clondike put it on SOOO tight the earthing strap moved with it - Snapped it clean off
So luckily i had a Alternator Style connector - so quick cut - clamp - tape up - its fixed :)
+ copper grease to stop it happening again

Well progress is slow to be honest

Time - money - life as usual always get in the way
Plus those annoying old farts who keep saying buy a better car

Anyway
Bubble-bee has slowly changed some more :)

First of all - the tatty ariel
Half black flakey and have dull grey
Of which i couldnt have any of....

So a can on Broom Yellow Holts spray
Its Transformed :D

Well happy - and a good match too!!

Cars had a 60K service :)
Oil was ready - air filter not to bad tbh
But had a good look over the car today, its looking pretty healthy!!
I removed and refitted my rear suspension strut bolts - they came out nice and easy with the breaker bar - Copper grease them back in - Will help when they are ready for replacing that i can easily get them out again

The Fog Has Hit badly recently - lucklly the Punto's lights are Beaming! (ba dum tish!)
2012-10-22 22.21.59.jpg

But this keeps bugging me :(
2012-10-10 22.34.39.jpg

Other news - Rear brakes have been stripped clean - rebuilt
but i still have a weak drum O/S/R, it can easily turn with handbrake on, so suspecting a stuck adjuster or wont adjust properly

Fiat Forum sticker on the rear - but no pik - gotta stick side windows on yet

horn was sprayed - didnt like the result.....

Interior has had a set Seat covers fitted, dont look too bad :)

Last but not least
The car has been downgraded....

More work will be going on soon

The roof marks are extremely hard to remove. Try some AG Paint renovator followed by a good AG Super resin polish. 2 coats of each should do the job and then a nice coat of wax to seal the effort.

Cant say it will remove them completely but will make them alot less viable.

Yea i'll have to get the machine out
Get the SSR Paste and the Menza's final finish out too

The whole car needs detailing, but time is keeping me back :(

Another Little update

Well after S+B pointed out on another thread recently that my sump was in need of some TLC like yesturday

I decided to get on the cold wet floor again and scrub away i do :)

i decided to remove the Exhaust Manifold - Why?
Because those nuts are buggers for rusting and seizing on
Catch it early - like i did it came off with little fight :) Rebuilt and slapped some copper grease on there for good measure

Anyway Sump Before
2012-10-29 11.04.32.jpg

and Sump After
2012-10-29 12.33.09.jpg

By time i had done it was not bad looking
lots of running with wire wheels - Rust killer gel and then a couple of thick layers of Black UHT paint to seal it all up

Looks much better

decided to protect the manifold flange welds - dont want to pay £50 for a welder todo it up again
So a quick lick of paint :) 2012-10-29 12.33.21.jpg

While paint was drying i did several other things

Remove - cleaned up - greased - refitted the Radiator Support Bolts
Removed - cleaned threads - copper greased the threads on the bottom Lamba sensor
Removed several exhaust bracket and bolts - cleaned and painted to maintain life

Examined the gearbox mount - See the seperate thread :)

All in all - i dont like cold floors but its another step for preping this car for life
