500 Gorgeous new lounge :D

Introduction

Picked up my beautiful new 1.2 lounge this morning!! The whole experience has been smooth and the dealer contacted me whenever there was an update. Got free mats and half a tank of petrol too! ( oh, and one of those pound thingys for the trolley with stoneacre on)

He's a tech house grey with black/white chequered cloth seats with black ambience :) very happy with him!!
No seatbelts? Pretty sure that's an offence! :p

Just came back from Belgrade, no one wears a seatbelt and I mean NO ONE! In several taxis when I reached to belt my kids up at the back there were no buckles (apparently, it makes a very uncomfortable ride for the ahem, fuller figure passenger :D) AND its a law that you must wear them!

Wow, strange that they physically don't have them, even though it's the law. Madness!

I went for red with Italian stripes. Looks awesome! ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1402947986.506593.jpg the red in the stripe is different from the paintwork which doesn't show so well in photos. Went for the interscope upgrade as well. Works really well but you need the loudness setting turned on and play digital (via USB) to really appreciate it. Can anyone recommend a bike rack for the back of Nelly?

Me and the OH are taking up biking and it will be Nelly doing the lugging around!

Personally I've never been comfortable using any kind of strap-on bike rack; I'd only consider using a towbar mounted carrier.

Something like this, perhaps - though you'll also need to budget for fitting a towbar.

I know, i've read through all 12 of them! No conclusive answer though. Just wondering whether its possible to fit them in the back with the seats down and front wheels off?

I am insured on my mum's Peugeot Partner Teepee which has roof bars and a tow bar, but its Motability, which means she would either have to come with, or I would have to break the law....

I have yet to buy it, but I would recommend a Saris Bones. They are not cheap, they go for about £150 in Halfords, £120 online / Evans but you can sometimes pick them up cheaper on Ebay or gumtree.

There were several reasons I decided on this one, firstly they come in nice colours including red which will match Luciana nicely :), but also I needed one that curved around the spoiler rather than resting on it or putting weight on it, and this one can be adjusted to fit all different shapes of car, which also means if I change my car, I wont need to buy a different one and also that my son can fit it on his Bravo.

Kirstie, firstly, unless I have misunderstood, you are thinking of a new convertible (500C?). If so, no rear rack will be of use except the tow bar variety.

If I have misunderstood (happens lots!) then my experience is of the Halfords rear rack. It worked just fine, in spite of warnings not to use such a rack with a spoiler fitted car. In actual fact, the straps put very little strain on the spoiler as the strain is taken by plastic "rollers" within the car itself.

My only worry using this rack (which would also apply to all racks, tow bar included) was to the legality of carrying a bike width ways across the back of such a narrow car. How much side overhang is legal/desirable?

I frequently dewheeled my mtb and road bikes and carried them in the back, rear seat down. Easy for one bike, bit of a faff for two. Both wheels have to come off, just one won't do.

Hope the above is helpful/not too depressing!

Thanks for the reply :) I'm not changing my car so it's a lounge, which means I can't put anything on the roof. I was looking at the halfords rear rack but was concerned about the wheels sticking out both sides! But if they fit in the back with seats down that's great, I don't mind a bit of faffing

My finance ends in 3 weeks and I still haven't heard anything! Has anyone else got a 500 through stoneacre and know what to do? I'm looking at trading it for something bigger as I have just moved in to my own home and have a puppy that won't stay small for long :)

I realise this reply is many years after the fact but wondering if you can confirm you got a road bike in the back of a 500c with front and rear wheels of bike removed?
