Panda (Classic) John Dragon Man's 4x4 Sisley

Introduction

Hello!

Well, I have been waiting a long time to do this!

Introducing (Drum roll please!).....

Edit: about half way through the time it took me to get the car on the road it found the name Talon. So everyone Meet:

Great Looking car.. As i am sure you all agree!

It has its Good points:

No Horrid noises in any gear and the 4x4 system works and sounds brilliant! Its a Sisley! And it came with some nice extras such as the light grill covers.

and also nice low mileage.

And it has its bad points... Lots of bad points:

Mid body rust, This is the worst on the drivers side (in the UK) front wing:

The Doors are Rusty.. Ok, i did expect this as it seems to be a common thing on most Fiats over 10-15 years old:

And the other Door, Not as bad.. I may be able to save this side!

"Phantom Electronics" the electronics do what they want to do, when they want to do it. No Switches necessary!

Also the Fuse box now lives here :( That means that a flap has been cut in the pocket :(

The Exhaust is very broken, in multiple parts. even the down pipe!

Lastly and by far the worst, Under body rust. Now its not as bad as it could be. The rear sills on both sides have a small 1 - 2 inch hole in them. No biggy.
I have still yet to remove all the plastic wheel arch liners and have a proper look.
Here's a picture from the front drivers side wheel arch, its only a skin so a easy repair:

A bit of work needs doing to the brakes, pads i think. The fluid needs changing and the drivers side front brake pipe is corroded so i will replace that.

Also the engine needs a good cleaning up, a full on service replacing the water pump, cam belt, tensioner pulley, distributor cap and rotor arm, filters, oil, radiator, coolant and starter motor.

I also need a few things like a locking filler cap, the little clips that hold the air box together, a new boot gas strut and a non damaged back bumper.

Its the car I have always wanted right from when I was a young lad. So you can imagine how I was when I won it on eBay for a grand total of £547. Getting it from Wales To my home town of Derby Cost me £135.

With some love, care and late nights I reckon I can turn it into a cracking motor!

Oh and stay tuned as I will be keeping a Video Log of what I will be doing to the car on Youtube!

This is the video i took just as the car transporter left from delivering it:

I am so very proud to be the owner of a Fiat Panda 4x4 Sisley!

:D:D:D

Edit: this is how Talon looks now:

:eek::cool::cool::cool::yum:

Since then Talon has gained more lights, and now has some blue rust free Seat Marbella doors. I had also converted him to Fuel injection, however the parts i used were old and worn so now it is back on Carburettor.

This thread has its ups and downs but through the years Talon and myself have pulled through.

When you are done reading this thread, be sure to check out the little red scrap yard rescued Seat Marbella thread and also Project Fallout!

Peace all and enjoy the thread, videos and pictures!
i could do magic things with water power.
i wish we had a small stream running through our garden. i would have been 130% (maybe more) self sufficient by now. selling power back to the grid!

you know that every 3 inch of water height flowing at the same rate as a steady tap can produce 1 kilowatt worth of electric? so much potential.

i'd make lego pandas.. sadly all of my lego has gone :( i had like 5 boxes of it.. enough to build 2 life size chairs.

anyhoo back on topic i managed to get the video up of the alternator results. works good!

This really inspiring me to try and understand electrics better. Electrical systems are packing up one after the other on my car. Any tips for a good book to kick start the learning?

Running it without a battery.....any car will run without a battery once started. it is however a great way to do some serious damage to you're more fragile electronics, if you've ever seen the output of an alternator on a scope you'll see its a very dirty output and you can see huge spikes in voltages, if your video the refresh rate of your voltage meter couldn't keep up with the changes in the voltage and much like a DC meter pluged unto the mains would only been seeing the average so you'll not be seeing those huge spikes.

still good work on getting the Punto alternator to fit the panda would probably make a very good upgrade for any panda, the punto electric steering pulls 60amps on full lock i'm sure there isn't anything you'd add to the panda which would need anything like that

Only that a mains pressure out the tap is about 4 bar equivalent to 40m head so you would need to live on a pretty steep hill! A decent sized stream and a head of a meter of 2 is enough for a kw though. My folks used to have a stream like that at the foot of their garden but the council diverted it into a culvert to prevent flooding years ago :(
On the subject of taps it has crossed my mind that areas where the water is not metered why not run a tap permanently with a generator running off it... Just need to tun it off whenever you see the water board turning up looking for leaks.

it would work... but with my energy assessor hat on its highly unethical and huge waste of resources to run the tap constantly - even just leaving a dripping tap dripping and not fixing it adds up to monumental amounts of water over a year which all needs to be sorted and put back in the system. Trust me when i say clean water is gonna be a big challenge in the future is populations keep going up as they do etc.. People in this country are far far to used to water coming from the tap and electric from the wall sockets - i sometimes think we have it far far to easy..

right, rant over, back to cars etc ;)

Ha don't think I was being serious! I'm well versed in the impending/current energy water challenges. CAn take some heart in the cool stuff being worked on though like using wave power for reverse osmosis for desalination. However, although mentioned in jest I wouldn't put the tap-generator (tm) past some folk.

Now where were those cars?

What are you all?
Missing links from the Manhattan project or has Chernobyl got into your veins?
Get back to ze Pandas you naughty boys and stop playing vith ze vind and ze water.!
It causes enough damage to a Fiat anyway.
