Panda (Classic) John Dragon Man's 4x4 Sisley

Introduction

Hello!

Well, I have been waiting a long time to do this!

Introducing (Drum roll please!).....

Edit: about half way through the time it took me to get the car on the road it found the name Talon. So everyone Meet:

Great Looking car.. As i am sure you all agree!

It has its Good points:

No Horrid noises in any gear and the 4x4 system works and sounds brilliant! Its a Sisley! And it came with some nice extras such as the light grill covers.

and also nice low mileage.

And it has its bad points... Lots of bad points:

Mid body rust, This is the worst on the drivers side (in the UK) front wing:

The Doors are Rusty.. Ok, i did expect this as it seems to be a common thing on most Fiats over 10-15 years old:

And the other Door, Not as bad.. I may be able to save this side!

"Phantom Electronics" the electronics do what they want to do, when they want to do it. No Switches necessary!

Also the Fuse box now lives here :( That means that a flap has been cut in the pocket :(

The Exhaust is very broken, in multiple parts. even the down pipe!
attachment.php

Lastly and by far the worst, Under body rust. Now its not as bad as it could be. The rear sills on both sides have a small 1 - 2 inch hole in them. No biggy.
I have still yet to remove all the plastic wheel arch liners and have a proper look.
Here's a picture from the front drivers side wheel arch, its only a skin so a easy repair:

A bit of work needs doing to the brakes, pads i think. The fluid needs changing and the drivers side front brake pipe is corroded so i will replace that.

Also the engine needs a good cleaning up, a full on service replacing the water pump, cam belt, tensioner pulley, distributor cap and rotor arm, filters, oil, radiator, coolant and starter motor.

I also need a few things like a locking filler cap, the little clips that hold the air box together, a new boot gas strut and a non damaged back bumper.

Its the car I have always wanted right from when I was a young lad. So you can imagine how I was when I won it on eBay for a grand total of £547. Getting it from Wales To my home town of Derby Cost me £135.

With some love, care and late nights I reckon I can turn it into a cracking motor!

Oh and stay tuned as I will be keeping a Video Log of what I will be doing to the car on Youtube!

This is the video i took just as the car transporter left from delivering it:

I am so very proud to be the owner of a Fiat Panda 4x4 Sisley!

:D:D:D

Edit: this is how Talon looks now:

:eek::cool::cool::cool::yum:

Since then Talon has gained more lights, and now has some blue rust free Seat Marbella doors. I had also converted him to Fuel injection, however the parts i used were old and worn so now it is back on Carburettor.

This thread has its ups and downs but through the years Talon and myself have pulled through.

When you are done reading this thread, be sure to check out the little red scrap yard rescued Seat Marbella thread and also Project Fallout!

Peace all and enjoy the thread, videos and pictures!
Hey John,

That was one hell of a read, I need to trot though it again as it was a bit of a speed read but hats off my friend, good work!

Last time we spoke you were over on the sei section looking for a panda, and now I see you have this!

Seeing this has made me dig the welder out again! Seriously good work there mate....you never know. Hopefully we will meet again next year in our completed panda's :p

I like the work you've done with this a bit scrappy sisley Dragon Man ! Great amount of love you have towards this little bugger:) I struggle with my trekking to, but I like it :)

greetings from Poland.

good on you! they say anything can be fixed with a big enough hammer, a good enough welder and a small angle grinder!
my panda was pure hammering/welding/grinding fun all the way.

just need doors and for slugworth to drop me off his old wheels next time he heads south and the car can go in for its MOT.

theres still work to be done on the car as you can see from the (now bigger) list. it will be nice however to something i can actually go out in and pick things up in!

have you got a panda thread? be need to see your progress!
Good Luck!

some one told me that they had one, but i forgot who it was :(

should get a video up for what it takes if you have a youtube account that is.. lol be nice to have a walk around your car and see it. ;)

well today i have done a bit more on my car so i can cross that off the list. removed passenger side rear window and painted around it and the pillar.

hmm done a few more things..
the speedo cable is now screwed into the gearbox end, all the plastic wheel arches are now in and i have undersealed everything but the plate that holds the rear drive shaft in place, at some point in time i am going to take it off and re-grease every joint on it. so i will underseal it when i do that.

had a look through all my collection of bolts and not one would fit the damn front mount for the tie rod bar. its held in with 2 bolts for now i just need the third.

4x4 selector now works a treat, popped it back on and thats all good now.

so my job list is looking like this now

Important Jobs to do:

bolt for tie bar suspension
front wiper arm.. that damn wiper arm!
front wiper blade
waxyol pass. sill

non important jobs:

underseal under prop
Grease prop shaft CVs
dash, screw in ALL the screws!
add plastic trim to wheel arches
paint and fit sump guard
repair light grills, paint (plastic dip?) and fit
paint rear drums
Rims.. shock blast and paint

the wiper arm is the next ball ache to look into. i had a play around with it but i just ended up splitting the damn thing.

going to see if i can some how splice an uno wiper mech on to the panda. i must admit i like the idea of a solid bolt on fit than some very silly push on soft to soft metal fit.. dont know what they were thinking when they thought that up.

also looking into the fiat seicento rev counter. i think i can make it work with the non ECU system.
from my bench tests it looks like i put 12v ignition live to the blue wire (pin 1), then earth the black wire (pin 3) and hook up the red with black stripe wire (pin 4) to the earth side of the coil. the yellow wire (pin 2) is for illumination.
ill get it on some crocodile leads and see how it works in the car tomorrow.

ahh yeah, and some kind fellow on here has offered me a parcel shelf :)

all in all its going well..... too well....

The bolts on the front suspension are all metric fine unfortunately rather than the usual, much cheaper metric thread. EBay is the cheapest place for them but I'll have a look and see if I have a spare.

because thats the rust free doors that i have.. and i need mirrors to match/ line up with the bolt holes.

Hi John - Ricambio have them http://www.ricambio.co.uk/69-fiat/62-127--128

The 127 mirrors are the same as the mk1 Panda ones. Oddly I couldn't find them at the time I needed them and bought 2 x Panda ones (from Italy) for the 127. I know they are exactly the same as they even fitted the holes in the 127 door- see piccy (and yes it is raining here!). You just need to check that the Marbella used those mirrors, coz that I'm not sure about!!

it only has 2 holes in straight line at front id say at an estimate 5-8cm between each hole ;) ill measure the hole tomorrow

thanks guys!

hehe mr. Y-10.. streamline??!! thats not 4x4! if i was unable to get the mirrors i was thinking of making abase mount and modding these babies on: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAND-ROVE...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a758fa9b6
now that would be 4x4.. then have a sticker on the back saying, "if you cant see my mirrors, i cant see you" heheh

and cheeky cinqy thats a great idea! make sure to measure from the center of the bolt hole.. that will be great.

If that's the sort of thing you're after why not try a pair of Seat Terra mirrors....
