Panda (Classic) Project Panda-looking Pandas.

Introduction

Ok Gavin here we go ;).

With Gavins (Palio) consent this thread will chart the progress of a little project I'm carrying out for him. It's basically two matching Pandas made to look like Panda bears. These will then be used as company cars by Gavin and his business partner to also promote their new business venture.

Now Gavin is well aware that this could easily turn into being two tacky cartoon style wouldn't be seen dead in cars, so my initial brief stated that my design had to be tasteful and suggest Panda rather than be in your face. Also, there were to be certain engine and interior upgrades to make them more pleasant to live with on a regular basis.

Well I have submitted and had approved a design so it's now full steam ahead with the first car. The basis for this is the white clx I recently picked up from David (Fiat Nutter)............

Second car may be this one that I already had..............

But may not.
Hi. Love the idea of faux fur but it won't be going on these - have enough trouble brushing the cats & don't need a full-sized Panda to groom too.... :D

As Vernon mentioned the project is meant to be subtle, not in your face or cartoony. It will be "hint of Panda" (I nearly said "whiff of Panda" but thought that was a bit unfortunate as a phrase  ), rather than trying to look like a Panda.

Going for the less is more philosophy to start with, but more Pandaesque bits might be added if it doesn't work straight off. We're not quite sure how it will turn out, so I'm looking forward to more pics later too (y)

Gavin.

Any chance of scanning in the design Gavin, or shall we make them wait:p

Ok I give in - here's a scan of the original plan (it's large but will open eventually, if you are using a proper computer at least!). When I've got the artist to sign the original I'll sell prints :D

Right, don't be disappointed that it doesn't look like a furry Panda.

It's "hint of Panda" to be subtle. There may be more black added if it doesn't look right - possibly round the top of the headlights (edge of bonnet & down to the wheelarch to make a Pandaesque "eye"). Also it will have removeable magnetic adverts on the doors, so that will make it more obvious. We are considering little Panda motifs on the rear flank somewhere if it doesn't look Panda enough too. Comments welcome within reason.......... :p

The first car is getting past the planning stage. Without spoiling Vernon's fun, we have the base car, new interior, go-faster engine, and possible wheels...........

Very nice pair of Pandas there. :)

I wouldn't put the 85 engine in the 4x4. By the time you've binned the cat' and balanced the engine with the right air filter and 1.4 injectors 100bhp would be too much for the transfer box to cope with. You need the one from the Mk1 965cc 4x4 as they were built a lot stronger. My Mk2 (1989) 4x4 dropped it guts with a carb' converted 1108 transplant.

Well worth looking after as the Pandas are getting rarer now and will soon be making 126 or even 500 money for a decent 4x4.

All the best Rob
