Punto (Mk2/2b) Joshhh Mk2b Punto "Project".

Introduction

Hello FiatForum!
Just thought start this project thread so you guys can see what im doing to my car and to gain some feedback on what i should/shouldn't do.
So to start off, i brought this baby about 3 months ago (Jan 2012). So after recovering from the crippling deposit for insurance, i can finally start to mod my car out (y)

When i brought it, there was some noticable damage to the rear bumper and the driver's side rear quater panel, where someone had hit it and it had been poorly repaired (Shoddy paintjob, so lots of rust. Fantastic.

)

So first off, i got it home and gave it a good clean out, where i found a boots loyality card and a drumstick lolly.

So once i had it all cleaned up, there was a niggling problem, THOSE TRIMS.

Yeah i know they are standard, or "stock" but Look at them! I truely hated them with a passion.

So, got myself over to halfords and brought some High Enamal Matte Black Paint for pretty cheap and then brought some Trims from eBay for £30

So, SOOOO much better. Then, shortly after i brought some things online.

Added some stickers here and there:

So i sat there, looking at my car, admiring my work so far, and then i noticed those "Active" badges under the side repeaters. They had to go.

So got some fishing wire and some WD40 (And a hairdryer) and removed those.

BOOM.

Then i got a bit too happy with how easy that was and removed "Punto" from the back. (Yes i know, i deserve a smack from every FF user

)

So, thats my car's story so far, the plans ive got are:

- Flyeye tint the Rear lights
- Change headlight colours
- Sportex Exhaust System (Current one sounds like a rusty fart)

So please, feel free on commenting about my car, or what you think i should do

So, it's finally time to get rid of that horrible exhaust.
The backbox had a horrible rattle at EXACTLY 2000rpm and i brought this exhaust a while back but never got round to mounting it, till today (y)

So, i first cleaned the new baby up and WD40'ed the bolts and nuts on the old exhaust.

Urgh, so rusty and horrible.

So me and my mate spent a few hours trying to get rid of the old one, managed to completely remove the old backbox and pipe. :slayer:
A bit of cleaning around the pipe, slot the new pipe in, exhaust putty'ed everything and tightened that clamp tighter than i think a bolt has ever went.

Looks slightly tilted? Well, it is, but that's because i didn't want it resting against the bumper and the rubber mount seemed happier about it too (y)

(That's my mate mounting the bumper back on )

Way better. (y):slayer:

And the sound? Wow, so beefy and has a beautiful purr to it when idle. Around 1000-2500 revs, it sounds so nice, past that, it just roars :p
I'll post a video of it tomorrow if i get some time spare. But i noticed a small blow coming from the front, so im going to patch that up tomorrow aswell (y)

Oh yeah, i replaced the H7 bulbs with some Bright White ones (Ice), but the Main Beams didn't fit.

So im waiting on the returns. Grrr.

A bit of sorry news.

When the snow rolled around i found myself pretty worried about driving. (I never really drove in the snow/ice in my life)
On the way home from work, i was driving up a road with a bit of a sharp bend at the top, i slowed down (even more) as a van come down the hill.
He then thought his side of the road wasn't good enough and instead, wanted the side I WAS ON. After ragging the wheel as fast as i could to avoid him, i noticed i was going to go straight into a bush, so i turned the other direction and found myself hitting the curb, full force.
But no, no-one was hit or damaged. (the car survived, somewhat.)

I managed to completely trash a wheel. Liked, full on dead, which i managed to drive home on, surprisingly. (About 2 miles from when it happened)

I then went out to a local Tyre place, got the wheel replaced and the car wheels realigned. With no lasting damage, thank christ.

This was kinda the last straw with this car, i mean, its been lovely. But i don't think ill be sticking with the car next month.

So i painted up.

Blacked up now bro.

Fixed my Heater Knob, Gear Knob, Rocker Cover Gasket made it a bit shiny.

Looking to sell the motor within the next few weeks, if you're intrested, check the history and hit us up on FF. Cheers fellas!

Shame to hear that buddy. There are some idiots out on the road. How come you're deciding to sell it though? Just because of that incident or something else?

Ash.

Hello mate! It wasn't just because of the incident. I just think the little 60bhp engine just isn't enough. (n)
I love messing and modding my car, but there's limited performance mods you can do without choking out the MPG or power.
And as for visual modifications, there's not much i can do without getting the "boy racer" image.

I just think i had my time with this car, but its not gone yet! :D

Sorry to hear that man, hope the karma gets the van driver, just for being a complete kn**ber. Your plans sounded good but, when it's time to move on, it's time to move on.

I have to ask, what do you think would have happened had you been in a bigger or more powerful car ? do you think you would have sailed passed with no issues or the more powerful engine would have some how afforded you more grip?

Chalk it down to experience everyone has a bump or two in their first years of driving its all part of learning, just consider yourself lucky it could have been a lot worse.

the way to deal with these issues isn't to go out and buy a more powerful car especially if you lack the experience

No, it's nothing to do with more power. Where did I say anything about having more power would of helped? No matter what I would of been in it would of happened. It just shook me a bit.

Either way, I wanted a new car before that, it was just a coincidence that this happened as I was looking.
