Stilo My 1.2 3 door Stilo.

Introduction

It's not much I know, it has been rather unreliable which has prevented me from doing what I want with it. But today I decided to tidy up my engine bay a bit, especially the grotty cylinder head! I felt proud of the results of my labor and thought I'd share it with the rest of you forum go-ers :)

Re: My 1.2 3 door Stilo

Any scrappies near you? I think undertrays were standard fit.
I also advise you NOT to get one from the dealers. They tried charging me nigh on £250 fitted for one on my old wagon!
One more thing, the bolts/screws were a b*stard to undo and a lot of them have had the threads knackered up so watch for that one.

Re: My 1.2 3 door Stilo

Nice work Mark, great job! To keep it looking like that, why not invest in an undertray to keep all the road muck out of your engine bay?

Thanks man! Yeah I've looked into getting one for it, but it just seems like too much expense for what it is:

55 quid with another 30 odd on top for postage, not worth it in my opinion, scrappys will be my first port of call but even at that if it's not free of any cracks I probably won't go for it :(

Re: My 1.2 3 door Stilo

i wish mine had as much room under the bonnet as yours does! you could swing a dozen cats around in there! :D great work on the engine, i'm a stickler for a clean motor (y)

Yes but you have much more power gadgemyster

Thanks man it's been in desperate need of a clean up since I got it back in March!

P.s can anyone tell me what the red knob does on the end of the fuel rail above he oil cap? I assume it's some sort of pressure relief knob or something, if anyone knows that would be good, just one of those things I'm curious about

Re: My 1.2 3 door Stilo

that is where to connect a fuel pressure gauge, they are normally fitted on the end of the fuel rail

Ah right klkl thanks nikki :)

MEP - just curious :p seems obvious what it does now though

While I'm at it here's my to do list now: Fit a new rocker cover gastket, new spark plugs and ignition coils, new full stainless exhaust Inc manifold, larger bore throttle body (1.4 or 1.6), performance air filter, might fit uprated HT leads as the current ones look **** and probably are ****. After that I'll be see-sawing over a remap to get the full potential out of it (be it big or small). But the coils, gasket and exhaust are the main priority, I'll be keeping this thread going with updates and photos showing how she is coming along, hope to have it up and running at the end of the month :)

Re: My 1.2 3 door Stilo

Erm you don't have HT leads Mark. With a coil pack on each plug, the step up in voltage takes place in the coil, so the lead is LT, not HT...and therefore most unlikley to need replacing.

Ah right thanks for that Yellow Peril, I didn't know that - I just made the assumption that the leads going to the coils were HT leads - In fact what you say makes sense cos the leads aren't nearly insulated enough to be HT leads! silly me :bang: Though they could do with having the crappy plastic tubing replaced with nice rubber hosing or something - mines are cracking and falling apart!

One thing I forgot to bring up; I noticed this "extra" wiring plug behind the fuel rail a couple of days and completely forgot about it, I just assume it's a spare plug assuming different models/engines use similar wiring looms to each other and so this one doesn't get used on the 1.2 but perhaps the 1.4 or 1.6? Just my guess, but if anyone knows what it's for and if it's actualy meant to be connected to something on my car then please let me know, I can't find anywhere for it to connect to...

Re: My 1.2 3 door Stilo

Does your 1.2 have AC? Might be for the compressor

My 1.4 has all the plastic insulation bits slowly cracking away also :(

Nope it's an Active don't think they came with AC? But mine doesn't have it anyway, I can't seem to find any plugs for it under the bonnet

They really should have used a better plastic than they did, suppose after nearly 10 years it's bound be a bit worse for wear (n) fit some nice new rubber insulation (y)

Re: My 1.2 3 door Stilo

A wee "update" on my Stilo - still waiting on my new manifold; going to wait till the end of next week when I get paid and will then order one of John Ashleys punto 1.2 4:2:1 manifolds. After that I need to geta new ignition coil and charge the battery - then she'll be raring to go!

Today I felt like doing a bit of cleaning hat I otherwise would most likely ignore if the Stilo was running - plus the fact I'd finished working nightshift and couldn't be arsed sleeping through the day lol

I cleaned up the front grill area and removed the bonnet latch to clean, then clean the underside of the bonnet and removed the padding that was there. Think it looks that little bit more presentable now. what do yous think? It will be all the more worthwhile when she's running!

Re: My 1.2 3 door Stilo

Another wee update on what I've been doing to Spinelli (that's her new name ;)). I attempted to remove the complete front end off my car tp clean it all up and was then going to remove the manifold, but the last 2 torks screws weren't shifting ( and daylight is still in small numbers!) so I moved onto removing my manifold.

The reason I had to remove it was during the 2nd misfire I've experienced with her the exhaust sheared itself off just before the 2nd lambda sensor - which was good in a way as the sensor and proceeding cable and wiring plug kept it just high enough to not scrape the ground lmao.

I've now got her sitting on 2 front axle stands and removed both front wheels and removed all the plastic wheelarch and engine bay guards as mine a ****e lol I'll get pics of them tomorrow. I'm going to clean the absolute **** out of the chassis beams and everywhere I can get to while te plastic guards are off - I'm actually going to buy new ones (and the under engine one to protect that new shiny manifold I'll be getting ;))

So with the manifold off it's now time to wait for payday so I can phone up Mr John Ashley and request one of his Punto 1.2 performance manifolds, then the new ignition coil and Spinelli is good to go! I still plan on adding either a 1.4 or 1.6 throttle body and a pipercross viper induction kit with custom silicone piping in place of the ****ey black pipe I've got! After that she'll need lowered then she's being left alone for a while! Here's some pics...
