I think also, it may be down to luck at when your purchase insurance. Crazy I know but last February I rang to insure my old Corsa B and they told me £2100, I rang in March and quoted me £1199. I remember it due to being so confused :S

Dont forget the value of the car can affect it too

after 1 years no claims and no points it drops around 30% , well its going to for me so its quite good.

however its so high because of the people that dont insure there car not because of the ones that do :/

Im 18 atm almost 1 years no claims, my insurance is 3.2 k a year

I Have a decent payed job luckyly in this climat so i got a quote on a 1.9 mjet , 3.8k a year (thats with 1 years no claims)

I cant win, its gonna be 1.2's untill im like 40 lol

Average insurance has supposedly gone up 40% too.:(

Dude thats stupid money!! Wont Admiral/Elephant insure you cheaply??

Im 20 with 2yrs NCB driving a 1.8l Astra Coupe (insurance group 11) for less than £1k!

How can a Punto cost more than that! its outrageous...

Nope, tried them. It is totally stupid!

That does affect it but the value went us £2K and price came down £100.

(I should mention I live on the doorstep of Lowedges - ultimate car crime hell.)

Hey Dom,
Sounds stupid but have you looked at Ikube for your insurance?
You have a curfew on your car (11pm - 5am) and they "fine" you £98 if you drive after that time.
Ive got a 1.2 8v active (07 reg) and Im only paying £1700 for my first year fully comp with all the trimmings!(curt car/windsheeld ect)

Plus when your done you can keep the gps tracker they put in your car :D

Funny you should say that..

Ikube was my previous insurers for my first year and all was good and paid £1999 on my Fiat Punto 2004. They've changed underwriters and now won't quote for me anymore because they're coming up with quotes well over £10K.

Sorry but still a rip-off!!

Just tried an experiment. I got a quote on 200k's worth of Ferrari 458 italia and that came out at £3900 for the year. Hardly seems fair you have to pay around half that for a 1.2 Fiat and you can only use it at night!!

As another little comparison I can insure an 80k Maserari GranTurismo for £1267. Now I know I'm not as young as you guys but I'm hardly in my 40's with a mortgage and 2.5 children. I'm prob less than 8 years older.

Not having a go but insurance companies make me sick!:yuck:

Insurance companies really make me sick too, they're all as bad as each other!

Dom,

Repeating what many others have said but your insurance is ridiculous!
I have just turned 19, with no NCD and under 2 years driving experience, yet my GP Sporting 1.4 T-Jet is insured for £1100!

I'm almost certain you should be able to get it down from your current amount, although I agree with previous comments that a big proportion does depend on postcode.

I managed to lower my insurance by almost 40% by adding named drivers with a load of driving experience and a full NCD. I added my mum and aunty, who both have over 15 years NCD and have been driving for 30+ years.
That took it down from about £1700 to the current amount of £1100, even though it is unlikely they will drive the car much at all.

That insurance company was elephant by the way.
Thats the main tip I can offer, other than that I'm still in shock at how much you are paying!

Hi,

I have tried absolutely everything to get it down and can't.

Elephant are ignorant sods that never seem to answer the phone.

Sorry, I think I must have worded that one wrong! haha I can drive all day after 5am and up until 11pm. As I work full time I dont find it restricting me that much tbh, the only time it bothers me is if I wanna go out to a party or a concert that finishes after 11 :/

Oh wel.... 3 more months and Ill be part ex'ing the punto and scrounging more money from the bank of mum and dad for the insurnace on a New fiesta Zetec S :D

Cheers

I know what you meant Tom.:p I had the policy last year and had no problems with it tbh.

Dom

haha, just by the sound of things some people didnt quite understand it! haha
How are you getting on with your new ride then?
Decided to keep it 100% OEM forever?
x

Much better than the Mk2b. Not sure tbh.

On the subject of iKube, I've changed my mind. Their customer service is absolutely appauling.

I traded the Punto in for the Grande Punto at a garage.
Phoned iKube and told them that they needed to collect the tracker from there etc etc, they.
They didn't go and the dealer phoned me to ask why.
I then called iKube and they said they'd go the next day.
Dealer phoned me again and said no-one had been.
Called iKube again the next day or so and they said they'd been out and collected it.
Then iKube text me to arrange an appointment to remove it....
So I called them again and said 'WTF' politely but in a pissed off voice, they said they would chase it and let me know.
They didn't let me know.
They then called to arrange an appointment to remove the tracker...
I asked to speak to the manager and was told they would call the next day, they didn't.
So I called the day after and they said they would sort it and not contact me again.

Let's see if that happens.

Dom

haha, I know what you mean!
When I had my tracker fitted I had to get them to come to where I work and I got a phone call from the bloke on a blocked number saying he was 10 minutes away and that I should be waiting. So there I was waiting for him like a lemon in a car park ( trying not to look shifty) and he arrived 10 minutes later.
After it was installed (about 3 days) I got call from Ikube asking if I had had any problems with the tracker, obviously nothing had gone wrong. But then 2 days after this they rang me asking me when I would like to get my tracker fitted?!?!?! They obviously didnt realise I had already had it fitted!
Took about half an hour to make them understand that I already had the damn box fitted!

Can tell there from Peterborough ;)

Even the manager couldn't explain what had happened though!
