Punto (Mk1) Rawbs Shed.

Introduction

After searching for weeks for a suitable Mk1 Sporting Punto and finding nothing but lemons and winning a HGT Punto on eBay... (not being able to insure it) I decided I had enough of finding crap and wanted something genuine.

Now in all honesty, while I was looking for Sportings I was kicking myself in the face after not being able to buy Misseys Sporting a couple of months ago.

I wanted something that was genuine, low ish miles. Well looked after but not too tidy.

Here comes my 3rd Punto. My second 60 and my second Green Punto.

(excuse the lack of photos and the poor quality)

The basics -
Dents everywhere.
54k Mileage, with full service history.
Cambelt change 5k ago.
1 Owner since new.

It ticked the boxes I needed.

After first inspections, It needed a new cam cover gasket and a new clutch servo as both were leaking.

The cam gasket was done today and I cleaned it up after hours of faffing around.

The state before:

The moderately clean finished product:

I don't know why I posted a thread, but in all honesty I can't see it getting updated much as I don't like taking photos of a Fiat. My neighbours give me funny looks...

Not sure on updates, perhaps some sideskirts if I can find any, maybe some suitable alloys and some front sporting springs/dampers as theses are a bit spongy.

But apart from using it and enjoying it, I can't see much reason to change a cheap car. (y)

P.s. - Why are the pictures small?
Re: Rawbs Shed...

not bad man, how did you get that cover so shiny! ive tryed afew things but with no joy still looks grotty!

I used brillo pad to get the majority of the grime off because my entire collection of degreasants did nothing, I then used some autosol and polished it up a bit. I spent 2 hours on it though

The most annoying part was the cambelt side of the cover where the oil filler is, right pain in the ass getting into those corners.

I could get it much cleaner if I got out the dremel and metal polishing bits. (y) Didn't want to go over the top though

Re: Rawbs Shed...

It looks nice in the picture, i cant see any dents? pic in the light please?

are you fond of any upgrades like l.e.d lights and stuff? or is it strictly stock

Re: Rawbs Shed...

looking good mate :) i think iv still got a few spair bits for these SPI ones if you need owt you know where to find me ;)

Cheers mate, I know where you are :) could do with a new breather hose as mines snapped. :( You got one?

The picture is to hide the dents, I will get a few more photos in the light and on the bad side, it's not pretty.

Im all for modifying cars. But at the moment this car is managing 50mpg easily and im paying £42 a month insurance. So it's cheap for me, I have enough saved away for my next car and a decent project on the side so I think the only thing this will see is perhaps uprated springs and some 16/15 inch alloys. (y)

Re: Rawbs Shed...

how did you take the thing off mate? really want to do mine

Haha i love taking pics of my pride and joy, but alas, i get the odd looks, mostly when i stand right next to my car for a close up shot

I just let the photos do the talking(y)

just unbolt the 4 bolts, make sure the gasket is changed - it only costs about £4/£5, take the oil filler cover off and you've got it off. Very simple to do.

The thing is, it's far from my pride and joy, it might be a fiat so that's a bonus for me, but it's far from perfect so I wont go overboard on treating it too nicely, it normally comes back to hit me in the face when I do so (headgaskets and the like).

I need to learn how to take photos of paint correction, then I will have plenty of other photos :)

lol my breather hose snapped when i stripped the engine aswel they just made like that...go to scrappers n just cut off some coolant pipe off the same size does the job :)

I Have Recently Bought A Very Similar Car To This, Black 5 Door sx 60 was a t reg b4 its import to spain....same as you it needs rocker cover gasket doin and has a few dents n scrapes but is an orite first car to run around in for a year or so

i got a 1.6 mk1 sporting. I love it to bits as its pretty quick but due to the heavy right foot it gets through a bit of petrol. And with just getting a new house its not the most economical. I wanna get summat smaller (engine) but i love the way it drives so id miss it.

haha, didn't take you a long time to get a new one? anyway that's great news, and as for the changes, there will be time (y) glad you're back on the punto drivers wagon :D

Was awaiting a comment from you! Just had to get another one.
The car is going really well, engine is starting to loosen up and it's revving easier now. My brother has decided he wants to learn to drive in it... So im on the lookout for a Sporting or another good example.

The car is going to be at Auto Italia Gaydon on the 11th, not that it'll attract a crowd. But it'll be there non the less.

Im going out in about 10 minutes after a bite of lunch to do some panel beating on the rear drivers side arch - It's going to take hours, pictures will be uploaded later (y)
