Multipla The Toad.

Introduction

So after owning all sorts of stuff from Buicks to Polos I've finally lost the plot and purchased a "bug eye" Multipla. It's a 110 JTD ELX with only 35k miles but it's a bit (err very) rough around the edges. The colour is horrid, actually I've always hated all Multiplas so it was an interesting choice. Anyway I presume you're not after my life story.

For me this is a second car so it's not about performance (obviously), it's about comfort and practicality. We'll see how long that lasts. I am very tempted to slam it, which wouldn't be comfy or practical at all. But it would look sooo right. I think it will eventually end up on airbags, I dont think I could ever go back to creeping over speedbumps after the amount of fun I've had this week.

Anyway, I've not done much to it yet and I've not got much money so it's a work in progress.

Here is a chop I did of the for sale pic to whet your appetite:

So sadly the missus has peed on the bonfire and insists she would rather go for black and not grey. So we've not even started yet and the plans are already out of the window!

Day 1:

Love this car already. Double electric sunroof, really comfy, good on fuel, should have done this ages ago.

Added some stickers and copious amounts of airfresheners (some kid has puked in the back), also added some handcuffs hanging from the rear bumper and hammered the hell out of some of the dents.

Aww yeah, stickers. Now I'm cool.

Day 2:

Which after a bit of cheeky 5-up speedbump action at high speeds lasted around 3 days... :D

Must say I like it much more now that it's broken, much more character.

Then after about 5 days some more parts started showing up

Bosch flatblade wipers (yaaay I can seeeee)

K&N filter (again only because the old one was cack)

Floor mats (already sporting a chunk of poo)

All glory to the hypnotoad

Word up Fiat enthusiasts.

So last weekend was awesome. Thought I'd share some pictures.

First this happened:

Yes, I drew some bewbies on my bumper. Athankyou.

So once I'd done that, I attacked it with a holesaw and a dremel. Alas, no pics of this bit.

A mate of mine had a powerflow backbox lying around, said it could be mine for £15. I had a moment of weakness.

That'll do

After a few hours it was on and looking sweet. It did seem to move to the left a little after we'd lined it up and got it on so I'll have to play with the mounts a bit in the next few weeks. Obviously it's hard mounted so I'll try unbolting it, pushing it back in the middle and tightening them back up again.

Anyway, that was on Saturday.

On Sunday, we went to the beach.

As you can tell, these are not my usual mobile phone shots. There were a few SLRs in attendance (y) anyway, it was an awesome weekend and I'n dead chuffed with my new found burble.

In other news i has new battery. Bosch 5 year jobbie. Skint now :(

Re: All glory to the hypnotoad

cool pix. how did you route the exhaust in the middle when the spare is there? :/

The poxy spare winch thingy was always broken, when I bought the car it had a space saver in the boot. I just unbolted the winch jobbie and weighed it in ages ago!

The exhaust also means I can kiss goodbye to the tow bar I have sitting in the garage! We were looking at doing a side exit but I didn't want to notch the outer chassis rail in case it meant an IVA later.

Really like it, the new wheels are perfect (y) I do think you should get another bonnet to replace the dinged one.

Yeah I was watching one on ebay but after delivery the cheapest I've found went for £45 (sold now). I really dont have that money and although i could probably come up with it I cant really justify it. I'm sure she'll get a bonnet soon enough - actually I'd love an abarth front bumper too ;)

Thanks for the compliments guys

shame you cant get carbon style bonnets. :) looks mint as it is but theres allways room for improvement aint they ;)

:D

That pic makes it look better than it was, the paint was horrible but NO DENTS (y)

Check out this humungous gouge yo:

IMAG06091.jpg

That'll need some filler then

IMAG0611.jpg

Once I filled that humungous gouge i realised that every one of the stonechips was going to do the same. I was never going to sand the f***er down to bare metal but I thought I might as well fill in the stonechips so it'll be as smooth as possible.

That got it looking like this:

IMAG06141.jpg

Then I got out the roller and covered it in bubbles

IMAG0616.jpg

 the bubbles do burst eventually, they are there because I thinned the paint a little too much - but got decent coverage and no runs. I left it to dry overnight, came back the next day and guess what - still wet lol. It's freezing in the garage and not really a great time of year to paint stuff. Anyway, I've sloshed another coat on since then and it should be dry enough to move into the house soon so I can get the Polo into the garage, I hate leaving it outside.

Just a matter of bolting it on next weekend

Brought the bonnet inside last night, pretty much dry but still a bit tacky. The Missus loves seeing more car parts come in to the house so it really made her day ;) It's f'ing HUGE!

That reminds me I had some pics of the refurb I did on the Zenders that aren't in here. It was quite amusing sitting in the living room watching telly with SWMBO in front of four drying alloy wheels :D

Anyhoo, surprisingly it's come out quite nicely, the bubbles in the pic above didn't really make it too lumpy once it was dry.

IMAG06202.jpg

Quite pleased with that. Only trouble is that the rest of the car is painted so badly this'll show it all up!

Next on the list I need to sort out some new brake pads (boring I know), get the snow tyres back on soon and if I can find a suitable lump of metal lying around I'll do the EGR delete I've been meaning to do for ages.

Stay tuned for moar stupidity. :slayer:

So I've noticed a bit of a whistling noise from the turbo lately - although it's only when on full boost I noticed when I did the exhaust that it's passing a little oil, so instead of throwing more money at this car I've decided to replace it with something else.

It's got a load of great parts on it, I've replaced quite a bit that doesn't even appear in this thread (in fact I just bought wiper blades, oil and filter this week) but I know that because I've roller painted it it's not worth anything.

I'm expecting to have to scrap it so if someone can come up with £450 it's theirs - this is on the three spokes with £200 worth of barely used snow tyres. MOT till March. Tax till September. I reckon you'd get that money back from the engine, tax disc, wheels and tyres alone. I'll even chuck in some lowering springs :D

I'm fully expecting to weigh it in but it would be great if someone wants to keep it on the road. It's only done 60k.

In other news, I test drove a 100hp today so will more than likely be staying on the forum. :D

Sold

Now sold, got £400 for it. Can't believe anyone wanted it to be honest! The new owner has some great plans for it so I'll post some pics in here once he's got it lowered on 17s and repainted.

Doing tip and scrappie runs today before the new owner picks it up on Thursday.

Sad to see it go - it was one of the best cars I've owned.
