Tempra 1.6 S: Restoration

Introduction

Hi all! :)

As some of you may know, this car means the world to me. It has been in the family since 1999 and in that time it was used as a taxi, for road trips all over Ireland, I learned to drive in it at the age of 12 and crashed it in that order... :p

After the minor shunt, it was repaired by us and parked up as we had got a relatively new car at the time. I kept working on it and after the clutch got stuck, it stayed in the same place for 3 years, weeds growing all around it  (its even on google images in the same position 2 years ago)

Untill this evening (y)

Now this will be a gradual restoration as I have a lot of other stuff to work on, some being a priority with a set deadline... But its now in a place where its safe, dry and I can work on it :)

Enough yap, picture time (y)

First, a very depressing site

On google maps its in the same position, weeds all around it

However, after a quick check around the bay and a battery put in...

It fires up like it was stopped 5 minutes ago. Faultless reliability, possibly the most reliable car of all time :D:D:D
Image0930.jpg

And all the lights work too (y)
Image09321.jpg

Even the radio works!!!
Image0933.jpg

But a sign of the times must persist... :D
Image0934.jpg

Just an example of how long its been here
Image0935.jpg

Now as the clutch is stuck, it needed help moving foreward
Image0936.jpg

Will anything ever grow there again? :p

Timewarp time, its just as I remembered it all those years ago;)
Image0937.jpg

And back where it belongs :D
Image0938.jpg

Don't see this advertised these days...
Image0939.jpg

Finally, its new place in the yard, a famous parking place (y)
Image0940.jpg

Look familiar? :p

And look how they turned out (y)

As I said at the beginning this will be restored over time. My priority here is the sticky clutch, sort that first. Ooh and a major clean :D

I'll see if I can dig out some nostalgic photos, stay tuned! :)

Wow! Talk about reliable. Stand a car for a just a year these days and you've got no hope of it starting ever again!!
Good luck with the restoration & have fun :)

Hello! I'm new in the Fiat Forum! I see you have a beautiful Tempra under restoration! It's a great thing to see someone that takes care of his Tempra, since they are becoming extremely rare! I'm a Tempra owner myself, I have a 1993 1.6 SX sedan with 140.000 miles on the clock and not a single fault ever, I still have the original clutch and never replaced any vital part!!! She's an incredible car :D

I also own a RHD Tempra, a 1996 1.6 S with 59.000 miles and she's perfect, her name is "Tempra Special", made for the 2010 Scally Rally, a unique piece of art!!!

However, if you're under restoration with your car and you need any part that is not available there in Ireland, just let me know and I can help you find it! We have some parts, me and my friend scraped a Tempra SW last year (sigh) and we have something left in the box!!! If you want to contact me, here's my email; [email protected]

:) Great to see someone that loves the Tempra in Ireland, I guess you are the first, my best wishes for your restoration!

Cheers for the lovely comments! :D

While I may not have as much time with this car as some of the others, I do what I can when I can :)

Like today for example...
Image1559.jpg

Because of where it is, it's in a prime location for stuff near the garage...
Image1560.jpg

Anyone from Ireland will know that this car has been off the road a while...
Image1569.jpg

A little cleaning commenced
Image1563.jpg

And the door jams cleaned too :)
Image1568.jpg

Onto the boot...
Image1564.jpg

I'd been looking for this!
Image1565.jpg

And a surprise to many lurks behind...
Image1566.jpg

LPG (y)

Finally we get the boot clear enough to see this once again :)
Image1567.jpg

I had to source that toolkit years ago, was a pain!

So if I need new doors, where do I go to get them?
Image15611.jpg

And bodyparts...?

So now we move onto these nostalgic photos I dug out :)

Yes the quality is rubbish on some!

Heres when I crashed it in 2005

And lastly, how I'd like to see it once more :)

Keep watching! (y)

So, you have about 6-7 cars aaaaaaand a junkyard... Life is so unfair :(

I have 8 cars (add the Bravo van to make it 9), my dad has 6 cars, 2 vans, an ex-MOD Land Rover and a tractor. My mam has 2 cars. Out of all those, just 2 vans, the tractor and 8 cars work, the rest are spares, storage or graveyard material... Despite all the vehicles, theres still room to manoeuvre :)

The record stands at over 20 cars around the house in 2000

I have 5 but no field, its a right arse getting any of them out apart from whatever is at the front of the drive (usually my van), I am so envious of the space you have Mal.

Theres a flip side to that... There should be alot more space but we won't go into what happened there... If we had the room, there would be even more cars, vans and jeeps (y) literally a mini museum! Which I suppose is the way its heading at the mo, in the yard every evening is 6 cars and the Daily van (y)

Would there be an interest of what else is around the house by means of one pic each? :D

well this is best i can do at getting the lot in 1 picture... you can see my cinq and sei hiding behind the van, and punto gt and AMG CLK in foreground. Huggy-Benz my Vito taking centre stage :)

PS>My dad has taken my stilo to Slovakia but left his merc on my drive, normally there would be a stilo estate there instead.

edit: i do have a cover for the merc so it doesn't get covered in leaves (there's a tree just out of shot) but not had chance to wash it so i can put it on yet :(

Fiats 1.6 engine in general seems to be very resistant to standing still, even the starters work pretty nicely after left, i'd certainly give my Marea an award for that haha, its nice to see older cars kept in good shape, its a reminder to the new cars the standard they have to beat ;).

Thaks! I have a '97, Tempra S.W., 1.6 carb, so I'm curious how this will develope! :)
