Stilo Enzo, my shumey GP.

Introduction

now i've finally got some decent photos of Enzo which don't have my house in the background, i can now show my him off in all his glory! ........so here he is, a 2006 stilo schumacher GP, number 186. He's almost standard only for a few areas. The suspension been further lowerd with Ebach springs, 8mm spacers at the rear, 5mm at the front, red stuff front and rear pads, goodridge braided brake hoses, a GSR induction pipe, and a momo duke gear knob.
standard power for this car is 170BHP, however, being an ex-forum members car, i do have photographic evidence of it running at 204BHP due to a re-map but can't comform that it is still running this modifcation......booooooo:p

my to do list is as follows.... a front strut brace, a K&N cone filter, removal of the 2nd cat and replace with a new system, and sort the tunes out with a new head unit and base bin in the boot. There are no external "mods" in the pipe line

Hi
I've been thinking about getting a air filter upgrade kit for a while, could you tell me what - if any improvements you noticed?
Your doing a top job, love the seats!

To add a pic to your profile, once your logged in :

>Click on your profile
>Once you are on on your home page click "customize profile"
>A new page will open and long tab on the left hand side of the page will appear, click on the "Edit you profile picture"
>Then click on "choose file" and upload a pic, once uploaded you will need to tick a "box" to confirm that you want to add it on to your profile I believe.

There are some image formats which you are not able to upload and use in the Forum domain, try to use a Jpeg (JPG) image file, you will have no probs with this file format.

Hope this helps bud :)

hey bud, after alot of debating on wether to fit a K&N 57i or a BMC style one, or a custom made one..... i ended up fitting a K&N pannel filter instead? lol

i came to this decision because i was getting alot of negitive feedback as to wether the cone filters were any good for the 2.4. some were saying they had no trouble with them but alot were saying that they created flat spots which kinda defeated the object of having one so i opted for the pannel style filter instead? boring i know but to be honest at 35 quid, it does do the job very well, and there an excellent filter too! alot less restrictive that the old paper ones (y)

Thanks! Think you went down the right route as i've seen various different makes of vehicle suffer with air flow meter problems with cone filters.

Erm not quite everyone. I'm sure there was a lot of posting a long time ago about all sorts of engine issues when GSRs were fitted. May have all been sorted out, I'm not sure...

Yes absolutely right there Phil

I do not have the full expertise over the specific technical data but I do recall when reading up on the old Forum threads that the GSR kits caused issues to the MAF sensor. I believe one former member did even attempt to replace the 2.4 MAF to accommodate the GSR induction kit, cant remember what happened in the end but for me, its far to much hassle for little gain unless you would be willing to run a fully converted set up :)

mmmm maybe thats why he replaced the cone filter with the standard air box? because it was unreliable? but like u say, way too much hastle for vary little gain..... not to mention the price? i mean its around £90 for a 57i, £about £200 for a BMC and about £250 for a K&N typoon?? and really, the pannel filter - boring as it looks - does the trick nicely for 35 quid? plus it never needs placing, just cleaning from time to time

Totally mate, the price does not even compare and the other thing which is also a downside is that the 2.4 engine bay gets too hot and any type of silicone induction kit pipe work will conduct too much heat in to the engine. Hot air from what I have been told, specifically decreases the torque of an engine, as its know hot air is not good for performance increases, cold and cool is the way it needs to be.

Totally with you gadge mate, stuff the induction kits for real and simply install an upgraded performance air box filter, safe and easy option and best of all, it achieves the same performance gain with this car :)

guys you seem to know alot about the induction thing and stuff, i dno if your only into stilo's but i have a 04 plate mk2b punto and i was woundering if you knew the best kind of air filter to go in the induction box? its only a 1.2 8v but every little helps

and should i extend my cold air feed to get a better responce?

well i had the 1.1 8v version of that engine in my sei, and i had a cheap cone filter induction kit fitted to it and it did'nt take to it very well at all? it just seemed to "flat out" in the low revs but picked up at the higher end, but u had to give it some to get anything out of it - this might be down to the cheap induction set up where it just sat on the top of the engine - a K&N set up may perform better? however, it did sound good? :D

the cone filter definatly looks better i have to say, but for the price, i think a pannel filter will give you the same kinda performance gains ( which would be marginal ) than a cone filtered set up but a 3rd of the price (y)

the punto boys will probably have a better idea than me though?

Best thing would be a K&N or Pipercross panel filter. GSR don't manufacture in the UK any more, nor does Fiat Forum support them any more due to unethical dealings.
I had one on my 1.6. It sounded very good and was probably the least damaging but i still dropped torque.

just a quick update, started to upgrade the audio system on the stilo.I've been hankering for a bass bin in my boot for quite a while and although my stilo does have a factory one installed - which is'nt that bad as i goes? - i wanted something with a little bit more "BOOM". I've never bought a bass box before, i've always built them, quite a few actually, however the last one i made was for my old punto which i sold in 2002! anyway, heres a few pics of it. My weapon of choice is only an 300watt 8" vibe which cost me the princley sum of £20 off ebay and is the perfect size for what i want, as i still wanna be able to use my boot fot storage. I also replaced the rear speakers with a set of 16.5cm vibes which i also got for 20 quid via ebay. Just need to build an amp house, fit the front speakers and get a new head unit. :)
