you could try warm water and a card/credit card like or a hair dryer and then to get the rest of the remains off some tar&glue remover.

i used boiling water and fishing line and worked them off, for residue i had most of it left so got a rubber wheel (toffee wheel) that goes on drill then took 10 mins to get it off and then a bit of t-cut to reduce fade and remove trace of adhesive took 30mins all in minus the 5 days waiting for rubber wheel turning up
