Punto (Mk2/2b) Colinf1's 2000 Mk2 8v.

Introduction

Hi all,

Heres my progree blog of my work in progress

Bought it in May,

then after a good service and wash/polish

then after i done tints...

and carbon fibre effect badges

then alloys

cc'd wing mirrors

hopefully be getting a few bits n piece to make it look like this soon

forgot about this section of the forum

an update 4 months later....

Changed engine due to threaded sparkplug hole and excessive oil usage due to worn/damaged piston rings

New engine had 30k on it, 15k less than what I took out, also had a better clutch with more meat left on it along with pressure plate and bearing, CAT was in better shape than mine, so left that on too.

Full service done just after engine was put in, along with new timing belt and tensioner.

Also got a set of HGT dials, not had them proxi aligned yet, a sporting steering wheel and proper headrests (got rid of those moulded plastic ones). Also got the standard sub in boot.

Just fitted new FK shocks and lowering springs all round, lowered 60mm on front, 40mm on rear, old shocks where well past it, they appear to be original, 11 years old!

Rear lights got the tinted treatment, turned out pretty nice!

replaced anti roll bar bushings.

old ones where completly worn out, new ones where a nightmare to get in, like trying to get a camel through eye of a needle!

Anti roll bar had move out of line, was about an inch more towards the drivers side, so loosend the inner bushings, and used a G-Clamp on endof bar and hooked into wishbone to move it back to the center.

Worked a treat, had a whine and rattle when reversing, now its gone, and handling is good and tight.

Next up....power washer took most of the carbon fiber vinyl off the rear badge, so gonna redo that, (cant debagde as paint is missing where badges where glued on...)

wheels are 7j, running 195/45 at front, 205/45 at rear

front tyres need replacing soon, so have to check for rubbing with a 205

pot holes are a nightmare, hit 1 last week and was sure there was gonna be a buckle in alloy, but was ok thankfully....made a right bang when i hit it, plus with stiffend springs didnt do much in the way of damping it...

i fitted shortend dampers with those springs and have travelled maybe 200 - 300miles so far, so maybe they'll settle a bit more....side skirts and c/c bumper mite help make it look lower 2...?

small update,

finally got rear badge redone, took it off and tried to blend the paint in around the scrapes that where under the badge, but didnt look too good...

my car and another that was parked in town, wanted to see how much lower it was v's standard shocks, tho the blue car was on 17's...

the splitter on the front helps it look alot lower...

yeah there palm trees alrite! did you not know ireland has a tropical climate, lovely white beaches and reggae music on all the radio stations.

dunno how theyve managed to get so tall without falling over...they where planted in '96 and are now about 20ft tall..

it has been nice and sunny here that past week or so, but its still chilly!

more pictures to be uploaded later, mudflaps on car (i know there not everybodys cuppa tea) but if they help keep car a bit cleaner they'll do! They came off a MK1 punto so theyre a nice size and fit.

there off a mk1 punto, but never really noticed mudflaps on many other mk1 puntos so may be just universal 1s.
there just the right size, not too big and not too small...

yeah, thats a saxo sneaking in there, its due for testing on monday so hopefully it will pass again...
