Panda (Classic) SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica).

Re: SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica)

Would it be legal if you painted the reg. no. onto the mesh?

Funny you should say that lol!! I thought about it. I could however cut a C-section into the plastic around the licence plate and push it in at the top. The plate would be angled but in the right place at least with just a slit vent at the top. It would not get as much flow as a mesh grille, but would be less noticeable (y) Ideas are flooding around my head!
Thinking punto GT intercooler will fit better behind the bumper too....so thats on the shopping list (y)

Just got to work out what pipes I need to make all this work now! Want to keep the system length down as much as possible to help reduce turbo lag. FUN FUN FUN!!

Re: SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica)

Nice work so far, looks like it is tighter than expected, but is going to work!

I know I haven't contributed much to this thread, but you seem to keep solving the problems before I get to read them. I would have said Denso alternator as they are popular in Westfields for space and lightness, but looks like you are already on it.

I have subscribed now, so I should keep up!

Number plate: If you want/need holes where the plate should be, you probably already have the best solution. It would be legal at an angle. You might consider putting a hole/holes over the top half of the plate recess and having the plate on the bottom half, leaving half of it overhanging.

Haha, yeah I am going hell for leather at this project now. Nice idea regards the number plate. it then stays in roughly the right position and gets a reasonable air flow....I hope.

Re: SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica)

Good evening all,

Another weekend at the car has been fruitful. Finally found an intercooler setup that works. Not a lot of space to route pipes on this little car!

Unfortunately the U-bend pipe does come down quite far atm, but I think I can improve this as it has to go round the front suspension mount and its not properly fitted in this picture. If I cant fix it enough then a mk1 golf front splitter (suggested previously :D) should do the trick.

The engine bay is looking more like it should too with all the major parts in their places! Still got to sort out the alternator mounts but it fits now :slayer:
The radiator hoses and intake pipes are getting a bit mad, bit like spagetti (getting more italian by the day :p)

Also looking like I can keep most of the original marbella front end in tact...

Driveshafts are now in with new boots and at first glance all looks correct. Anti-roll-bar to be fitted imenentaly. Pleased with progress, maybe be starting her up next weekend weather permitting!:slayer:

Weather permitting?!! It hasn't held you up so far. ;)

Looking more and more like a serious bit of kit, Good work! (y)

Haha, true although I am getting tired of the cold. Last night was ok though, actually quite warm unlike today :(

What really grinded my gears was the fact it got dark before I got the cv boot clips on. You know the ones with the silly little hooks that catch on the holes all round that are given away with all cv boot kits...I hate them so much, i would love to meet the person who invented them

The holes I cut through the front panel for the intercooler pipes are much tidier now. All painted in primer and ready for a spray....not that anyones going to see it.

Re: SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica)

hmmmm with regards to number plate would a small plate on the nearside be ok? one of the square two row motorbike style ones, don't the alfa 156s have that?

Thats a thought. I did think about a small one on the front but it is a tad illegal so a square front plate would do the trick. Will think whether I want an obvious look right away.

Splitter should shuffle some air up into the vent beneath the licence plate...gona go down grumbleweed route on this ;)

Re: SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica)

Thanks for the suggestion, that would look so good, but trying to keep price of it all down. :( I bought a cheap used mk2 golf slitter for the moment and will see how it looks. Just need to get it going to start with, but looks good on a panda so hopefully can pull off the same thing on da SEAT!

Cheers,

Haha, yeah. Going to fit the twin y10 horns I think. Well if they sound good that is.

Quick update:

Suspension back together with anti-roll bar, got all the intercooler pipes sorted, just the alternator, oil cooler pipes and wiring to sort out now!!

And the weekend is young yet!

Re: SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica)

im not really a follower of panda / marbellas, but this is awesome!

Thanks, it certainly is not a common project. Would be rare enough in a panda, but the marbella is the icing on the cake :D

Looks like good progress. Looking forward to seeing it going this summer I hope!

I am majorly looking forward to it! Hit a few snags though, there is a fuel vapour condensor unit and the electric fuel pump that i couldnt find when I got the engine. I know where they are now, but I guess thats no good anymore!

Plus a load of things that make no sence, bit of a contradiction going on in the lancia workshop manual. Might see if I can get hold of a haynes for some exra info. Or are they rare too? :p lol.

Mounted Radiator, and fixed the cooling fan on too. most the pipes are connected now:

Found a use for the spare wheel space... one Electronic ignition unit:

Couldnt beleive my luck with the Y-10 boost gauge. A perfect fit, and room to keep some mints! :D lol
DSCI2308.JPG

This is what has me confused:
DSCI2306.JPG

Its a boost limit switch I beleive, off the manifold. I know the big outlet below the connector is for the brake servo (so I'll be blanking that off ) but the other 2 small pipes I am not sure on. One either goes to the ECU thingy or the boost gauge inside the car. I cant remember where the boost gauge pipe actually connects to.

Looks like some investigating is going to be required. Unless there's a Y10 turbo owner here who knows?? :D

It should all be in the workshop manual. I remember reading about this junction/switch. There isn't a 3rd party Y10 workshop manual. You have all the printed info on Turbos.

Eeek, so I'll be reading over the workshop manual thoroughly then. Hopefully just something I missed.
