Panda (Classic) Grumbleweed

Introduction

been stubbornly refusing to stir outside the panda section for a long while but put a fair bit of time into tidying the old lad up this summer so thought I'd stick some photos together to show the state of play just now.
So for those of you who aren't al ready au fait, this is Grumbleweed, a 1990 Panda Sergio Tacchini with a mix of scrapyard warrior mods and fresh bits:

look! even found some scenery to take some pics:)

Highlights include the new mk2 golf splitter and chavtastic blue lensed driving lamps (they were reduced OK) in the front bumper, Momo steering wheel, aftermarket gearknob on shortened gearstick, 40mm drop on new standard shocks, mystery retro pepperpot wheels (anybody any idea? came off a Tipo in a scrappy) converted to Uno electronic dizzy, K&N panel filter in standard airbox with shortened intake, Powerflow stainless exhaust rear section with Y10 standard front section, array of extra instrumentation (tacho, oil pressure and volts) and assorted other bits and bobs dotted around that my father in law (the previous owner) fitted and I just find out about when new stuff I buy mysteriously doesn't fit:confused:
Andrew.
nice looking car(y) the basic design on the Y10 front suspension is the same I think, but there are some differences in the setup. Lewey's the guy to ask really I believe he has both kicking about and has hit some problems swapping stuff around on the front. I'd be surprised if the springs were different but from what he said it sounds like some of the mounting points on struts and suspension arms are different. TBH when I had the Y10 I would never have looked at the front suspension. Only really had bits like that apart on the last few since I've had somewhere to work on them.

Thanks for the reply mate. It was Lewey that i bought them from lol. He said they wouldnt fit...but i forgot to ask him why! lol

ah, OK. Well if he says they won't fit that probably means he's tried so I'd take his word for it.
rears are fine though, had Y10 rear shocks and springs on till recently.
so what now? buy a set of 4x4 springs with just fronts?????

Yeah. Best price ive found so far is £62.00 for SPAX 40mm drop fronts (pair) for the early 81-86 Panda. Dont suppose you know anyone who has a set for less lying around anywhere:rolleyes:.............?

'fraid not, the ones I took off were knackered. If you are looking at that sort of mony for a pair of fronts though you may as well just buy a full matched set of 4, only paid about £80 for mine.

Yeah was going to do that, but the best price i can find is £117 delivered.....sigh. i only paid £28 quid for the lancia set so id still be doing well. lol. Stupid really isnt it.

ha haaa! big box of bits just turned up today:D:D
week commencing 14/03 is 'Project: Panda:cool:' week
today's box: front suspension arms, bushes for the rear radial arms, thermostat, inlet manifold gasket, exhaust manifold gasket (for when I get a non leaky manifold) cam cover gasket and new exhaust hangers.
Also lined up the now cleaned and painted exhaust midsection to refit and a properly painted cam cover instead of the quickly sprayed one I had as an ornament but never really intended to put back under the bonnet which is now flaking badly.
and of course the braided brake flexis I've had in the garage for roughly a year now.
possibly fix the mysterious blistering paint on the roof, paint the rust under the bonnet I never got round to, remove and bolster the drivers seat a bit....
or more likely stand in the rain with many cups of coffee contemplating the above without actually getting around to most of it:eek:

finally making some progress. rear tie bar bushes all changed, makes a hell of a difference. bottom engine mount done, ditto, front top mounts, suspension arms and tie rod ends lined up for tomorrow.(y)
