Panda (Classic) Grumbleweed

Introduction

been stubbornly refusing to stir outside the panda section for a long while but put a fair bit of time into tidying the old lad up this summer so thought I'd stick some photos together to show the state of play just now.
So for those of you who aren't al ready au fait, this is Grumbleweed, a 1990 Panda Sergio Tacchini with a mix of scrapyard warrior mods and fresh bits:

look! even found some scenery to take some pics:)

Highlights include the new mk2 golf splitter and chavtastic blue lensed driving lamps (they were reduced OK) in the front bumper, Momo steering wheel, aftermarket gearknob on shortened gearstick, 40mm drop on new standard shocks, mystery retro pepperpot wheels (anybody any idea? came off a Tipo in a scrappy) converted to Uno electronic dizzy, K&N panel filter in standard airbox with shortened intake, Powerflow stainless exhaust rear section with Y10 standard front section, array of extra instrumentation (tacho, oil pressure and volts) and assorted other bits and bobs dotted around that my father in law (the previous owner) fitted and I just find out about when new stuff I buy mysteriously doesn't fit:confused:
Andrew.
Ahaaa!, Think I might finally have a handle on Grumbleweeds rough running. Had a kind of whining noise for a while linked to engine speed that I put down to a bearing somewhere although I've never found it, and I've never been able to get a decent idle out of him. Recently the idling has been getting worse, really erratic and up to about 2k when hot sometimes. So tonight I decided to hook up a vacuum gauge to see if I've got a leak and it's showing a catastrophically low vacuum level at idle, something like 5hg (whatever those are:eek:) instead of about 25, and the vacuum advance when you disconnect it has pretty minimal effect. Don't think it's the advance unit itself, problem's been hanging around longer than that's been on, so just need to track it down.
Got a couple of inlet manifold gaskets lying anyway so might just whip it off and start working my way back.

Ah, I'll just have to work my way through again. Got a fine tradition of pulling the front end apart the last few days before a show you know. I'll get it a bit more driveable for Stanford Hall on the 7th.
Probably.
Or that's going to be a long drive:(

What are the holes like where the tie bar passes through the front mounting bracket? they can wear allowing the bar to move around even with the nut really tight.

Not the highest quality finish (obviously) but I've got a sheet of vinyl to do it when I've got time. Just gave the car a wash on my parents drive this morning and got annoyed with the cracked paintwork on the bonnet so one trip to the pound shop later....:D

How did you manage to get that "Wembley turf stripe" look? :p

Cool though, you'll have insect imprints in it when you get to the show - just like Fizzle has on her colour coded grille
