Punto MK2 ELX "The Punt"

Hey everyone!

Seeing as I am new here I thought I start my post count off by posting some pictures of my MK2 Punto.

Ive had to have various parts replaced on the car including the steering column, cambelt and other parts in the engine aswell. I've also had a JBL AMP and alarm fitted to the car, but apart from that everything is how it was when purchased.

This is my first car and im loving it!!.. just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for future mods?

I think you will get a little abuse of becuase of the back lights but i think coz your car is black, tint them and they should look really good i would of thought.

Also lower is and that would make a massive difference to it as well.

Re: Punto MK2 ELX "The Punt"

Thanks for your suggestions Anfield I will definatly look into doing them!

I've been looking at some smallish mods, e.g. rear window tinting, focus induction kit and possibly spraying the brake calipers/drums - I read the guides on the website and I was wondering how hard would they be for a complete novice to do? and would it be worth me doing them?

Looks tidy!
Although my Jeebus those alloys are huagee! They 18s? They make the rear drums look tiny
I would honestly get standard rear lights and tint them. You don't seem like a chav!
Looks very clean though

Re: Punto MK2 ELX "The Punt"

Thanks just finished cleaning both the inside and outside ready for the pictures

The alloys are 17s but do look alot bigger! I was thinking of mounting my amp onto a carperted backboard and then mount the backboard onto the rear of the backseat as at the minute the amp is just mounted to the metal plate at the rear of the backseat - just wondering if this would be a big job to do? im guessing all you need is a sheet of mdf, staple gun, carpet and some screws to mount the backboard onto the backseat?

Oh btw im not a chav

Edit: Thought I'll add a picture so you can see what im trying to do (The hooks are for my seat covers)

I have done this already mate, if you check out my thread in members motors (think there is a picture) any way it can get tricky when cutting out the wood, as you have to get the sizes right and you cant draw around the back of the seat as it wont work when you put the seat back. It took me around 1-2 hours to get it all carpeted and on. The only thing with all the wires it looks untidy but i have a plan

And get rid of those lights or tint them

Re: Punto MK2 ELX "The Punt"

My Dad owns a car audio accessories business, he distributes pretty much EVERYTHING to do with car audio, it has its advantages

You should be able to get it from your local motorfactors, wont be any more than 15. I used approx 4m x 3m worth and have some left over. However i also did a sheet of MDF for the floor, for the sub to sit on, and carpeted that. I need to update my thread when it has all finished to show you, but there are some pics!

Re: Punto MK2 ELX "The Punt"

painting your front brake calipers and rear drums is easy.
ive done mine in red front and back. if you can change a wheel you can do it simple as that.

Starting at the front all i did was take the wheel off, used a wire brush to get any crap off the cailper, then jet washed it to get any further crap off then i started painting
I used harmerite paint from my local motorspares shop. Also i recomend doing it with a fine brush as you can get into smaller gaps and stops you getting paint on the brake pad which looks poo. Give it say half a day to dry as it takes ages to dry. If you dont let it dry and use the car the paint starts to blister/pop and youll have to start again.

I did one side of my car in a day and the other the next ill get some pics up.

Re: Punto MK2 ELX "The Punt"

Sorted out the boot carpet today with a little help from my brother and my dad.

We used 6mm MDF for the backing of the carpet and attched the carpet to the board using carpet tape, whole job took around 45 minutes and I think it makes the boot look alot better!

I also moved the sub over slightly to hide some of the audio/power cables ...still need to sort out my seat covers though

Plus side is that the entire job cost 12 as I got most of the materials for free

Re: Punto MK2 ELX "The Punt"

I've just brought the red paint for the brake calipers/drums but before I jack the car up to paint them I want to make 100% sure where the jacking points are for the car... I read the guide in haynes manual but I thought I would double check with you guys first.

In the manual it tells you to locate your jack under the triangle mark on the sill so ive attached an image to where I think the jack should be place... just wondering if it is the right location

Edit: Im planning on using the standard jack which came with the car.. would this be sufficent or would I need to buy a new jack?
