Re: sdb-punto Punto MK2

Great base for project. To be honest I would colour code everything, bumpers, wing mirrors, see if there is a sporting in same colour in a scrappy, changing those makes a huge difference and increases the value of your car.

Re: sdb-punto Punto MK2

looks great as it is, very clean looking.

not sure i'd bother getting a polished rocker cover though

Thanks Tris

I might be getting a machine polisher Meguiars G220 soon :yum:

I have already bought the paint and its already sanded down and smooth so I might as well! will smarten up and make the engine bay look cleaner anyway

Boot should be finished after this weekend as well with a bit of luck.

Its in the bodyshop 10th August as well

Re: sdb-punto Punto MK2

UPDATE: started on the audio

Took off the doorcards and the white foam layer. Then completely cleaned out all of the doors!

We then applied the Dynamat :D This sound deadened the whole doors, its great stuff and highly recommended, you wont find better on the market.

After this stage was done we then put Dynamat over the whole door, so that it covered all possible holes.

Then came mounting the front components. The tweeter positioning in the Punto is terrible, so i will be having 'custom made' A pillar pockets (where the original tweeters are, and the manual window levers) Also on went the Crossovers and The mid-bass speakers. The speaker collars will eventually be covered in Dynamat as well so there will be no holes etc (we were going to fibreglass them, but this will work just as well)

Its going to be a proper job! Thankfully i have a extremely good installer working with me and showing me how to do various things!

Lastly i have also tinted my side repeaters blue and sprayed my cam cover silver to smarten it up a bit :)

Re: sdb-punto Punto MK2

this is gonna be a daft question but, did the 1st lot of sound deadening go in down the window slot?
but i am loving what your doing you can come do mine if you want hehe

i have to say painting the rocker has highlighted how dirty the rest of the engine/engine bay is, nbut if you clean it up will look spot on
(y) to that man (y)

EDIT: and whats gone on with the heat sheild looks a bit bent out of shape lol

Re: sdb-punto Punto MK2

I love the door speaker build. Looks very pro
Where did you get the sound deadening from? and how much was it. I need to do the same!

Thanks mate its not finished yet though :(

My dad is now the only UK importer for Dynamat, the best sound proofing company - for a fact. (he sells to trade, all local motorfactors etc, not to public im afraid!) I have used the Dynamat Extreme Bulk pack. This will cover both doors, and the boot (where the wheel is and the back panel) However as it is the best in the business (up to 10 time more sound proof than any competitors) it comes with a price tag. For this particular kit you are looking in excess of £290, just for the sound proofing. (however they have a large range so check out their website but this pack is what you need!) It comes in large sheets, where you simply peel off the backing and stick it on (easier said than done - you will also need a roller to help the dynamat stick to the door, and the doors have to be spotless!) It took me 4 hours to do both of the doors!
To be fair though, for a proper sounding system you need to sound proof. It transforms the sound and quality of the music, as well as excluding road noise and any rattles etc (that fiats suffer from badly!) It also makes the doors feel a lot more solid, instead of the tinny metal noise when you tap the doors it sounds like its completely solid!

Hi mate, thanks! (y)

No i had to cut out all shapes and sizes, feed it through the holes and stick it down (its one hell of a job - cuts everywhere! the doors are such a pain as well as as you can see there are no large holes to feed it through!)

Yes the bay does need a clean!

Once i get the fuel issues sorted out ( i am having terrible MPG issues!) the induction kit may go back on so should look better. What else could i paint to make it look better? :chin:

Dont even ask about the heat shield! its knackered, the bottom bolts sheared off so its held on with homemade paper clips!

I would love to have a go at sound deadening but I have no idea how much I would need if buying online. A measurement would be great!

The bulk pack would do 2 doors and a boot i would guess in a small hatchback. Here is the link to the pack http://www.dynamat.com/products_car_audio_sheets_and_bulk_paks.html

looks mint mate! i like it

Thanks!

I will be finishing it off MTX audio who my Dad now distribute along with JL audio - exciting times :D

EDIT: I have also got on order my wing mirrors and door handles to colour code (at bodyshop), Seat subframe, mine snapped (no im not fat :p) and Fiat original Wheel trims (for £5!!) all in it was £55 delivered, not bad IMO!
