126 The minion.

Introduction

Well as my town driving has dramatically increased recently I decided there was no way the Marea could do the job on it's own. Petrol bills going through the roof and suspension component replacements every couple weeks.

So I went and got the Beast a little friend which we call the Minion.
Good points:
Good solid shell
Seems to be an excellent runner
Porsche style mechanical layout.
Bad Points :
Top speed is a claimed 72 mph. I'd be surprised if it can reach that.
25 BHP means being overtaken by Artics on the motorway which is scary.
Carb could be a bit of a project - Dad had a 126BIS for a couple of years and did lots to it but it kept breaking down because of a dodgy carb!

In the end he got rid of it and bought a Quadzilla instead!

The 126 is such a sweet little car! Would I be right in thinking the Cinquecento replaced it in the 90s?

pretty sure the cinquecento was a replacement for the 500 as cinquecento is how you spell 500 in Italian:confused:

nice car anyway. would it be hard to stick a a fiat FIRE engine in it? i recon one of them with 55 - 60hp would be fun lol. lot more reliable.

btw just noticed its got the cento seat belt fasteners and handbrake. inside door openers look the same. and its got a cento sporting steering wheel. altho i cant see that been standard surely as even the S versions had plastic steering wheels

My carbs good it's the coolant system that's the fault on this one.

The 126 was the 500 replacement. In fact the air cooled 126s are pretty much the same car but with a new shell. The Cinq was then the 126's replacement to the fact there was a Cinq with a 2 cylinder engine almost identical to the 126 BIS.

The 126 shares many components with the 500 and the Cinq, it really is the car in between them.
