Re: Harj - Mk2 Sprint Blue Sporting

did you have to do anything to the wheels to get them to fit? i thought they had a smaller center bore

Dave your right they have a smaller centre bore, but if you use 5mm spacers, the wheels go straight on and the wheels fit perfectly.

Without the spacers they are only slightly off, say about 2mm in the front and 4mm off the back.

The pcd is the same(98) but the offset on the wheels are 40mm and the mk2 punto is 35mm...so with 5mm spacers you get the correct fitment (y)

Im guessing we are gonna see quite a few puntos with these rims v.soon!

How do 5mm spacers make the centre bore bigger?

They're Grande Punto wheels so the PCD is 4x100 so they are not safe to fit to your Mk2 Punto which has 4x98 PCD unless you use wobbly bolts.

5mm spacers do away with the centre bore.

cars can be driven about quite safely without centrebores with wobbly bolts, though - i know a couple of people that have never had any problems with it.

having said that, its not quite as safe, and the bolts should be regularly checked for tightness...

On my car the locating lip on the hub protrudes 10mm, so there will still be 5mm left?

It's not safe, especially when using wobbly bolts as the wheel will be sitting off centre if there is no centre bore, so the wheel will not be rotating truely leading to vibrations which will be noticeable at high speed (70+mph).

love the wheels.sell them me lol(y)

that is quite correct, and i agree with you. But try tell that to one of my mates.... the wheels felt perfectly balanced in his car, and he was running around in that car for about a year without a problem
sometimes thats just the way it is, i guess.

Re: Harj - Mk2 Sprint Blue Sporting

Putting 5mm spacers on wont change the centre bore it will just lower the offset. Grande wheels are 4x100 aswell so if you are running standard bolts they are unsafe and you need to at least use wobbly bolts to make them semi safe and then you could do with getting the centre bore proffesionally machined to increase them to 58.1mm instead of the 56.4 that i think the grande is.

Re: Harj - Mk2 Sprint Blue Sporting

im guessing, that putting 5mm spacers on effectively made the centre bore redundant? and even though the hup centre protrudes further than 5mm, i *think* that the chamfer on the centre of the GPS wheels will make up for this?

just guessing, i want to see how you have done this.

oh, and getting them machined wont cost that much, personally i would do i properly ;)

Re: Harj - Mk2 Sprint Blue Sporting

wobbly's are fine, as long as you do get those centre's machined, as its not a great idea :(.

if you insist on continuing using the car without spigots, tighten the whelels as you would a cylinder head, equally cross centred on a clockwise rotation.

Yeah I'd get the centre bore machined to 58.1mm and then use 10mm hubcentric spacers all round and then fit the wheels with extended wobbly bolts, will be 100% safe then and will look better as the wheels will be spaced out in the arches a bit more. (y) Fiat sell 10mm hubcentric spacers for £35 a pair, let me know if you want the part number. :)

Here's a pic of them:

Re: Harj - Mk2 Sprint Blue Sporting

Whooaaa...easy tigers!!

The Grande Punto Sporting alloys are 98PCD.... I dont know who told you they are 100PCD.... so the PCD is no issue.

Now...the centre bore on the front is correct but is too long so the 5mm spacer helps the wheel sit right.

The rear bore is also okay but the cap gets in the way so the 5mm spacer helps again.

Both wheels spin correctly and are in the centre. Have had this checked. Plus I have driven the car on the motorway at about 80ish and there is no wobble......as a matter of fact, there is no wobble at any speed....

Also, my original bolts are fine. They used 7 threads on the sporting alloys and with the GPS alloys, 5 threads are used. I might change them but they seem to be holding. Tightened them after 100miles and checked yesterday and they still are fine.

So, I have no issues with them on the car....was thinking about the centric spacers, but not needed so not going to bother. They may make them look nicer as they will push the wheels further out...but hey.....if its not broken why try to fix it?! (y)

Who told you the wheels are 4x98 PCD? The Grande Punto is based on the Corsa platform so the hubs are 4x100, so I imagine the wheels are 4x100 as well?
