Croma (Classic) my new car/toy

lets just say it has a turbo, with black leather and loves to spin the wheels at every chance it gets ,i.e standing start or doing 50 and overtaking,it,s an animal:devil:

she has a mere 59,536 miles from new ,12 months mot,all for the grand total of £300+101 for tax,bad points are both rear arches have just started to show some signs of rust so will have to be treated soon and needs a service, not bad or what,oh i need a radio too:cool:

Not at all bad. Almost as good as my K plate Auto Panda with only 15500 on the clock from new with a years MOT for a very mere £350:p

yep thats right ,it's a member of the type 4,which means, alfa 164,saab 9000,lancia thema, and yours truly fiat croma, just been cleaning up the engine bay the body work[inner wings] are like new not a bit of rust anyware amaizing:D

you know I owned a Croma Turbo ie back in the late 80's it was a fantastic car (when it worked) great performance, comfortable, practical and suprisingly ecomonical, it suprised a lot of people with its wolf in sheep's clothing looks

The major plus point of course was the wonderfull Fiat twin cam engine and the great noise it makes

It was unfortunatly the most unreliable car i have ever owned and even back then when it was a current model trying to get parts for it was a PITA

Edit: maybe the second most unreliable car comming just after the Strada 130TC that caught fire and burt out on the M1 just south of Chesterfield

mmm strange that ,i have had over the years the cht,i.e,i.e sx,turbo, cht, and now the latest turbo, well for 92 anyway, apart from every day serviceing,i never had a real proplem,i remember coming back from cardiff one day and the head gasket went on the i.e,but it got me home and to work all week till it was booked in the following week at fiat cardigan, you only new something was not right in the morning when it took a couple of seconds longer to start, how many cars of today could do that i think none in all honesty they really on to close atollerance to keep going, they just dont make them like they used to even with there faults fiat have like so many other manufactures the driving feel/pleasure,has gone with new cars,i mean like you said for instance the sound of a twin cam fiat is wonderful,a mondeo mmmm, are well rant over(y)

It was the electronics that were the problem with mine i'm convinced of it (i had a 86 super ie and a 87 turbo ie) but back then electronics were voodoo to Fiat dealers (in fact most dealers), so they never had the skills to bottom the issue. Without this which (would be an everday issue for todays dealers) the engine would still be running today, as it is without a doubt the best bit of the car.

sadly no sold it awhile back moved onto volvo v70's and xc70's now but still have a fiat in the family my dads brava 1.6 elx on a n reg with just on 60,000 and mint condition he never takes it out the garage unless it's sunny lol,but the croma never missed a beat went onto a good home i hope sold it to a guy in cardigan who only ever had croma's

There were bad dealers and good dealers
As for the croma, they initially sold quite well for a ‘big Fiat’. Only real electrical issues were with the climate control and usually down to some fool screwing the mounting of their ‘car phone’ to n/s of center console, often ending in burnt out wiring looms…we had one of the ‘gang of four’, the 164, complete front of cabin burnt out, that was a very expensive insurance job from a very well known motoring organisation!
