The vertical flitch panels that the wings bolt to seem to have splayed out slightly and there is too much of a gap, so I think I'll unbolt them tomorrow and try and pull them in a bit to get the gap right.

Like munkul says, sunburn wrecks, you will burn the cornea out of your eyes if you do it without a mask too long or just screw your eyes up, its bright enough to flash thrugh your eyelids too sometimes. You should weld in an area ventilated enough to extract the fumes, but not too breezy as the gas will not reach the metal and slag will form, making the weld impure and brittle (n) wear protection :p

I have been wearing a mask...its just all the fumes from the welding and the burning underseal from when i was under the arch.

The mask in question, not much chance of getting sunburnt with that

That's where I'm up to. Hopefully tomorrw I'll weld the front panel verticals to the front crossmember, do the wing gaps, fit the radiator, get a new battery and fit the lights. I'm waiting for a bumper repair kit to arrive.

Thats alright then (y) doesnt look bad at all (y), cant quite recollect which part you've plated in context/comparison to the rest of the car. Was it just a rust hole and whereabouts was it?

nice little project you have going on there man, i did one with similar damage a few months ago. a handy tip would be to use a bottle jack placed against the engine/gearbox with piece of wood to prevent it damaging anything, then you can push some of the damage out easily., :)

Got on with a little bit more today. I started to line up the verticals off the front panel, fitted the headlamps (the nearside brackets snapped! Bugger!) I'll have to get a new one tomorrow! fitted the radiator and the front bumper bracket.

next using a tie down and a c-clamp got everything locked into place. The nearside front panel was still a bit high so with the tie down i was able to hold it in position.
