EGR is at back right top of engine. Has a metal pipe that goes from it to the intake manifold, just to the left of the battery. First thing to try would be unplugging the MAF.

Blimey, it wont help, but probably not the sole cause. You want to drain that out ASAP, otherwise you could end up doing some serious damage.

Ok, do you notice if its at a particular point in the rev range? For example at about 1.5 rpm when the turbo is kicking in, or is it all over the rpm range? A sign of a dodge MAF can also be juddering which feels slightly liek a misfire. This normally occurs at around 1.5 to 2 k though. It could also be the boost solonoid (or overboost valve). But so far, all of the problems you have described sound like they could well be dodge MAF related. Best thing to do is disconnect it, then take it for a drive. If the car feels much better, then its your problem.

i suppose its just when low revs, because it does it when in 3rd/4th gear.

and having just read a thread in stilo section, someone had a dodgy maf sensor and they described there symptoms and they sound very similar to mine.

Yea I would put a bet on your MAF. If you look in the Punto Guides section, i have done a guide to removing and cleaning the MAF sensor on the JTD.

Sounds more like EGR to me, mine behaved exactly like Beau explains and it was the EGR valve.

MAF sensor tends to feel like the car is N/A though you can still hear the turbo spooling

Thought I would be checking the MAF first to make sure :)

Nice car btw, I would run it standard for a bit and get everything working nicely before you remap it though (y)

wow beau i thought you were gonna be a mk1 lover forever!

as much as i love the mk1, the mk2 was so much better is so many ways.

if i happen to see an orange mk2 in a scrapyard i'll let you know, but i doubt i'll ever see one a long as i live.

it was the maf sensor, well i think so anyway, i disconnected it and its running alot better, how much are they new? are those security torx things easy to buy?

and yeah, if anyone sees a orange punto in a scrappy let me know, cos i need a drivers too too, not essential but id like one.

From experience, i have found that the cheap MAF sensors tend to go very quickly. I would reccomend going for a proper named brand like Bosch. However, as Toad says, they are more expensive! But will probably last twice as long.

To clean the MAF you need "security Torx bit 2.5" you can pick them up from places like halfords, B&Q etc dead cheap.
