This was supposed to be a culmination of the work on the s type. But today the crankshaft snapped (n)

Jami I'm assuming its because it will just break again, the 1.2 16v was never made to withstand that much power.

I'm impressed to see the 1.2 16v crank hold up against the supercharger for as long as it did :D

I say turbo the bugger next :slayer:

Ouch. Was the crank standard?

My guess would be yesh.

I'd fix the bugger and get some sort of an uprated crank specced up.

Costs £££ but i'm sure enough will have been plowed into this already to just bin it.

Yes it was :(. If it was forged it would have coped I recon but then again what I know about engine tuning is f*** all compared to him :p.

I reckon it'll be worth rebuilding and modifying a new crank. So much work has gone into to it, it seems a shame to just let it die.

Would a tuftrided/nitrided, crossdrilled, knifed and balanced crank be strong enough I wonder? :chin:

Oh that's really bad luck Dave, first snapped crank i've ever heard of so well done in that respect

My money was always on the gearbag or diff exploding first but there you go

bet you wish you'd taken the cash and sold it now:cry:

Hope your going to rebuild it if nothing else to prove it wasn't a fluke and see if you can snap another crank (y)

bad luck :( but i'm sure its not a surprise.

replace the crank, its not that big a job, then sell it. a supercharged engine always gets the interest of boyracers so i'm sure it'll sell easily enough.

then you can move on to your next project after learning one of the most important lessons; nothing on a car is made to be stronger than it needs to be.

there was probably years of use on that crank anyway, get a brand new one and fix her up,. youd be mad to let her die after the work gone into it.,

Thanks for the comments. The RIP is the comment that the scharged project is dead. I'd be mad to continue after a shot hg and a major breakdown. I feel the project has pushed the boundaries a little. It was also an incredible drive. Listening to the whine and feeling power from anywhere to 7000rpm was addictive! My only regret is the £100 I've just spent on a spacer Plus pulley. And the £250 gearbox that will never be used. Thats annoying!
As discussed elsewhere its a std 16v or turbo next. The shell, brakes and DTA allow me to choose what I like!

Hope you liked the pictures

Dave
