As the new owner of my Punto drove away I actually felt a sense of sadness! The Punto had been my first car, and in a year I covered 25k. I nearly managed to get her to 100k in a year and a half so i'd become pretty attached to it. I was sad to see her go for a measly £550 :(

Not being one to dwell on the past :p, I set my budget at 4k and looked about at what I could get. I'd always kind of liked the mk4 Astra, the mk4 Golf and Ford's Focus. Thing was, I wasn't getting a great deal for that price. I then thought about going for a newer Punto but my Dad had recently bought my younger brother a mk 3 recently as his first car so I decided against that too.

After much deliberating I settled on what you see below, a 52 plate 1.6 16v Stilo 'Active' with 40k on the clock and the panoramic sunroof. It set me back £3,500 (inclusive of a service and delivery) which I thought was pretty good. She is great to drive and I have always liked the Stilo's quirky looks ;)

Soon she will have a GSR Induction kit, remap, a dual-exit exhaust system (with an arse like the Stilo's it deserves it) and some new 6.5 components to go with my JVC HU. I reckon she needs lowering too. Alloys can wait till I have more cash but they are in the pipeline!

Other than that i'm unsure what else to do. I reckon this car should be modded subtely so if anyone has any ideas with that in mind i'd like to hear them.

One thing I would love is some smoked LED rear lights. Are there any available? If they were about I reckon I would've seen them by now but you never know!

Anyways I hope you like :)

good choice picking a stilo! What size are those wheels...... they look rather small for the size of the stilo's arches. Ever consider some 17/18/19's maybe?

There arent many lights avaliable for the stilo, you cuold spray the rear to smoke them? Would look ok with your colour of car!

Maybe also colour code the rubing strips? and a light smoke rear window tint? a badgeless grille? And something that cost nothing, debadging the rear end?

oh and a big thumbs up on the GSR induction and remap on the list, something well worth the money there :D

the stilo is a very worthwhile upgrade from a punto. much better built. more features, and a million times better ride and handling. Driven quite a few (1.2 16v 6spd, 1.9JTD 80/85, and a 1.8 16v.
preferred the diesel the best, mainly on its tuning potential and economy, the 1.8 was quicker as std, though, but maybe not really as quick as it should be given the amount of juice it drank whilst I used it:eek: (think 28mpg, on what I would call an average drive about!!).

yeah, subtle styling tips, well you've already got one of THE best sunroofs ever (has yours got 3 buttons, or 5, if any stilo peeps ahve the 5button job, what are the extra 2 for??? one looks like a breakdown truck LOL).
a new fiat badge is defo on the cards, that ones gone sugary
get the latest metal style grill, their like factory punched metal things, really nice looking IMO>
a spoiler?? the squarish std fiat stilo ones are my fav, certainly wouldn't cost much.
yeah, then maybe smoke indicators and that.

enjoy it

Oh yeah had to keep it in the family :D

I'm not sure on the size of the alloys, all I know without looking is they're Fox/Fiat. I reckon they can't be larger than 15's though but i'll have a look and post in this thread later on.

I have the three button sunroof, so I can't help with what the extra two do i'm afraid. Not a fan of spoilers but I reckon the Stilo could pull it off. The simple metal grille looks good and possibly a debadge would make her look a lot better too (y)

As I want her to sit closer to the road I reckon I will go for some 17's unless 18's wont affect performance. I quite like the style of the H193 18's on www.alloywheels.com but I think I need to do a lot of searching before I settle :p

Is read GSR is the way to go on Induction kits, but what about remapping? Does GSR get the best from the engine or is the Angel remap better? I don't think I will be able to afford the exhaust system GSR are currently making so what would be the next best exhaust in terms of performance (needs to be twin exit)?

Cheers for all your help by the way :)
