Hi, so you're want an explination for this madness....well here goes; 55MPG, only slightly more on the insurance (in total £700 - being in mind i'm 18), bigger for kayaking (and roof rack) and loads of toys too.

Its a Citroen Xsara 'Exclusive' 2.0 HDi and was bought off eBay with 64k on the clock. This being their top of the range flagship model at the time.

Spec includes; rain sensitive wipers (which are actually really useful), 6 CD autochanger, 4 airbags (2 front, 2 side), 4x e/windows, cat 1 standard alarm with interior sensors, remote locking, alloy wheels, squishy velour interior, e/sunroof, ABS, ASR and ESP (on a 7 year old car) with disk brakes all round, steering wheel controls, tinted glass etc.

i think its **** but at leasts its not green

It's not sh*t Dave, it's a better car than a Punto anyway. It's certainly better value for money than a Mk1 or Mk2 Punto. The 2.0 diesel is a good strong engine and with that mileage it will have plenty of life left in it yet. If the electrics don't go wrong then it is a good buy.

Electrics on all my dads Citroen's have never been a problem, maybe you people are just generalising. And I wouldn't say it's better than a Punto. If it was, I would be driving one and not a Punto  Although I'm sure it's better than a Punto in terms of carrying Kyaks and other big stuff.

The only electrical problems so far are the indicator stalk (which needs replacing) and the light for the main beam headlights on the dah flashes on and off randomly.

Oh and the oil gauge doesn't work (but then most cars don't have one0, but the oil is fine so not really bothered.

All other electrics are fine (touchwood); alarm, electric windows, rain sen wipers.

the 2.0 HDi engine is f*cking brilliant, it's the same engine as the one in my dads C5, plenty of power, oodles of torque yet still big MPG :D Don't listen to Dave, he's constantly wearing rose-tinted glasses.

Have you got used to the brakes yet? if it's anything like my dads C5 then the brake pedal is a bit sensitive....

I agree. Yes the brakes are very sensitive, completely different to the fiat.

May i add, the Fiat is still here and as i'm insured with Quinn i can still drive it! Whooo.

Every car out on the road has it good and bad points, be it Fiat, Sh*troen, errr I mean Citroen, Peugeot (which amounts to the same as Citroen and vice versa, more vice than versa :D), etc.

It all, however, boils down to personal experience, and just like people, every car is an individual....some are fitter and have fewer medical (ie mechanical) problems than others.

I might have driven a FIAT forever and never had one second of letdown. I go to the pub, tell my mate (who is looking for a new car) how great FIAT is and off he trots to buy the brand spanking new, top of the range, latest whatever model. He gets in, starts it up, drives off and promptly breaks down and has the next 12 months of mechanical grief. But it could have been anycar. A FIAT, an Audi, Bentley, or whatever.

The point is you just never know.

I think I will stop now as I am rambling. But I think you get my point. (I hope so, because I have forgotten what my point was :p)
