Blu's Suzuki Ignis Sport

Introduction

So been toying with getting one for a while but today i actually bit the bullet and bought one...

2004 Suzuki Ignis Sport - Its just clocked past 44k miles so not bad mileage for a 10 year old car. For them that don't know it is a 1.5vvti engine - seems a very good engine, pulls from very low down but also very revvy. It weighs in at under a tonne. Fantastic handling little thing too, really holds on through the corners, i'm impressed! Its pretty much a japanese panda 100hp except a little lighter and a litter faster out of the box. Still feels like a small car even after driving a cinq daily although i do feel like i'm sat REALLY high up!

Not much done to it, just has a SuzukiSport grill, which are supposedly pretty rare and desirable amongst suzuki people - certainly improves the look of the car no end (AC rad has been painted black so its not as noticeable through the grill too).

And it has some aftermarket alloys, not sure on the brand i didn't check with decent tyres (Toyo T1-Rs) - but i got the oem wheels with good tyres too - might keep them as winter wheels.

Oh and square plates are not standard either.

Anyhow, some pics......

The mk1 CRX is the lads new car, he bought it yesterday to replace the Iggy. Only 6 of them mk1 CRX in the UK according to howmanyleft, was a very cool car indeed. nearly all fibreglass and only weighs a bit more than a cinquecento except it has almost triple the power lol.

All in all I am most pleased - it is like a fiat though and the red is a bit flat - i shall machine polish it soon and hopefully it will come up really nice.

Massive thank you to Simon a.k.a buttflap212 for the lift and good to see you again fella ;)

Comments welcome.
Well small update, I bought a grill from a poverty spec Ignis - so black plastic rather than colour-coded or mesh like the SuzukiSport one it had.

And i can tell you now i wish i had bought a sport grill and painted it, making it fit was a total nightmare - but it looks good in my view (better with the bonnet shut though as had to cut ALOT off to make it fit)

Not sure i like it as much as the mesh grill but this cost be £26 and about an hours cutting and fitting and cutting and fitting til it looked ok. And then i stuck my mesh grill on ebay and it sold in under half an hour for £125, so all in all I am happy with the result.

Car needs a damn good wash and polish too, will sort it after i move at end of the month though.

Do you know of a decent Suzuki forum with meets etc? I got a Swift Sport in February but can't really find many busy forums. I'm also a member of BriSkoda and attend their monthly South Central meet still after having a (lot of trouble with a) MK2 Fabia vRS. Great meet and people but nothing much out there for Suzuki it seems. Less popular brand I guess. Love the Ignis by the way!

Not really tbh.. I am member of SSOC on facebook, they have a forum too - which looks all pretty etc but not really ever used it so couldn't say how busy (or not) it is.

http://ssoc.co.uk/forums/forum.php?

SSOC do go to shows and have stands and stuff though, i seen them advertising stand tickets and things for Japfest and other jap shows.

I use an Ignis Sport specific facebook group mostly for the Ignis, which again has its own forum but the forum is very quiet indeed. And not many Swift owners on teh group or forum other than those who had an Ignis and moved onto a Swift.

But yes the Suzuki crowd seems to be pretty small, from my experience there is a good friendly core of people though - must admit i seem to have found a few mates via the facebook groups and tend to talk with them directly and not really interact much on the group pages - far to many idiots on facebook.

well all moved into my new house - which has a garage, which is carpeted. And have access to water outside :D :woot: So bought a load more car cleaning stuff (not that i didn't have loads already) and a machine polisher and jetwash, and again :woot:

So the Ignis was looking really faded again and like it had been parked under a tree on a farm for 6 months (mainly because it has). So cleaned the inside out y'day and spent today giving it a proper going over on the outside. And I can report that its all nice and red and shiny again - and that all the young lads in the street think its awesome lol

I did the following:

-covered whole car with the jetwash using the soap suction pipe using mix of hot water and turtlewax shampoo (i would use snowfoam but not got a lance for that atm, threw old one away last time i moved, must buy a new one actually).

-jetwashed down thoroughly including door jambs and round the edge of boot etc

-hand washed with turtlewax shampoo and microfibre sponge

-jetwashed again

-clayed using meguiars clay and autoglym rapid detailer as lube, wiped down with microfibre cloth

-megiuars ultimate compound using machine polisher, this stuff is pretty abrasive. I would not be surprised if you ended up with loads of swirls if you did this by hand - but by same token you need to be careful using the machine polisher with this stuff, its cuts way faster than say tcut.

-buffed on with fresh microfibre

-then 2 coats of autogylm SRP, did this just by hand as it goes on and off so easily there was no need for the polisher.

-then done the tyres and plastics but i forget what the stuff i use is.

I normally would then stick a layer or 2 of autogylm extra gloss protection on top but i was running out of light, prob do that tomorrow. I still need to properly clean the windows inside and out as well. There would also generally be a proper wheel clean in a full clean like this but the wheels aren't in great condition and don't look much better if you spend ages cleaning them. Might get them redone at some point.

Everyone keeps saying how nice a car it is now its all shiny. One of the neighbours has a few a young boys who think the Ignis is immense - getting well excited about 'the rally car that parks next to mums car' hahaha. So I'm taking that as a win lol.

What happened with the 3 sets of wheels you had the 2 cars? I presume the black alloys went with the silver one (they looked better than on the red one...), so did you keep the silver alloys for the red car?

Did you swap the silver Ignis with Bushboy for the Brava?

yep Silver Ignis was swapped with Bushboy, he now drives that and yes that has the black Cades on it - he has fitted a nice new bonnet without holes from the pins, changed the mesh in the grill to fatter plastic stuff to match the lower bumper mesh better. He is looking after it anyway. He is handy with a camera so there has been some really cool photos of it.

The white wheels that used to be on the silver one I sold - I was moving house and really needed to get rid of some stuff and the wheels were surplus to requirements. I wasn't hugely keen on them anyway and I have put the factory wheels back on the Suzuki now. And replaced the grill too, mainly because Amy wants a nice condition factory spec car as her first car (she is still learning, had a while not driving cause she didn't get on with her old instructor - took a while to find a nice chap she likes, back doing regular lessons now though).

So car is as it left the factory now (except the grill would have been red not black) and thats the way it will stay. Just keep it clean, shiny and maintained - servicing is due soon actually, not done that many miles in it but its been about a year i think so will do some stuff soon.

Well being that I have only ever seen one other Iggy Sport when driving around since i got mine - yesterday I found many of them at once..!

And most of the cars with stock wheels made mine look all discoloured and horrible... :( really must get the wheels refurb'd!

I can also report that you can get an engine crane in an Ignis no problem, I actually took seat out before I left to be sure it would fit but it would have gone in easy anyway - only hard thing was getting it back out on my own at home.

so yeah, i never got round to fitting them compo's.. Still have them but might have bought more wheels - cause you know, can't have too many wheels right?

And yes yes, before someone says it - it needs more lows now badly, i know i know, I'm on it. And I'm sure many people will hate them but thats kinda half the point of them

meh, car is a shocker atm, properly needs cleaning. But then all 3 do but i never seem to have the time atm. I need to get 2 of the tyres wapped and i need some spigot rings for them. Really, cars gonna get shoved back in the garage later and left there for a while as driving the panda most of the time while its all sunny and if not that then taking amy out in the 500 for practice.

Prob just gonna get some lowering springs for this, don't think it warrants huge spend on coilovers really.

So just was reading this back, totally didn't write that back in spring it had new oil and filter and air filter - not that interesting i know just for my reference, was april i think.

My tyres on the standard wheels, well fronts, worn out now so rather than sticking new tyres on them i got new tyres on the borbets. I stuck a slightly different size on them, 195/50/15. A little bit of stretch but nothing silly and now they are on the car..

on the car..

I now have slight front and rear poke..

And these were really badly painted previously, the 2 on this side lost all that red paint just with jetwash. I still not decided how I'm gonna paint them yet. Also as you can see the car is all a bit faded again - I'm a bit meh about it now, i can't just keep cutting it back for obvious reasons so atm I am just leaving it, maybe it will get painted or wrapped or something in the future but at the mo I have better stuff to spend my money on  Like lowering, i will do that in the next month or two I promise!!
20160807_155448.jpg

Oh and when i do get round to painting the wheels I have bought some flat caps for them..
As they are atm

with a flat cap

And finally, a birthday pressie from Eklipze3k, now I have a Bozo Ring, +1000 scene points. Sadly -750 scene points for it not touching the floor, another reason to get lowering it ;)
