Blu's Suzuki Ignis Sport

Introduction

So been toying with getting one for a while but today i actually bit the bullet and bought one...

2004 Suzuki Ignis Sport - Its just clocked past 44k miles so not bad mileage for a 10 year old car. For them that don't know it is a 1.5vvti engine - seems a very good engine, pulls from very low down but also very revvy. It weighs in at under a tonne. Fantastic handling little thing too, really holds on through the corners, i'm impressed! Its pretty much a japanese panda 100hp except a little lighter and a litter faster out of the box. Still feels like a small car even after driving a cinq daily although i do feel like i'm sat REALLY high up!

Not much done to it, just has a SuzukiSport grill, which are supposedly pretty rare and desirable amongst suzuki people - certainly improves the look of the car no end (AC rad has been painted black so its not as noticeable through the grill too).

And it has some aftermarket alloys, not sure on the brand i didn't check with decent tyres (Toyo T1-Rs) - but i got the oem wheels with good tyres too - might keep them as winter wheels.

Oh and square plates are not standard either.

Anyhow, some pics......

The mk1 CRX is the lads new car, he bought it yesterday to replace the Iggy. Only 6 of them mk1 CRX in the UK according to howmanyleft, was a very cool car indeed. nearly all fibreglass and only weighs a bit more than a cinquecento except it has almost triple the power lol.

All in all I am most pleased - it is like a fiat though and the red is a bit flat - i shall machine polish it soon and hopefully it will come up really nice.

Massive thank you to Simon a.k.a buttflap212 for the lift and good to see you again fella ;)

Comments welcome.
Well been quite busy messing with the suzuki of late, trying to get through all the stuff i've been putting off because other things have taken precedent.

So first off was changing the clutch. I've not had issues with it slipping or anything but it got so heavy I been fearing the clutch cable would snap - so the assumption was the pressure plate was worn, which was confirmed when it came out.
Not the worst I've seen by a long shot but pretty deep groove in the fingers.

Disc itself wasnt that bad unsurprisingly but plenty worn compared a new one.

This was a massive job cause some idiot fitted loads of bracing to his car  so i had to remove the arb to get the underbracing off. And omg getting all that stuff back on is a nightmare in itself. But took the opportunity to fit my uprated Cusco ARB at the same time

I fitted a new clutch cable at the same time, and I removed the old bushes from the shifter cables and replaced with some solid brass ones a friend made, no pics of this but its hardly exciting stuff. But the clutch is so light now, actually going to take me a while to get used to it as its night and day different, keep nearly stamping a hole in the floor when i change gear cause i'm so used to it being really really heavy lol, and the brass bushes have really slickened up how nice the gear change feels too (y)

And then today I've fitted my adjustable panhard bar - just set to same length as the standard bar for now. The car is due a trip to get the tracking done at some point soon so I'll get them to make sure its perfectly centred when I do that.

And lastly, new exhaust. I love my old exhaust however, its only a backbox and the car has always had the stock mid-pipe and crucially my Whiteline rear ARB kit clamps to the bottom of the axle and the lovely SuzukiSport exhaust I've had on the car is an under axle one and there just isn't space for an ARB between it and the axle. A fellow ignis owner I know recently rolled his car on a track-day at Knockhill and kindly sold me his exhaust which is a custom stainless cat back system made by his local Longlife. I have been super worried about it not clearing my mid-brace but i needn't have worried, it is really well tucked up and actually has more clearance from the brace than the old exhaust (y)

here's a little video of the new exhaust, and yes, I let the car warm up to operating temp before i revved it so high ;)

And I think that is everything I've done to it recently. Next job, serious deep clean and machine polish - probably do the headlights too and ceramic coat them again.. And i have new stickers.....

It seems like this project has been keeping you busy for years now. Soon your hard work will pay off.

Further stuff, cars needed a deep deep clean for a while. I've started but not finished, was so bad couldn't finish it in a day.

As always I started with some snow, gotta take a pic, it's rules lol

After that a 2 bucket wash, then rinsed, then fallout remover, another wash and rinse, then clay bar. Then another wash and rinse, then I went round with tar remover and then, yes you guessed correctly, and wash and rinse.

I started with my DA polisher after that and managed to do the bonnet and all one side before it got too dark to continue.
Few pics showing the difference, will try finish up today.

I'm slowly getting through the to do list on this car, plenty of stuff still to do though

So took the Ignis to a dyno day held by Wornout Racing at Hartwell Autosport Developments on Sunday.

The Iggy did 3 pulls, one 118hp and two 120hp, i'm very happy with that result tbh.

Heres a few pics from the day, there is more here - https://www.fiatforum.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=4277

The observant may also notice it has new numberplates, the old ones were getting a bit nasty - not particularly happy with the quality of these either but they are nicer than what was on there for now.

Love the stance and the wheels, if it was mine I'd be temped to get the centres (I.e. not the rim) in a bronze or gun metal as they disappear a bit in black.

Otherwise looks good (y)

these wheels do come in a range of colours with matching lip or polished lip.. I went for all satin black but each to their own obviously. Now these tyres are getting old and quite worn the other wheels will be going back on soon anyway (the sparco assetto gara ones, theres probably a pic further back in the thread as i did test fit them a while back) - will probably try these ones on the wifes new car when it arrives though, see if they suit it or not - if not will probably sell them tbh.

MOT time again, actually ran out couple of weeks ago but been too busy to get it done. Passed with no advisories of course. Happy to report it's still super tidy and clean underneath still.

And yes, the sunstrip is gone, it's not held up well to the frost and I pulled it off this morning, now its making my garage door pretty instead lol.. There's a new different one ready but think I'll wait for warmer weather first.

As always, still got lots to go on and little to no time to get it done lol.

well I may have made I highly expensive irresponsible purchase... I give you genuine volk te37 in 14x6j. Tyres have been ordered, possibly should have test fit them before buying tyres but meh lol.
Cannot fathom that wheels, made of actual metal, can be this light! Pretty sure the tyres will weigh more than the wheels lol
