Toyota GT86 :D

Introduction

Went with the other half to Toyota today because he was interested in the new GT86, anyway he ended up placing an order for one.
Now the wait begins, the salesmen haven't even seen one yet!!

Anyway have any opinions? Bad or good? (y)
I don't want to be a killjoy but I thought that Toyota deliberately chose to fit narrow tyres so drivers could enjoy an "involving drive" at safe speeds ie a bit of oversteer at speeds within the legal limit. Isn't changing the tyres and suspension kind of missing the whole point of the car?

My guess is that they looked at the Miata (where a conscious decision not to increase grip was taken) and looked at the MR2 Mk1 and 2 (the Mk2 seems to have scared a lot of Americans), so decided to put the engine in the wrong place and make sure it didn't have particularly high limits.

Still, I can't see them being upset if folk bolt fatter wheels on and fit some kind of forced induction. That way they can appeal to a bigger market and take sales from Miata and BMW without taking any blame.

Can't edit my post. but MR2 actually signified something like Mid (engined) Runabout 2(seater). Or if you say it as the French do, something rude.

So, the GT-86 doesn't qualify as a replacement.

Rumour has it that the new ones will have the chassis stiffened (largely) by the simple expedient of using larger bolts on various bits of the structure.

The GT86 has more in common with the Toyota AE86 Trueno/Levin that it's name references. This was a small reasonably low powered rear drive coupe in the 80s. It was produced along side the mk1 mr2 and also a Corolla Gti as well. For a period Toyota produced an front engined front drive car, a front engined rear drive car and the mid engined rear drive car all powered by the same 4ag engine

It's grandad is somewhat of drift legend...
