Mals small, economical Alfa Romeo...

Introduction

Eh yes, about that title... :p

I think I've lost my marbles at this stage :spin:

Earlier today I got this :D
Image1667.jpg

Its a work of art :D

However... :(
Image1668.jpg

Looks like the previous owner grazed a skip :bang:

All part of the fun of restoring this car (y)

The interior is just something else :worship:
Image1669.jpg

It needs a damned good clean!

This piece of equipment is keeping me busy (y)
Image1673.jpg

First job:
Image1674.jpg

Thats better (y)

Theres so many quirks about this car, like how to open the boot for example...
Image1675.jpg

In the glove box :ROFLMAO:

I've saved the best 2 for last

Having these calipers means one thing:
Image1672.jpg

Music under the bonnet :worship::worship::worship:
Image16711.jpg

I'm absolutely delighted, it's a car I've always wanted :D

Now, where am I going to park this...!
A bad leg cramp meant I couldn't do any heavy work... :(

So I decided to fix some niggles :)

Starting with window switches...
Image1791.jpg

They're the wrong ones to begin with... :bang:

Nonetheless, must continue.... Heres my wonkey switch
Image1792.jpg

To remove, remove the rubber and reveal the 2 screws
Image1793.jpg

Out she pops
Image1794.jpg

To the van :) this needs removing...
Image1795.jpg

To reveal the board
Image1796.jpg

See the problem?
Image1797.jpg

Wasn't too difficult to remove
Image1798.jpg

Comparing the new with the old...
Image1799.jpg

Fitted!
Image1800.jpg

Somewhat cleaned!
Image1801.jpg

Refitted!!! (y)
Image1802.jpg

Next on the agenda...
Image1803.jpg

Image1807.jpg

That's for another day.... Keep watching ;)

Back to the Alfa (y)

I don't think the brake callipers were ever cleaned
Image19311.jpg

Or the links...
Image1932.jpg

So out with the wire brush...
Image1933.jpg

And it looks much better (y)
Image1934.jpg

To the front!
Image1935.jpg

As the wheels were stuck on, out with the copper grease...

Anyways, you can see where the pressure washer cleaned a bit of it before
Image1937.jpg

Better :) (don't want to lose the writing!)
Image1938.jpg

Seems my offside driveshaft was off before...
Image1936.jpg

Lastly, positioning the badge the right way in the wheels :spin:
Image1939.jpg

Engine out for the crack someday, stay tuned... ;)

Wowza, always had a really soft spot for these lovely big Alfa barges ever since I saw a Rosso Red V6 Lusso when they first came out. The poor thing has had a very hard and unloved life by the looks of it :( I'm sure she'll respond to lots of TLC and you'll have a gorgeous car on your hands. That chrome tubed V6 is a symphony of Italian brawn...

Keep up the excellent work and it'll be interesting to see how you get on!

another thing i wanna mention is, your 166 has everything id dream of to upgrade on my alfa, such as the 4 pot brakes, projector headlight unit, the v6 air intake, im sure theres many more parts ;), id love a donor car like this so i could take things off it and look at upgrading the 156 somehow :)

Nice to hear of gradual improvements and attention on this... but just think, if put your efforts and expertise in mechaniching to doing paying repair jobs for people instead of Peugeot experiments, you could put lots of petrol into this lovely beast and enjoy a nice V6 howl instead of a diesel clatter...

I love the sleeper effect of my rattly diesel Pug ;) and how suddenly the turbo cuts in :worship:

However, fear not, I'm deciding on a next daily hack. Won't be for a while as I need my 406 for long distance driving....

Have this 156, I'll make a thread on it asap. Rebuilding it to my specs

Wow, you mean the car is taxed, tested and insured, and running round legit on Irish roads! :D

Or did you make this assessment by driving round the field? ;)

Looks proper gorgeous now, a real rock-star ride... :slayer:

Cheers dude! :D so much win with those wheels, should never have had those awful pepperpots....!

At 1080 a year to tax it'll be along time before it sees our crappy roads :p private roads ftw (y)

Next on the list is binning that awful t-spark box, I hate it!!! :bang:
