Meet Toshimichi

Introduction

Meet Toshimichi - Pajero Mini

Toshimichi - a 2002 Mitsubishi Pajero Mini
660cc 4-cyl Turbo, auto :slayer:

Built on the same platform as the Mitsubishi Minica to comply with Japans strict 'Kei' car regulations, those of you who play Gran Turismo will no doubt have seen the Keis featured heavily in the early stages, and will have probably driven an Alto Works, Kei Works or even a Minica.

To get an idea of size, check these pictures out:

Mostly, I could get it up to speed as long as I didn't try and give it too much of a boot. I was starting to think it was a misfire but it doesn't do it under all the time, so I'm leaning towards some form of 'on boost' issue as it seems restricted to periods of increased load (ie. lead footed acceleration or trying to get up a steep hill ... which was fun on the way to work.). On the other hand - I figured out the stereo issue :D What I thought was the earth turned out to be a live from the lighting circuit. There was no earth wire on the loom, so I can only assume the OE HU was earthed via it's cage, I've done the same with the BOSS one and it works great now :)

Stuck some injector cleaner through the last tank, down to 1/4 tank now and already covered further than I have on any previous tank so hoping it was just a gummed injector causing the poor MPG. Going to check out the lambdas as well, just in case they're a bit filthy.
Was showing Russ126 around it the other day and couldn't help thinking that a 1.3 MultiJet would fit quite nicely in the engine bay
Looking at the tyres they seem to be nearing the end of their useful life so been considering getting some Compomotive PDs - 16x7 would be quite tasty I think - but it's money I don't have at the moment.

Reminded by another thread that I haven't updated this for a while, though not much to report. Was an absolute workhorse during the move-out process, carrying huge loads, ferrying back and forth without issue. He's now SORN since the Sei is back up and running, found I can get 10w30 from Halfords (labelled as motorbike oil but I guess that's expected from a little engine!), need to see if they have the right sized oil filter. I'm planning to get it taxed again for Sept as there is a big Kei meet to get to so in the mean time it's serving me quite nicely as a shed for storing all my tools :D
Only annoying thing now is that it still stinks of gearbox oil after a leak in the boot, which has saturated the chipboard 'floor' so short of fabricating a new one that's not going anywhere anytime soon :(

A quick post partly to appease my own terrible memory - oil filter is HOF285 - and partly to exclaim at how well it handled the drive up here, pretty much faultless! Had a couple of little moments on the A9 where it struggled a bit to get up the hills, and the funny coughing/hesitating thing seems to be back with a vengeance when it's warm, as long as I accelerate slowly it's OK so wondering if the clutch may be slipping. Anyway, just given it an oil change and she seems quite happy with 10w40 so that makes me happy as it's the same as the Sei :D
Did a little off-roading too, on some dirt tracks, was pretty good despite the latest discovery - it's not 4WD, it's RWD :( It wasn't obvious until I took off the sump guard but there is no front driveshaft/s at all, still love the little beast but really disappointed at that :(
