Munkul's shonky Nissan..

Introduction

Thought I'd put a thread up of what I'm (reluctantly) rolling in now :)

I fell in love with drifting and I wanted a proper classy car like a PS13 or an rx-7, but common sense told me that if i got a super-cool car, I would be gutted if I stuffed it!

So one night last september I saw this on ebay, took a chance, and got it transported all the way up from southampton (y)

Now I have done quite a lot of work to it since then, and done a couple of drift days in it, its absolutely ace :)

Now that the punto is getting a rebuilt engine, I have to use it as a daily... its both good and bad... fast, but FAR from refined!!! Current spec to come.

Got sensible, and bought mustang wheels, cos I knew it would be boss if I pulled em off!

Re: Munkul's shonky Nissan

i swear you out to just make me ultimately jealous

a turbo punto is enough but this beast aswell :(

whats it like to pull a drift?

ill just live my fantasy on forza :p

Re: Munkul's shonky Nissan

it feels awesome :p

I dont smoke or drink (much), I havent spent half on this as Ive spent on the punto altogether, and I do all my own work on it, so there isnt that much money in this as you think. Some of the parts are s/h which helps a lot.

I think £5k altogether will finish this car off for me performance wise - not a lot for a properly put together track/drift car with 300bhp! But if i keep my job at the end of the summer, its getting some bodywork and a respray :)

@ m20b25: a "super cool" car would be something a bit classier looking, less 90's gay, more 80's mean. An earlier silvia PS13 (a car I WILL own some day) like this:

Or an rx-7 FC (old shape) like this:

Or even a newer s14a (same as mine but with the sharper looking headlights)

So far though, what I've spent on this would only JUST buy a nice slightly tuned example of any of the above cars... and this car has a mint shell, whereas most rx-7s and 14's are rotten :( So this is a keeper for now.

BUT... I'm liking the s14 early shape more and more... I was gonna change it to 14a front but the "zenki" front flows much better with the overall shape of the car. It can be made to look really cool with the right bodykit and wheels:

Re: Munkul's shonky Nissan

Sweeet! Most of the S14s over here are white and crash repaired... My only experience of drifting is in my luxobarges and while on hols I got a go in an A31 Cefiro, much fun in a car park :p

Some madmen over here have EVOs and WRXs with the front driveshafts disconnected, must be something else to get those sideways :p

Ever consider one of these for the track?

Re: Munkul's shonky Nissan

what is it? A JZX100? I'm not really "with" the toyota/lexus saloons  I love em though, cant beat big 4 door barges with massive engines in as standard!

Where are you from anyways?

Re: Munkul's shonky Nissan

Its a JZX100, ironically I've only seen them as taxis over here, a hideous waste  theres alot more JZX90 Chasers here, I quite like the look of them but still think these are much better looking :D

I'm from Ireland, approx 30 miles from Dublin, I regularly see the locals going tail happy on every crossroads and car park in the countryside, tend to pick up a thing or 2 from them, its our 2nd nationwide passtime at this stage :p

I'm more into Mercs and BMWs (my username is the engine code for my car :p) but someday hope to delve into the drifting world with an old jap luxobarge :D

Re: Munkul's shonky Nissan

thought it was a bimmer engine code :D

I swear the Irish are born sideways... they always do really well for themselves at a european and even worldwide level! The last Allstars event we watched (last monday at teesside) the Irish were hogging all 3 places on the podium :p

Re: Munkul's shonky Nissan

Ive had it since I was 16, it needs restoring. Going sideways in an auto is very difficult compared to a manual... Have most of the bits to put her right, just need a fuel pump and time to put it all right :) I used to have an M50 manual 520i, I kept at it till the tyres were showing wire :D

I cant understand it either and ive seen it going on for years! A few years ago there was a young chap from Tipperary in an S14 240SX, only 15 and was competing in a european tournament  I must find out who it was and put the link here :)

Re: Munkul's shonky Nissan

And got a video of him in action :p shame he came to a sticky end in bishopscourt...

http://forums.forzamotorsport.net/forums/thread/3990902.aspx

Still trying to find out who that was competing in the euro drift tournament... I think its because we start driving young, I learned to drive by myself when I was 12 for example... When did those guys start?!

Re: Munkul's shonky Nissan

Personally, I like the look of the S13 or the S15 better...I was lucky enough to get to drive my little brothers S13 around as my daily for about 2 months :D

Also, you will need to rehost your images on the forum, just like in the Fiat Members Motors threads. Drop me a PM with the links and I'll update it for you (y)

Re: Munkul's shonky Nissan

looks tidy that.

its good to see im following in the footsteps of a fiatforum hero, jumping from fiat to a sillyboy-driftypoos style car.
(im buying a volvo 340 with welded diff tomorrow) :D

ive always liked the original 80s supra, i think they look eeeeevil :D

absolutely fine... apart from when parking. It makes some horrible noises.

My mate had a 340 though, and when he welded the diff he got quite a bit of understeer, untill he learned to compensate. I think it all comes down to suspension setup and geometry as well - im running a tried and proven camber/caster/toe setup for s14's, and I dont even get the slightest bit of understeer. Actually, the welder HELPS in corners - when you accelerate, it pushes the car round slightly without losing grip or stability (y)

Last night... fitted a MBC to the s14, something i should have done ages ago. Boosts and holds 15psi from 2.8k right through the rev range, and has MASSES of torque now!

Today: Straightliners!!!! (aka, "race wars, in the desert")

£35 to sign on for the day, did 30 runs down the strip, spent about £40 worth of 98ron, had 1 breakdown and 1 change of tyres.

Arrived at 10:30 and was one of the first on the strip. After 2 runs, the stock dump valve (which was blocked off) decided to fire out the blanking bung and play silly buggers dumping all boost - luckily I only live a few miles away, so went home and made another bung, and was back on the strip within half an hour :)

Wheelspin was the worst thing... crappy old airfield tarmac. I turned the rear dampening to softest and had around 20psi in the tyres, but I was still getting crap 60ft times in spite of doing massive burnouts on the starting line!

put in my fastest run after 6 runs and just got slower after that... changed tyres at around 1-ish and then it started raining, so bang went any hope of getting into the 13's :( so took the **** after that, did lots of 2nd and 3rd gear wheelspinning and dorifto at the end of the track... so a good time was had :)

Fastest ET: 14.02 sec @ 97mph
Highest terminal speed: 104mph
Quickest 60ft time: 2.323 sec

All in all had a good day, had some very good races with people - monaros, gt-fours, astra GSIs, just to mention a few!
