I bought a Ford Fiesta 2004, 3dr in Colorado Red three weeks ago.

Last weekend it started to make a 'metal-on-metal' rattle and I have no idea what it could be.

Any thoughts?

It sounds like its coming from the gearbox, although the gears run smoothly. It could be from the rear, or the wheels, or the suspension.:(

I should have taken it today, but I didn't. I have a months' warranty on the car. I can't take it next weekend as I'm going away for a week. I could take it on friday, but I can't leave it there.

You might find a better (more accurate) response on a ford forum? I think we only have one or two fiesta owners here.

I would advise getting is sorted ASAP (under the month warranty) book a courtesy car as it could be off the road for a few days.

I notice there are a few ford forum's. I don't know which one to choose! Which is the best???

I've joined fordownersclub forum.

Dave

You mention it could be the brake pads.

Shouldn't I feel anything when I brake? They feel ok to me.

I can hear the noise when I set off, and I can hear it even more when I drive over a rough road and those yellow speed bumps.

Just before I heard the noise when it first started, I was driving on a single track road. There was a van coming towards me, flashed his lights and I carried on, I should have stopped where I was because there was hardly any room to pass him. I then drove to about 40-45mph and the noise started.

When the noise first started, it was VERY loud, I could hear it over my music. I stopped to look underneath the car to see if there was anything hanging down, but there wasn't anything....I then carried on driving home slowly, staying at 30mph.....being nervous about breaking down.

Think I'll have to wait until I come back from my weeks holiday til I do anything about it.

could very well be a stone or debris in the caliper.
or it could be the exhaust rattling, heat shields make loads of noise.
does the car make a noise when sat at idle, if you blip the acelerator..?
If only when moving then i'd say suspension/brake related

Using logic.. focus your attention on the side of the car that went off the road.
it started after so we can assume it either shook smething lose, something was banged or debris got in. ps check wheel bolts.

Nope it doesn't.

(green letting) What do you mean??

My parents had something similar on their mk2b Punto, I took a little look around and found that the pressure plate in one of the callipers had gone missing and the calliper was knocking about when moving/going over bumps etc.

Take the front wheels off and give both callipers a good jiggle.
